hello, i have recently bought a bmw 318 tds (1995) was wondering if anyone knew if my clone ELM327 can be used to read ecu?

No, never.
This car does NOT support any of the protocols that the ELM-interface uses. It doens't even have the 16-pin connector.
You need something specific for BMW, like Carsoft.

Thanks, I was thinking that. It has the 20 pin plug under the bonnet. Will the VISA interface (clone) off ebay work on this year of bm? (95)

Yes, it should work.
You can also try BMW Carsoft, INPA...
