I am debating on going over to sky, the only thing that puts me off is the broadband package, the 2 gb basic is limited, and it is either ?5 or ?10 extra rather than vms unlimited , but you get a better phone package.and more tv channels with sky
I have a friend that rings the once or twice a year and he gets all sorts of bargains,but I am a bit like you keep thinking they'll tell me to get lost, but the other half says he is going to have a go and see, if not we have sky to fall back on.

I have just signed up for vonage and am in the process of transferring my virgin media number to vonage. I will keep the broadband but loose the telephone line rental and call package. It has the added bonus that I can take my number anywhere in the world as long as there is broadband. My costs become ?5.99 a month instead of the ?20 that Virmin media charge me for the same facilities.

no virgin will phone you back at a later date and offer you a deal for definate

you need to give them 30 days notice regardless and then they will phone you up sometime in between

if they do not phone you ( it wont happen) you can ring them on day 29 and say you have changed your mind

you have nothing to lose basically

Business is business as they say gilbert, and recession or not, no company however big or small are going to tell you where to go. Just remember, vermin are competeing with sly and not with you,so put your cards on the table with them and see who blinks first. Best of luck. I`m about to tell 3 broadband where to stick their dongle in favour of eircom or bt/02 and I don`t blink easily.

I have posted a reply to this kind of thread before;all you need to do is ring 150 from your VM landline and go through the automated service until you get the "thinking of leaving?" message-get through to this section and tell them you're off to Sky unless they can do a deal for you and they are normally keen to help unlike Sky.Be firm but not too bolshy and it always helps to have an idea what you want before phoning.As an example I was one of the lucky ones to get the half price Sky offer but have kept all my VM products-phone,tv and broadband.My daughter wanted a V+ box which should have been ?75-got in touch with them and only paid ?49.If you don't ask you don't get and I have never been refused a deal when contacting them.They need you more than you need them in the present climate and the intro of N3.:ciao:

smallest for all. m tv m phone L broadband

you pay ?35 for that..??

I only pay ?10 more a month for a V+HD box running XL TV, M Phone & L BB..

If you can afford that then maybe its worth upgrading...

When i move i'll be asking for XL BB at the same price i'm paying now..

Your package to new customers costs ?11.99 (L Broadband, M TV with no +service, M Phone)..

I'd be on the phone now cancelling.. Even if you go Terrestrial Digital Freeview for a month then go back to VM as a 'new' customer..

I've never heard of this money to leave? Are you tied into a 12-month contract or something? If not I would send them a letter (recorded) informing them that you wish wish to cancel your contract and are giving them their required 30 days notice. See what reply you get. Then cancel your direct debit and if they give you any grief you can contact Ofcom with your proof of having given them notice of cancellation.

It may be that the sales person on the phone is scaring you off with the ?180 cancellation fee so he can get his bonus for having retained a customer. Check your terms and conditions for cancelling the service and a mention of any such cancellation fee. Might be worth mentioning that in your letter too

"J Ending these agreements

These agreements will continue until the end of the minimum period for each service you take. After the end of all relevant minimum periods , for services other than premium television services , either Virgin Media Ltd or you may end these agreements by giving the other 30 days' notice. You must pay any relevant usage charges and line rental up to the end of that 30-day notice period.
Either Virgin Media Entertainment or you may end the agreement for premium television services at any time after the end of the minimum period for premium television services . If you wish to end the agreement for premium television services before the end of the minimum period , you will be charged the monthly charge that you would have paid for the rest of the minimum period for premium television services .
You may also cancel a service other than premium television services during its minimum period by giving us 30 days' notice. If you end this agreement before the end of the minimum period for any of the services (other than in the circumstances outlined in section K or paragraph J5), you must immediately pay (to Virgin Media Payments) the balance of the line rental (if this applies) or the monthly charges (or both) that you would have paid for the rest of the minimum period for each separate service (based on the line rental and monthly charges that you are paying when your agreements end). If you cancel any but not all of your services before the end of their minimum period , you must immediately pay (to Virgin Media Payments) the balance of the line rental (if this applies) or the monthly charges (or both) that you would have paid for the rest of the minimum period for those services (based on the line rental and monthly charges that you are paying when you cancel those services ).
If you choose to cancel these agreements you have for Virgin TV services with Virgin Media Ltd in accordance with these terms and conditions, Virgin Media Entertainment shall be entitled to terminate its agreement with you for premium television services at the same time (whether you have chosen to do so or not).
If:

Virgin Media Ltd, Virgin Media Entertainment and/or Virgin Media Payments increase their respective charges under these agreements ;
Virgin Media Ltd and/or Virgin Media Entertainment make significant changes to the services so the services you are entitled to receive in return for the charges you pay are significantly altered or reduced; or
Virgin Media Ltd, Virgin Media Entertainment and/or Virgin Media Payments make significant changes to the terms and conditions of these agreements (including the other legal stuff ),

you may cancel those services affected without penalty by giving Virgin Media Ltd and/or Virgin Media Entertainment (as applicable) at least 30 days' notice in writing. If you cancel any services in these circumstances, the increased charges will not apply to those services during the 30-day notice period and paragraph J3 will not apply if you cancel before the end of the minimum period . If you do not give such notice of cancellation within 30 days of any increase in charges or changes to the services or this agreement being notified to you or, if later, receipt of your first bill following such increase in charges, Virgin Media, Virgin Media Entertainment (if applicable) and Virgin Media Payments will assume that you have accepted the increase in charges and the changes to the services and these agreements and you will no longer be able to cancel your services under this paragraph.
If Virgin Media Ltd, Virgin Media Entertainment and/or Virgin Media Payments break the terms and conditions of these agreements , you're free to end these agreements .
We and/or Virgin Media Entertainment may end the respective agreement immediately by giving you notice:

if our and/or Virgin Media Entertainment’s authority to operate as a public communications provider is suspended for any reason;
in our and/or Virgin Media Entertainment’s reasonable opinion it is necessary to do so for security, technical or operational reasons.

When these agreements end or you cancel a service , we and/or Virgin Media Entertainment will deactivate (permanently switch off) any relevant equipment we supplied to you to provide the services . You will no longer be able to use the equipment .
If you fail to return or make available for removal any item of the equipment , you may have to pay extra charges for any individual item of equipment , including the replacement cost and reasonable recovery costs. In addition to our other rights, we reserve the right to bring proceedings against you for the return of our equipment .
If these agreements are ended for any reason, or if any of the services are cancelled, Virgin Media Ltd and/or Virgin Media Entertainment and/or Virgin Media Payments will be entitled to keep any money Virgin Media Ltd, Virgin Media Entertainment and/or Virgin Media Payments hold (including deposits and advance payments), and to use that money to pay any obligation or debt you may owe under these agreements. We'll get in touch with you to refund to you any money remaining after these deductions, unless our costs to administer that refund outweigh the actual account balance. If that's the case, we'll donate the account balance to charity. We'll also donate your account balance to charity, whatever the amount, if we have not been able to contact you within six months of the date of termination of these agreements."
