Hello

I have lost the original key of my Fiat Punto 2000 and now i have only an unchipped metallic key to open the doors but i cant start the car with that key.

Is there any way to bypass the im*obilizer?

Im not a proffessional in car repair but i am in electronics and pc repairs :)

Thank you

There is much discussion on the net about Fiat keys and much advice can be found but it is confusing as there are several conflicting opinions.

From your VIN number your car appears to be:

Punto 60 SX Selecta, 1.2 SPI, 3 Door, Left Hand Drive, Produced in April 1999.

If this is correct then is the "Key Code" lamp illuminated on the dash when you insert the key?

Do you have the Key Code card?

If you have you may be able to get a key from your Fiat dealer. If not and the key you have does not have a transponder then it may prove very costly to get a replacement as previous lost key situations with Key Coded Fiat's involve a complete replacement of ECU, Codebox and a full lock set.

I think, but I am not sure, that the Code system on later models only involve coding between the Codebox and keys.

It may be possible for a Fiat dealer to interogate the ECU/im*o in order to get the code and then make a key but Genuine Fiat replacement keys are very expensive.

More info can be found by Googling for Fiat forums (Puntosports, Fiatforum) ect.

Another alternative is to obtain a lockset and ecu/codebox from a breakers or sometimes they are available on ebay.

Modern day technologies make it possible for transponder keys to be cloned but this will not help if you do not have a coded key.
