I have a DM500C so am happy with the cable side.

I want to mess around with the satellite side so about to purchase a DM600S PVR

I currently have Sky with the quad LNB - 2 outputs to my Sky+ box, can I connect a coax from one of the spare LNB and connect it up to the 600S - I know I wont be getting any Sky channels, but what other satellite are in the same footprint (28.2E) - what FTA channels will I pick up and also what other channels that are not FTA can I get (obvisouly with the correct configuration)

you can connect 1 of the coax to ur new receiver but only for channels on 28.2e unless you wanna slightly change the direction of the dish to pick up hotbird or astra1. these are receivable with a minidish in the u.k.
