Trying to adjust mileage on extra 2004 Bosch RB4 cluster I'm trying to swap in. Using Tacho Universal with 24C0X board and clip. When trying to adjust I get "Data Not Equal...Adj Clip". I'm putting the exact old value (in KM) and new value (in KM) as adjusted by the tool. What am I doing wrong? Any word of advise would be greatly appreciated. Tom

I was able to get a pin (40245) with the tool conencted to the car. The current mileage in km reads 101,488.. trying to adjust to 126,064. Still unable to change.

Your dump is corrupted. Check file size.
Pin of such dashes has 4 digits with first "0". Yours login is wrong. Get it from ECU.
Upload attached eeprom file (it's exactly the same) and adapt dash and keys. Then correct mileage.

Will not work :) If you write this dump to dash you will get DEF and pin will be also wrong.

This is crypto dash

This file i got through OBDII from the same vehicle using original VAG K+Can commander. After writing new eeprom disregard "def" message and disconnect negative wire from main battery for a minute. Then proceed with dash adaption like described in thread http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f115/audi-a4-dash-dump-102724/
What does it mean "pin will be also wrong" ? This dump has fixed pin 00212.
I know that RB4 crypted and mask in CPU.
Let owner to try. He, always, can put back his corrupted file.

Thanks all for great help. Will try and update. How can one get the bin file from Tacho Universal to computer? Tried via serial interface and Sync option (Tacho Universal) then Hyper Terminal via COM1, but can't connect any get anything. There aren't any instructions how to sync.

You need tachodump software to communicate with tacho universal. Connect your box to a null modem cable, press sync on box and start tachodump, press options set com port, then connect.

Thanks Alex. Is there a way you can modify your original file attached above for 78,3xx miles (not sure how that would tranlate to exact km coded in) so that I can flash to eeprom and not modify further? I'd greatly appreciate.

Sorry. It's possibly by OBD only.

It appears that the adjustment won't be possible via Tacho 2008 Universal. Unable to read/write the crypted EEPROM through the tool and 24C0x interface. Ordered VAG K+Can commander tool to perform via OBD2. Thanks all for help.

Sorry what's the problem with the dump? It's perfect, cluster is RB4, made 11-09-03 D37 AUZ6Z0C0290585
Mileage about 100000 km (crypto).

Dr Peter,

I need the PIN from the cluster to change mileage with VAG Tacho 2.5. I was able to retrieve pin with Tach Universal, but not sure if thats correct: 9D35 - 40245 (correct? Can you confirm?) is what I got for the PIN. When I enter the PIN under Pass2 for VAG Tacho it takes, but when adjusting mileage it states: unable to calculate kilometers and fails. So not sure if it fails because of the wrong PIN or something else.

Also...i was going to adjust the original dump file mileage to 126064km and rewrite eprom, but can't even do that with VagTacho and above PIN. I was also trying to write EPROM (also with VAG Tacho) with the file Alex posted, but it fails to write stating not allowed or something similar. Which part of data from the dump is responsible for the mileage?

Thanks for the doc. I already tried and was unable to read the crypted EPROM with Tacho Universal... both clip and solder.. Someone else on here had the same problem with Tacho Univeral and 24C08 programmer board.. even borrowed someone elses 24c0x board and kept failing.

Now working with Vag Tacho which is how I was able to ready the EPROM thats attached in my first post...

I see, also check out magic dash. Many people say it is a good tool and cheap too magicdash.com (http://www.magicdash.com/).

You can not change mileage RB4 crypto cluster with vagtacho 2.5 only with vagtacho 3.0-up. Your dump in first post is ok so you have a good backup here some instuctions to adjust mileage with diga. In picture you see your mileage.
Firstly you take a note of the exact miles very important. Then remove keys from the ignition. To remove the cluster you remove the suround going around the steering colum. You will then find 2 torx size 20 when you remove these the dash just pulls foward. For programing the cluster there is a 24c08 eeprom. There is a sw13 pic for this make sure you clip the osc. If you are not sure about your soldering then you can also strip this dash down the needles must be removed by twisting them anti-clockwise. Programing this dashboard is slightly diffrent from other dashboards. When you read the eeprom it will read 000000 miles this is ok. You must go to show and make sure there is loads of data and press "B" to verify. Then save the data. when you go to adjust kms it will ask you for the new value you must type this in kms then it will ask for the old value this must be the exact kms which was on the car. The box will then tell you the miles which it is going to give you this could be up to 4000kms out.

Thanks drpeter. I did all of the above several times in the past and when I go to "show" it displays no data...just rows of 0000, which apparently means that it failed to read the data. This was done with both, soldering as shown above and clip.

From adress 60 till BF rows are 00000 in this dump 24C08 maybe you didn't scrolled down, because your dump is fine. I really don't understand your problem. Or did you read the 24C08 dump with another programmer?

The dump was pulled with Vag Tacho 2.5, not Diga (Tacho Universal). I was not able to pull anything from the tool/24c08 board/cable. I went to Vag Tacho and was able to log in to pull the dump, but not able to change mileage. Sorry about the confusion and thanks for your help and patience.

Are you able to pull the PIN from the initial dump?

No login pIN found, but if you want I can edit the mileage for you and you can write the new dump with vagtacho. Then your problem is solved, I can only edit manually +/1500km
