to be able to read on board, i cant seem to find a small enough one, all of mine are huge

Simple CH341 + clip can read it onboard if lucky.

Yes CH431 , and if you search and rework it (depend of version u have ) , it's MORE possible ( voltages supports)

I do it and it's worked for me :)
