Hello all, I've just dusted my Wii off after being put to rest for the past 18 months. I have a Wiikey 2 installed and I notice I have 3.2e firmware and just wondered if you'd be able to give me some advice on what I should do with regards to updating the firmware etc. Ideally, I'd like to use it for BBC iplayer but when I tried to access the Wii Shop Channel, it said I needed to upgrade to 4.2. Should I do this? I was afraid to just in case I messed it up, so I tought I'd come on here for some advice first.

Thanks in advance!

you can use this Digital Kaos - Downloads - v4.2 safe firmware updater (http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/downloads/wii/16/v4-2-safe-firmware-updater-1037/) to get you to 4.2 safely or you can use the shop channel installer http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f16/shop-channel-ios61-installer-rar-87643/ which will keepyou at 3.2 but let you install bbc iplayer

Ck or anyone else for that matter - looking to upgrade my wii at some point this weekend ideally.

Had the zelda mod for ages so I am on 3.2e. Also installed usb configurable and play all the games from the usb drive which is excellent. Also have BBc iplayer.

Would now like to upgrade to 4.2e which looks like its the best version to be on. Have downloaded the complete zip from the sticky at the top. So will use that with the instructions when I eventually get to 4.2e.

What is the best (safest) way to get on to 4.2?

Is it just through a normal system update, or the v4.2 safe firmware update which I have downloaded from ck link or is there something better?

Grateful for the heads up guys.

Ck yes I have mate. Just tried again and think I know whats wrongs.

Using the link in the 4th post downloaded and extracted to sd. It installs the various ios fine up until the wii shop updater. completes 2 of 18 then says "hash bad" and boots back to homebrew screen.

Anyone have another copy?

the safe 4.2 updater is the best way to go cause if you update via internet you will need to remod, try deleting the shop channel and run 4.2 updater again

I know this is an older post but I have that same question????

Have the peeps that were on 3.2E upgraded to 4.2 or above found everything OK or would you have prefered to stay on 3.2?

I'm also on 3.2E with WiiKey2 but also softmodded with Zelda trick, I play all games from a usb HD with usb loader but not played any recent games lately. (That will change soon)

Can I still use the above files or is there any better?
Can I backup my 3.2E and return to this if the latest version causes problems?

Thanks all

theres no need to update to 4.2 just update your ios38 http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f16/cios38-r17-85849/ and perhaps update your loader or get a new one like http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f16/uloader-5-1d-cios-installer-143444/

Thanks for providing this information. Can I ask one more question, I have a Wiikey2, running 4.0e, with Homebrew channel. If I apply the safe 4.2 update, as per post #4, will that allow me to keep the ability to play out-of-region backups?

Thx

Similar query.
I have 3.2E and wiikey1. I want to upgrade to 4.2 or 4.1 and retain region free-dom(?) with my back-ups.
Wiikey says you cant when upgrading to 4.2 But is that true if I use the "safe update" in post #4?
How about the "simple update" using DOP-mii as desrcibed here http://sites.google.com/site/completesg/other-stuff/updating

I understand that the patches etc benefit softmodders, but what about wiikey users? (like everyone here I'm dusting off my 3.2E + wiikey 1)

you should be fine with the safe updater but you might find that a few newer games wont work with the wiikey1

Today I dusted off my Wii too and discovered that it has v3.2E on board. I softmodded it years ago with the Zelda trick. This thread looks promising enough to try upgrading the software to v4.2E.

I only hope that I won't cripple my Wii. If it does, I get problems with my kids

So long as my games will run I am happy.
I have original wiikey. Just don't want to brick.
Should I just use the safe upgrade to 4.2?
Is there anything now that softmodding can't do compared to an original wiikey?

Does it matter if I update my wiikey 1 to 1.99 before I update my Wii from 3.1e to 4.2e? Or should I do the other way around?

I actually removed my WiiKey ages back and started using normal softmods. They are usually more reliable then those clip-on chips.

hi,

I'm hoping you are able to advise.

I have recently purchased a softmodded wii. The system is currently:

system menu = 3.2e
homebrew channel = 1.1.0 IOS58 v24.32
bootmii = currently installed as main IOS

I would like to know if it would be ok to uninstall bootmii then reinstall as boot2. Also if I should update the system menu using the safe firmware updater first then try and set bootmii as boot2. At the moment I am unable to use priloader to enable hacks as an error message is displayed saying "Can't find hacks_hask.ini".

I'm not sure which version changed to BootMii on IOS I would have thought yours would have been on Boot2. I shouldn't really make much difference where its install it just makes it a bit easier to recover from a brick.

PriiLoader normally uses hacks.ini but if you want this ini the Google it hacks_hash.ini download or Priiloader hacks.zip (http://wiibrew.org/wiki/File%3aPriiloader_hacks.zip). Select the correct version. I've seen different locations for this ini on the SD card root and in the apps\priiloader folder. It doesn't write to this ini as the date never changes so stick a copy in each location to be sure.

Do you have hacks.ini in both locations, that one is written too?

To check if bootmii is boot 2 turn the wii on without a game in the drive and if bootmii is boot 2 the drive light will flash twice. You need to put the hacks.ini file on the root of the sd card for them to be recognised. Do not try to update anything until you have made sure you have a working backup route. I.e bootmii as boot 2 or working priiloader,,,, but both require you to have a working nand backup without this you have way to recover any brick
