HI All,
Firstly, I am a noob to all this after only installing my 80cm motorised system on Saturday and this forum has been a great help so far.
I have been watching Nova Sports, and I am getting a signal strength on the listing banner of around 52% - but when I go into Thor 1W settings it is showing 75% quality, is it normal to have some channels a lower signal on the same satellite? I have tried fine tuning E and W but can't get it more than 55% as a maximum - when I change to transponder 2, I get a thor signal of 86%. I then goto this setting or save changes, but when I go back into the menu, it has gone back to transponder 1 and therefore 75% quality. Any ideas??

hello mate,
will try and help but not absolutely sure what you mean.
to start with yes its normal for different transponders to vary in strength.
I"ve just tried "nova sport"and it is a good strong channel I"m getting snr(signal strength)of 87% and agc(quality) of 72%.it sounds like your dish is slightly out of alignment it may be the elevation needs adjusting on the dish itself. Its strange that you have a good quality reading and poor signal as signal strength is usually high and you just have to try and get the quality as high as possible.
this is the bit I dont understand what your trying to do,you cant change the transponder for a channel unless it transmits on more than one like bbc world.when you go into the motorised settings menu and scroll through the transponders you will find they will vary.where are you "saving"if its in the satellite setup menu all you are doing is saving the satellite for scanning in the motorised settings menu.
when you go into the motorised settings menu it will always start off with TP 1 as this is just a list of TPs enabled and TP 1 is not neccessarily the transponder you are viewing at that time.

Thanks Dick b for your help - I can see some of my terminology is up the left!! When I referred to "signal" I was always actually feferring to the "quality". I think you might be right and I may need to fine tune the angle of my dish slightly.
Regarding Transponders, I thought that you could select which transponder you use, and that is why I was trying to save a transponder that gave me 85% quality, as opposed to 75% from the default transponder. So am I right in thinking then that there is no way of selecting which transponder you connect to?

Hi Blueboy, If your dish is handy and not 20 feet up on a roof you could loosen the lnb holder slightly to turn the lnb for skew which might improve your quality reading on the lower channels.

no you cant select a transponder for a given channel.
think of the transponder as the frequency that contains a number of channels. if when you are viewing a channel press ok then the yellow button you can scroll down the transponders on the left and it will show you what channels are on each one.
