Would like to start reading and writing ecu's, what would be best setup for laptop, and which soft for edditing calculating or mapping the dumps?

I am also new at this.
At the moment I have got galletto 1260.
I am waiting for eeprom programmer GQ-4x.
At the moment i am just doing a lot of reading on the net.

Mapping should be done on a rolling road or an engine test bench, with the help of a lot of equipment.
Without those aids you cannot proof the changes you make are save or even if they work at all (produce less bhp in stead of more).

just by a tool like the cmd. Its very user frendly.

There are more good tools on the market.

i only use cmd, galletto and kwp2000+


Most importent is to use good tuning files!!!
