Hi and welcome to DK
first off give the young un a clip round the lug.
I have had no experience with this box but if it happened when he changed something in HDD mode have you tried whatever other options are available in that mode.
when you turn emu on have you also set default key

if you have the latest firmware and turned emu on and set default key then put on SKY SP1 and it won't update then there is not much else left to try.
did you scan on NTL provider
have you tried inputting the codes manually

you can get them off the bigmaq toolbar or from keymaster
keymaster here http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f10/keymaster-v1-2-a-15751/
the ones you want are pure ntl

this is grasping at straws but I have read about people getting channels on a different provider in particular chorus, you have nothing to lose so try scanning on different ones and see if you have any luck (factory reset first)

Try flashing it with the rs232 cable instead of using the usb cable, if that doesn't work try flashing again via usb cable.

:afraid: i have just received a NEW Virmin card today i live in Teesside as well so it looks like you might have been changed over to NAGRA 3 the info with my new card said that all my channels will be unavailable if i do not activate my card within 2 weeks so it looks like i will have to get the sports package and a extra box for our lass i suppose all good things come to the end
