1998 Merc 200E mileage

Hi lads my friend asked me to do the miles for him as he got a dash and wants the miles changed. i have a digimaster two and for 98 it gives two modes one is wiring ti the cluster plug and mode two is via the diagnostic plug does this mean if i plug into the diagnostic plug and change the mileage thats it or do i have to do mode one first
