Ford Focus C Max 1.6 tdci P1603

Hello I have a Focus Cmax 1.6 tdci with error code P1603. The battery is dead, I know how to synchronize. My question is, is it enough to read it from the dash with Carprog or i prog, or do you have to take out the eeprom and read it that way.

Always is safer to remove dash and ECU and read on table
