Hi everyone,

Firstly, thanks for all the great information available on this site. I have already learned a lot but so far cannot find a solution to my problems.

I recently bought an Astra H (58 reg) and decided to retrofit the cruise control, bluetooth handsfree, navi and colour screen. I bought everything off eBay but the only head unit I could find to match my interior was a DVD90 from the Czech Republic. After fitting everything, I took it to my local dealer and they installed it all with Tech2. So far so good.

When I collected my car, they mentioned that they couldn?t change the language of the voice announcements as it wouldn?t accept their language CD but everything was installed correctly and no more Tech2 work was needed. So I went home and started researching.

Sure enough, the DVD90 will not accept any language CD I give it. I have bought a real copy from eBay (2005 version) and tried both of these downloads (burned at 1x speed):

The other really weird thing is that I can?t actually get the navi to show any maps at all. It seems to be reading the CD/DVD fine because it can tell me what road I?m on and will happily let me select a destination. It even gives me route statistics, suggests alternatives because of traffic and reads out the instructions in Czech! But not a map in sight.

I have tried using a real map CD from 2007/2008, as well as the latest CD and latest DVD from the links below, both burned at 1x speed. They all seem to work and let me navigate but none of them show me a map.

I have tried changing every setting I can find and even reset the eeprom but none of it has helped. I have burned a CD (1x speed) of the latest software update from the link below and when I put it in it asks me if I want to upgrade. I haven?t done this yet as the 2 versions it lists are the same and I really don?t want to brick the unit. I have attached some pictures of what I?m explaining.

So, does anyone have any suggestions of what I should try now? Do I have the latest software version or should I try upgrading? Is there any other way to change the language? Has anyone come across missing maps before? Are these problems related?

I really hope that all my efforts don?t end up being wasted. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just to let you know that I did the software update which worked fine but it hasn't helped. Interestingly, it asked if I was sure that I wanted to install an older version of the software but I can't tell any difference.

try to install an older sw version, later you can reinstall the 10/10/2007 version from you factory cd. the headunit you own has a _modified_ software installed as opel never released czeh / slovak / polish languages for cd70/dvd90, someone made a localised version as we did hungarian translation for similar renault nav devices. if you are intrested what sw your Headunit might have you can search cd70 + czeh on youtube.com

I have finally managed to fix everything so I'll explain how as it may help someone else.

Hell was exactly right and it was the modified firmware I had installed that was causing the language CD not to be accepted. Even though I reinstalled the latest version of the firmware, it detected the same version so didn't overwrite all the files. I managed to force a proper reinstall by using software with a different version number (thanks hell).

Regarding the blank maps, I checked the RGB cable and found that one of the pins on the CID connector was bent. Once it was straightened, everything worked perfectly.
