I'm reading that this method using the bypass cable regardless of the tool will unsync and brick the smt once the battery in the prox goes dead

Hi
Where did you read that?

From a person who sells the codes.

It'll be garbage, if Toyota were bricking things for aftermarket tool use they'd do it at the time of programming, not some nebulous time in the future when a battery goes flat.

Makes sense

That doesn't make sense. Either it kills it right then and there or not. Regardless, the prox uses non volatile memory.

This is what the code guy is saying, don't know what to believe
"Nice when your key battery dies you need to replace the smt. Bro it's nothing new code cannibal was the first and all the other tools do it just code cannibal back out because of how many smt they ruined. Btw this procedure is listed in the tech bulletin as a reason to replace smt and ECU. It's around 5k for everything"

( unsync and brick the smt once the battery in the proxy goes dead ) what if it was a add and the proxy never came to be used. How will a dead proxy or a un used proxy that has been registered, create a bomb to the smart ecu.. ??
they are only read the dump by a command via pins no need to attach to the processor.

There is a known problem where remotes can stop working when Toyota add keys.
This has happened to me first hand.
I did all keys lost on a Yaris cross and everything went well, using a genuine key.
Weeks later Toyota added a spare key and both remotes stopped working.
I was told they had to re-register a "B" code between the maid body ECU and the certification ECU.
Maybe this is what the code supplier is talking about.

Yep, this'll happen occasionally. Some tools even prompt you to do this after the key learn procedure. It's nothing special, just send the command and hold a key up to the button.

That’s common enough that I had obdstar perform an ecu to steering wheel marriage after smart has been added. On SUBARU it’s the opposite things happen REMOTE FUNCTION WORKS! But smart won’t work look for ecu sync on the menu.

Other then the "code guy" I haven't read about anybody else bricking the smt so I guess that answers the question

Just for fun today I did a spare key on a 2023 Corolla Cross 4A BA system with the 30-pin bypass cable. I usually do these with the TIS form because I just prefer doing stuff to the manufacturer specification if it's available to me.
I did the job, removed the batteries from both proxes and replaced them 10-15 minutes later. Car still works fine.
What is being done to these cars with the bypass cable is nothing groundbreaking. The read function for the SMT unit is a native function of the SMT unit just locked behind a secure gateway and a password. All we do with the cable is bypass the secure gateway.
