Hi all
The front tyres on my Nissan Note are nearing the illegal tread limit of 1.6mm so will need replacing soon
my question to all the guru's on here is thus:
the current tyres fitted on the car are the following:
185 / 55 / 16 R
What i'm asking is, what difference (positive/negative) is there of fitting the following size:
195 / 55 / 16 R
any help is appreciated, would just like to know if fitting a larger tyre width would cause any issues?
many thanks

Not much of a difference if you put them on the back axle and proper size on front..
You can also fit them on front but you'll go a bit faster than dash shows.

would it be a major difference? i.e. if im coming up to a 30mph speed camera and my speedo is on exactly 30 will i be doing 31mph+?
also, what about fitting 185/60/16?
i believe that is the thickness of the sidewall?
reason for all this palava is that 185/55/16 tires are very difficult to find!

Do you have the operators handbook?
If you have there should be a section giving tyre sizes which are fitted as standard and alternatives.
A quick browse on the web seems to suggest that the standard tyre size is 185/65/15 and the 185/55/16 wheels and tyres are an option
Perhaps the tyre size calculator here may be of use to you.
Changing tyres sizes - tyre size change calculator (http://www.etyres.co.uk/tyre-size-calculator.htm)
Tyre size 185/55/16
185 = tread width
55 = Aspect ratio of height to width (%)
16 = nominal wheel diameter

mytyres.co.uk - Search Results: 185/55 R16 H Summer tyres (http://ssl.delti.com/cgi-bin/rshop.pl?suchen=Ordern&cart_id=87941327.110.5147&ranzahl=4&Breite=185&Quer=55&Felge=16&Speed=H&Transport=P&dsco=110&sowigan=So&kategorie=6&Ang_pro_Seite=15&sort_by=preis)
Here you can get tyres:
It won't make such a big difference for speed cameras as your speedo shows less that actual speed. So, I would say fit them no problems, but that is only my 2p..

strangely enough in irl we are now on 3mm thread depth and new rule coming into force all tyres must have an e or E rating on sidewall and any supplier selling non branded tyres will be in trouble.

so it should be ok for me to fit the following:
185/65/16 on my car? this only involves an increase in the height of the tyre wall so should be ok as width is identical
assuming if width is changed it affects how well the tyre sits on the alloy or am i wrong in assuming this?
many thanks

From the calculator website previously posted
"When considering changing wheel and tyre sizes, it is necessary to maintain a diameter that is as close as possible to the original so that the gearing of the drive train is not adversely impacted. Doing so will also ensure that the ride height will not change significantly."
Increasing the height to width ratio from 55 to 65 will, in effect make the wheel bigger by over 6%.
I personally would not recommend going from 55 to 65

No you should not fit them, they are a difference of 37mm circumference. That's 6%, you need to keep it around 2%. Check in your owners manual for the correct size to start with as you never know they may be wrong anyway. Use the tyre calculator at Tyre Calculator - Alloy Wheels - Specialist supplier of alloy wheels and tyres packages, Fast Delivery, Buy Online. (http://www.alloywheels.com/tyrecalc.asp) & you will be able to see what fits & what doesn't. This english site gives you the difference in the speedo reading at 70mph. Of course the tyre size may be programmable in your dash! maybe worth checking out.
