I’ve only done about 10 Mercedes keys and it’s been enough to get fed up with my Autel IM508. It’s only ever been fun when you can solder the APA109 adapter to the EIS circuit board and read EEPROM and get password instantly. Other than that, I’m sick of its long password calculation times, and hit or miss coverage, sometimes working, sometimes not, which seems to be the case with all makes and models with Autel.
I am planning on buying VVDI MB Tool and VVDI Prog and the EIS adapters and the MCU adapter, but after 5 days of extensive research, it doesn’t seem so much better than Autel anymore, although still necessary to buy it.
I am already getting scared reading of some models that couldn’t be calculated quickly with MB Tool (for example some w220), but can someone please confirm that overall the password calculation is faster and better coverage than Autel?
For example latest failed calculation by Autel was W220 with MCU 0G47V. Tried with Gbox slow and fast method, all the different menu options, and didn’t work either way.
Last time W220 with MCU 1D69J, it didn’t work under Expert Mode EIS Tools Get Password or All Keys Lost w/Gbox slow or fast. But then I used Smart Mode Hot Functions All Keys Lost Guided function Slow way and it worked (all keys lost guided function fast didn’t work). I was happy it finally worked but also thought it was so stupid how I had to try about 5 different menu options before it worked.
Do you think VVDI MB Tool performs better via IR on these W220 with MCU? I’m reading it’s hit or miss, but I’m guessing it’s better than Autel. I’m assuming I will just have to use Prog with the MCU adapter to do these cars.
Also, next question regarding the box of 10 EIS adapters for Prog.. it seems these only work on the models that I can already read by soldering the APA109 cable? In which case I probably won’t buy these adapters because soldering the APA109 only takes about 5-10min anyway.
It seems the EIS adapters for Prog mostly cover the HC12 and ST12 boards. For example, the W220 adapters are only for HC12 or ST12 boards right? For any W220 with MCUs I’d have to try by IR or use Prog with the MCU adapter right? It actually seems like soldering with APA109 allows you to read more EEPROMs than these adapters do, since you can read some W220 EIS with MCU with the APA109, just not all MCU masks.
That brings me to the next question, does VVDI MB Tool or Prog have an adapter like the APA109 which requires you to solder to points? Does it cover more models than Autel w/ APA109 does?
Regarding keylessgo keys.. correct me if I’m wrong but Autel can only program 2009+ keylessgo keys but not cars older than 2009? But VVDI MB Tool can program any year keylessgo? I know 2009+ can use aftermarket keys but anything under 2009 has to use a refurbished OEM key. What tools do I need to refurbish an OEM key and what’s the process?
Also what is the process to program a keylessgo key using VVDI MB Tool? Should it just work after adding the key in to the EIS?
Are there any times VVDI MB Tool cannot make a keylessgo key work?
Any input is greatly appreciated. Please don’t yell at me and tell me to search. I have extensively searched many sites for 5 nights and still am left with these questions. If you feel there are other threads that answer some of my questions, please link them.
