Hello everyone. I bought a 2012 A5 and the owner said it needs a BCM2. Upon looking the car came with a BCM2 from an A4 and then another BCM2 from some other car. The original is gone. Can anything be done without the original BCM?

If you don't have original BCM2 then the easiest way will be to get brand new one and adapt it online.

As in. New from the dealer?
What if I just got the ECU, ignition. BCM. Bcm2 and keys from another car?

Then you would need to figure out how to match the BCM2 with CAN gateway to overcome component protection.

So. I would need the stereo also?

I got all the parts listed Above....
ECU. BCM1, BCM2, gauge cluster, ignition switch and the key. The car shows component protection and the donor car was autotragic, so now it won't turn on.

Immo can be transfered from new BCM2 to old ECU - so your car will run, but CP is another story.

I can still get the CP from the automatic car.

So, I swapped out all the modules except the CAN gateway, for now. I still have the same issue. I put the key in. It clicks once the. Clicks again so I can remove it. ECU won't stay on long enough to recode as manual.
I have recorded the BCM1&2 for manual and the ignition for manual. The gauge cluster isn't giving me that option, though.

You can't recode ECU to manual/automatic. It's totally different software for manual and automatic gearbox. So your only options are:
- immo off original ECU
- copy immodata from donor BCM2 to original ECU

easyiest way if you know your ecu model you purschase a used bcm2 module for the car and adapt you ecu with new bcm2 security data and other module if needed

Is there a link to see how to do that?
I can keep all the new stuff and just put my old ECU back in and try to make that work. The guy I bought the stuff from is bringing me the can gateway today or tomorrow.

Yeah, I'll probably just disable Immo on my original ECU. The only components left are the stereo, can gateway and the steering lock... What else could be remaining to change?.. the only difference between the donor car and mine is the donor is an A4 without the mmi and mine is the a5. I have already coded the BCM and bcm2 for a 2 door a5..

{sigh}
Can gateway and center display has been replaced with the ones from the A4. Steering lock still active. Canbus complains the TCu isn't found and the rear door sensors aren't found.
I tried to disable that with VCDS, but it won't let me.

If I put all the original parts back in can a dealer program the BCM2 to match?

Yes but you need to buy brand new BCM2.

there no standart method it depend of the equipement you have for me for example i have vvdi2 + mutlprog + flex ..
you could try if possible to virgin your ecu and adapt with new bcm2 data and make sure to extract the cs data because may be you need it to adjust other car module like gateway gearbox etc... i m not specialist audi but for bmw for some model with have to adapt gearbox seat module etc...

Progress!!
I jumpered the ECU relay to keep it powered and was able to change the coding for a manual transmission car..

Now I have to replace the steering lock actuator, which is likely the last component in the list.

So. The steering lock did the trick for starting, but now I have the component lock to deal with. I didn't get the modules down in the center console and will see of someone. Can remove the Immo for those.
