What would you do to get a job if you were out of work now.
Yesterday i saw some signs along a very busy roadside saying "Driver looking for work" included his license details and phone number. Deserves a job surely.

at least the guy tried, he will properbly end getting 'done' for fly posting, but
then he could try and get a job removing 'fly posters' lol.

I`ve been on the dole several times but the last time I really decided to ~SELL~ myself to employers(no, not what your thinking) by being more pro-active at interviews. It may or may not have helped. Employers tend to shy away from overqualified applicants so you have to try and get a balance. You can hide qualifications not suitable to the position but introduce them if a better position arises assuming that you get the job in the first place.

But why, the 'job' is to sweep the floor, but if you want to use your maths degree and use pye whilst sweeping pie up fine.
So you have been trained in fire training (awesome fun) and one day
either a) a fire exthinger (new spelling) is trigged by accident, the type with the knob that carries on, how do you stop it ? (tip it upside down)
or b) something cathes fire, but you have been trained in a former life how use use an exthingher, aim for the base of the fire, you have 60 seconds to use this thing, no bigger than a waste paper basket, RUN like ~~~~ towards the big door.
Surly been over qualified is a bonus. Some thick builder comes in to price a job, you know that x+y=z so the max amount of 25kg of cenment to brick that door up is blah

The thing is most eastern europeans do the sh8te jobs, for sh8te mooney what most dole-ites in this country wouldn't even pick up their mobile phone for - never mind get out of their lazy bed for.

Meaty, you`re assuming that the pile of pye rubbish has gone on fire in which case I would throw the brush in on it to keep it going until the fire brigade arrive. No point in calling them out for nothing. A mate of mine who worked on a large gas fired pottery kiln was asked what would he do if the kiln went on fire and he said that he would keep an eye on it from the other side of town.

And the below quoted post is very good advice!
After well over 20 years working for a company since leaving school, my company went bust, and for the first time in my life, I had to go on the dole.
After getting not a great responce to employers to my CV, I damped it down a bit and kept back a bit of info.
Result, I'm starting a new job next Monday!

Got to admit, if you're over qualified & they know it, they're not gonna touch ya.
I'm in a similar situation. I have retail management experience & vowed never to return to it. But when prospective employers see it they instantly ask 'why would someone with this experience be interested in working in a call centre?'
It's far easier to make yourself a little dumber.

Correct, if over qualified or over experienced, a prospective employer thinks you are not going to stay around long and just use them as a stop gap till you find summat better.
Despite me only ever working for 1 company since school, didn't click with some companies.
I have to say though, that day time TV and Jeremy Kyle forced me to get another job quick, I couldn't put up with watching that arsehole any longer!

i can state for a fact that tescos, asda, mcdonnalds, burger king and kfc have a policy of hiring "idiots first."
That is to say, people with next to no education, the worse your grades are the beter the chances.
The reason is simple, all of them are very anti trade union.
People with less education are less likely to complain about poor conditions, safety legislation, hygene standards, etc.
As soon as they clock on your smarter than the average bear, you quickly find life getting more difficult, especialy if your articulate enough to point out employment legislation when your in the enevitable "diciplinary" procedure...
employers dont want an empowered and educated work force, wage slavery doesnt work well in situations when the average joe can see through the bullshit.

Nice one Chroma,
I applied for Asda 3 times and was knocked back each time with a polite "no thanks" letter. Folks that did get the positions were half wits that could barely tie their shoe laces never mind recite pi to 3 points (3.142 btw lol) and what is worse is 4 of them are still working there after 7 years!
Makes you wonder...

a guy in glasgow was unemployed for 3 month so he walked up sauchihall street for two weeks with a sandwhich board stating his intentions and phone number. it was reported in the scottish press and two weeks later he got an offer from an employer who read it in the newspapers.
