thank you soo much buddy, i check the diodes and i found 1 with problem , but i change the 2 diodes and all the electrolytic capacitor, and now working fine.........
:rock::thrasher:
now the green capacitor have 105 volts, and i can listen the ticking noise.

Hello DK,
I have two 3618046 Celect ECM which does not communicate with Insite. 100 volts is present on the green cap, nothing is burned inside, but no 12V output on pin 16 of actuator harness. Please help me check these ECMs. Why will it not communicate with Insite.
Truck 1 was good and parked for 6 months, then it will not start.
Truck 2 was also good and parked for 6 months. Engine started fine. After turning off engine, it will not start again.
It seems that keeping these trucks on storage causes ECM failure. Please explain why.

The most common problem is a 1.8ohm resistor just near the green cap open circuit.
Hello Makura,

Can you show location of 1.8 ohm resistor?

Hello Peter 21,
Thank you for prompt your reply. I now see the two diodes. What is the part number?
I also noticed that your picture shows only one transistor on each heatsink. Is this a Celect ECM?
See attached picture from one of my 3618046 Celect ECM. There are two transistors on each sink.
Do you know why they are not identical?
Thanks a lot.

Hi
First of all if you have the 100volts on the green cap, forget about the 2 diodes.
turn to the logic side of the ecm, which is the side where your memory and micro chips are.remove the electrolytic cap 100uf X6volts,use some alcohol and a old tooth brush and clean the area around your crystal and replace the cap with a new one and BINGO your ECM is back to life.

The ecm with one mosfet on the heat sink is a revised version and the one with two is the older design,if you trace on the old version the mosfets that have been removed did not have use on the board,a waste of spares,so they revised the design.
hope you are answered.

got a celect plus 3096662 ecm that cannot accelerate....only idle...one of the two fault codes is 551, check my supply 4.89V and ground is good.....any help would be appreciated
The idle validation on a celect plus does not work in the same way as that of a celect.
1..on celect you will have a 5volts being your common and being switched either to the on or off idle position.
2..on Celect plus the common or centre wire has ground(return)which is in turn switched between on and off idle.so on the celect plus you will have two 5volts lines one on each of the validation positions(on and off lines)
so 90 percent of the time you will find that you centre (common) line has a continuity to ground, most of the time you will find a burnt track just near the OEM harness that supplies the ground to the validation switch.
Hope its clear enough, and good luck :viking::help:

What are the internal differences of a celect and a celect plus? Thanks.
Celect ecms and celect plus ecm are very different in their internal construction in that the celect plus ecm uses more I.Cs on its power pcb, and component lay out. Its logic section also uses a different memory architecture as compared to the celect ecm.

But I am having difficulty this time on my third 3618046 which would not communicate. After replacing 100uf cap near crystal and all caps, it now communicates, but intermittently stops. I again replaced 100uf cap and checked for bad solders.......no improvement. Communication intermittently drops.

hi poptest
i've had this problem before on a celect ecm and solved it by :
1. with your ecm connected on a bench and out of the casing, measure voltage on outer leg of green cap...connect to insite first and watch data LED on adaptor.
2. when communication drops does the voltage change?
3. If so check surface mount caps behind diode heatsink parralell to green cap
hope this helps

The C64 is a 28pin chip so your adapter converts 32pin to 28pin,so if you put a C64 on the 512 adapter two pins on the chip are not used so the programmer will detect the missing pins.
There are a lot of adapters all depending on the chip you want to program,if that particular chip has a DIP type package and it has 28 pin then use the 32-28 pin converter,if it has a 32 pin DIP equevalent then use the 32 plcc adapter.

I am unable to Calibrate Cense Module thats the Prob with me...
Can you please Guide me ? how to do this ?
Its about 7 years since I calibrated a QSV genset Cense module
To calibrate the Cense module on a QSV genset, first connect to the set with Insite 7.x on the J1939 datalink
Insite should find the MCM700 and CM558 modules, at this point Insite 7.x may not find the Cense module, if it does calibrate the module.
If Insite 7.x does not find the module, connect to the 3 pin Cense connector (usually) in the HMI cabinet. This is RS232, no inline adapter required, but a special cable is used.
Go to System menu, user options to set up your connection.
Open Insite for Cense, try to connect to the Cense module, you will get a warning that the module is not calibrated. Close Insite for Cense and open Insite 7.x, go to calibration selection and choose your Cense calibration from the selection, calibrate in the usual way.

The part number for a cense bench calibration harness is 3163064. this cable is used without an inline adapter, it connects the RS232 datalink of the Cense module direct to the serial port of your PC/laptop.

To duplicate the effect of the engine speed sensor, you need the 6+1 signal, 6 even pulses for engine speed plus the extra pulse for number 1 TDC. Maybe the easiest way to doo this is with a real camshaft gear and an EPS.
I have made a camshaft gear mounted on a shaft, driven by a washing machine motor, with an EPS mounted on a bracket, this provided a good engine sped signal, and the motor speed is variable.

There must be a way to do it electronically.
I think a PLC program such as Beckhoff Twincat would do it, but I do not know how to program Beckhoff.
I know that a Siemens S7 200 PLC will do it, I know how to program these, but the cost of hardware and power supplies is too much. A lot cheaper to do it mechanically.
The signals are just a positive voltage signals at a set intervals to indicate engine speed, just need to be square wave, not sine wave.

simulator did at school with an oscilloscope and connected to a sound card, but
was very difficult, when it was made I did not put much attention
So I would like to know how to do it again
I did not want to confuse anyone

Hi members, please I need your help. A ECM showed a message saying that it lost the communication, then that it's seeded and need to be calibrated. The problem is that after it was re-calibrated it lost all the parameters and I can not figure out all of them, specially the ones from J1939 Multiplexing (unfortunately there is not ECM image), Insite did not restored any parameter or data.
The truck is a 2005 Volvo SN: 4V4NC9TG66N386286 ISX 400. Another issue is that the sticker is peeled from the ECM so I calibrate it with the CPL 8520 that was the one Insite detected. Please if someone can help me with the original ECM configuration of all parameters with this truck, it will be enormously appreciated.
Thanks in advance and best regards.

These parameters are from a 2008 VN with ISX450
I don't know if they are correct for your truck but you can try.
You can tell from your vehicle fault codes which module is missing ECM information, then use Insite to configure that component for multiplexing, it only needs to be enabled for multiplexing and given an address from the dropdown selection. they should all be disabled in the ECM by default, you then need to check for switches, brake clutch CC etc, most times these come from the dashboard or CC, vehicle speed often comes from ABS, sometimes its just trial and error untill you find the correct location.

Most Industrial calibrations are specific to the machine, for example a QSX15 CPL 2828, 600 HP calibration fr10320. There are 25 calibrations all essentially the same rating but with different features and parameters. The industrial customers are a lot lower volume production, they do not use VEPS to set up the ECM with the features and parameters specific to the machine, some do not even have Insite at the factory (some do not even have service techs with Insite) Each OEM gets their engines delivered with their own specific calibration already in the ECM from the factory or distributor, ready to bolt into the machine, the features and parameters are all set up.
Most automotive calibrations only have 3-4 calibrations for each rating, there will be different certifications, maybe one cal set up for multiplexing, maybe a 12 and 24 volt version, all the truck OEMs will get the same calibration. The truck OEM has to set up the features and parameters to suit the truck the engine is fitted to.
So for automotive (and Power Gen) you use save and restore, for Industrial, Marine and you do not need to,
I usually use save and restore if the machine is working fine, and I always save a work order anyway, so if there were changes made to feature and parameters I can get them back after a recal.

OK that explains it,when you have a foot print there are no parameters to copy.everything goes to 0 even your trip wil be reset just the same as an ecm in rom boot.

That depends on what process was happening when the footprint occured, I have seen footprinted ECM that have all info available for restoring.
A footprint occures when the ECM looses communication with the laptop/vehicle module during a write to the ECM, such Insite as erasing faults, changing parameters or a vehicle module restoring a parameter. Loss of communication can be caused by turning the key off, PC going into a power save setting, disconnecting a cable among other things.
A footprint can also be caused by not waiting the correct length of time during the key off phase of restting faults and changing parameters and by turning the unswitched power off too soon after key off.

Hi m8.
Using the romboot cable try the following:
Connect it up to the ecm and depress the switch on the romboot cable turn on your ignition supply, release the romboot switch then shortly after turn off the ignition supply. This will usually rom-boot your ecm if it fails try it a couple of times and eventually you will get it right. Hint: if you are able to here a clicking sound from your ecm with the key on then you should be able to hear it with the key off if rom-boot successful. Another way to do it would be to connect your ecm up to insite then start a calibration session when your ecm has gone say over 50 % -then disconnect from insite and your ecm will be in rom-boot mode.
Another thing make sure that you are connected to your ecm on the sensor harness of your ecm using the rom-boot cable.
Hope this answers your question and good luck.

I think the calibration has somehow become corrupted, try to recalibrate the ECM using Insite, with the standard calibration from the InCal disk.

I already recalibrate the ECM with Insite, I thought too, that maybe the info in the ECM become corrupted but it has the same parameters as when I checked it the first time. The driver told me that everything was fine until the starter started to give him problems then he had to fix the alternator and when the electric man fixed the alternator, the check engine started to flash.
There is the possibility that the ECM is now faulty because the voltage changing in the truck alternator?

Before you replace the ECM, try removing the alternator belt, clear all of the codes and test run the truck with the belt off. Electrical noise in the system from a defect in the alternator could be the cause. Also, check the timing sensor as a possible source of electrical interference. We had a Celect Plus logging strange codes and found the culprit to be the timing sensor, when removed we found it was cracked and had a small chunk out of the end of it (?). Also check all of the ECM ground and power connections.

Hi m8
Have had a similar experience with several celect ecms in the past and have managed to repair by recalibration as jctech has mentioned. Check also if fault code 434 is active. If so after you connect to insite turn your ignition key off and on and check if the 434 fault becomes inactive. If not then it is highly possible that your ecm is faulty and will need to be repaired.
Hope this helps.

What exactly are you failing to do? If you are trying to calibrate using calterm maybe try using insite, it is a lot easier than calterm. What is the state of this ecm you are trying to recalibrate. A voltage spike, voltage recieved on an incorrect pin or a short in the ECM supply or return wiring could be an issue.
The ECM B and C models were not the most robust ECM's.

Hi m8
Sorry did not get your question earlier. If the connector is in the truck cab then that usually leads to the OEM harness and if its near the ecm @ the engine side that would be from the sensor harness.

I've recalibrated fleet ecms and had the same problem on some vehicles. If vehicle battery supply is below 10 volts problems start. Also have blown out three Inline 5 data links when using the USB ports. The port runs hot and is not recommended for reprograming. If you are using a laptop a remote power supply is a must and a RS232 cable works best. Some in the same ecm family will program using J1708 as well as the 9 pin J1939. I have only had to use the rom boot cable twice. its a pain to setup and I don't think it was needed. As long as you can communicate it should take any program in its identified range.

First, are you using the datalink connector on the engine? If you use the one in the cab, this will happen. Try this: connect to the datalink connector on the engine, start Insite, turn key on for a few seconds, then turn key off and hit connect to ECM right after key off. You may be able to connect to ECM this way - it will be in a romboot state. Once you are connected flash it with Insite/Incal DVD. The features and parameter settings are probably lost so you may have to sort through that one at a time or if you have a similar truck on hand you can copy those settings. Good luck.

dear guys woul you be so kind and help with a problem with a Cummins Celect Plus 3408303
I was being able to acces to the ECM, but it told me that the ECM needed to be recalibrated, so I selected autodetect calibration and suggested the right for the truck,
I follow all the steps to recalibrate, but at the end of all the operations the last 3 steps failed and the calibration did not transfer succesful.
I did all of this from the conection inside the driver cab,
after not workinf the calibration download process, I decided to to try with the connection from the engine, and looked like it was going to work , because some more new bars reload... making look good, and before I was able to turn the ignition key on...
again the transfer failed, the laptop disconnect from the ecm and now
I can not with ECM....
what can I do... the ECM is like not detected.. insite tell me to check connection but I know all cables are good...
thanks in advance for your help...
I will appreciate it a lot any help...

Now the truck does not turn on, I'm in troubles, 'cause the first problem was too much smoke, but now, I have to make it turn on..
Any help is appreciate it a lot...
For next time and always use the engine conector 2-pin or 6-pin on Celect Plus engines. This applies to recalibrate engines only. All other porpuses can be done conecting on the Cabin Conetor underneath dash somewhere downthere is located.
Because calibration will fail and sometimes ECM will go blank like it did in your case. Take care now!

Hi m8.
Don't know if this will help but try connecting to insite then start a calibration sessision. When at around 33 or so % disconnect ecm from insite and that should leave it in a rom-booted state.
Works for me.

You did not mention to which cavity of the ecm you are connected. This is very important because the rom-boot cable works better on the sensor harness. Also when connected to the ecm how does the j1708 or j1939 light on your inline adapter behave?

You do not have to Rom Boot the ECM before calibrating.
Rom Boot is used to recover an ECM from an invalid state.
Use Insite and a valid InCal disc, and follow the instruction on the screen.
Make sure your vehicle has good batteries, make sure your PC is connected to the mains, and all power save features are disabled (screen saver hibernate etc) make sure vehicle modules that communicate with the ECM are disabled (ABS etc)

You will most likely damage the folded PCB when you try to open it.
The PCB is on the rear of the folded outer case, folded over an inner frame.

We open them quite regularly by using a small exact o blade and slowly pry (little by little) the cover off. The sealant will give way only a little bit...thus the razor blade. It is like skinning a deer.. I will try and send pictures later.

Are you able to replace the Diodes on the ECM? If so, depending on how they boosted / started the truck, they could have had a low power /voltage situation which would have put a heavier load on the internal protection that cummins provides....we have seen this many times. The other possibility is the charger they used was suppling too much voltage and this could damage the Diodes as well. Check any capacitors in proximity to the diode as this is the normal circuit...they could have been damaged as well. Cummins has a very detailed procedure for jump starting a vehicle with their ecm in it....I'll see if I can locate and post for you.
Do you have a picture of the board / circuit. can you follow the traces in that area?
In circuit testing of components can be tricky, but can be accomplished if needed.

Normally if the diodes are bad the capacitor associated with it is bad as part of that circuit.

Have tried connecting the ecm to calterm to try and unlock there but the lock status does not display and looking in the lower left corner of the calterm console a ? displays where the padlock icon is normally displayed and again I cannot seem to change the lock status there. Have tried rom-botting the ecm but once you key off the effects of rom-boot are reversed without affecting the ecm. My question is if anyone has come across such a situation before.

The engine idle speed should not alter based on the boost pressure sensor, (good or faulty), and active FC 123 will mean that the ECM will be ignoring the boost pressure sensor and using a default value.
Use insite to monitor throttle pedal position, also PTO and secondary throtle.
Most likely you have a restriction in the return fuel pipe or faulty return check valve. disconnect the return and return check valve and run the engine, or measure the return fuel restriction.

I don't think this is an ECM problem. See attached Service Parts Topic about injector spill port erosion. It may help.
But since injector replacement is an expensive fix, I suggest you do JCtech's tips first: check TPS and IVS/ISS if it is really "on idle", and also check for return line restriction.......before considering injector replacement.

Good information, I did not get a chance to look at the engine as yet, but I was talking to the owner to get at the history of the engine.
I am told that adjustments were done to injectors and valves and 2 injector pushrods were bent shortly after the adjustment.
I am thinking if the guy adjusted the injectors too thight could it be possible that the injectors were damaged, causing this probelm.
Of course I will follow JCtech advise first but I am beginning to think differently after I spoke with the owner and reading the attachment from your post.

Hey fellow Dk friends! got a quick question about an ECU. I had to re do 2 engines and when my guys pulled the engine out of the one truck they banged the ECU pretty hard well it messed it up and I have a spare one off a wrecked truck that I want to put on it. Do you have to do anything for mileage and ETC.. When changing over or can you just swap? They are both identical trucks and have the same engines and software set up. We have never really had an ECU issue as till now so I have never had to swap out so was just checking before I make anything permenant. Thanks for any help in advance:shakehands:

pbateman,
You can set the milage to the old milage on the banged up ECM using calterm. This is recommended if you want to sell the truck at a later date. If the prospective owner does what most are doing nowdays, they pull the ECM report and analyze....the numbers wouldn't match. If the truck is a lease, GET THE MILAGE CORRECT....the leasing company could get you for the full value of the truck new, and then they could claim fraud....
Just a different position....:motz:

You can also do it with Insite, Mileage and/or Hours Offset.
usually used when fiting a new ECM to get the mileage and hours correct to the vehicle display.
In this instance you would enter the mileage difference between the two ECM's

Hi all, I have a CM800 on my bench at the moment which will not communicate with Insite at all, the truck was a non runner with it on, after replacing the ECM on the truck the truck now starts so this ECM is obviously faulty, on visual inspection the board appears to be ok.
Does anyone know any common faults on these ECM's?
Thanks

Do you have a picture of the open ecm board? If so post and we might be able to POINT and SHOOT at the normal culpit...it is normally the 1939 communication chipset that takes a hit..fairly easy to replace if you can do some board cleaning and sm (surface mount) soldering....

I can get some board shots up later, however I've talked to it via J1708 and I get no response from it via that either. Ive also noticed that on a working ECU the key on state powers up the power protection IC, whereas on this broken one the key on state makes no difference, I get no 5v on the accelerator pedal feed pin and no power to the protection IC.
Thanks

Sounds like a fuse internal or a power regulator i.e. 12 volt to 5 volt.
The photos will help diagnose.
The 1708 or 1939 are simply overlays on the communication bus...as a protocol...like letters create a language, but there are many combinations of the letters to communicate with in many languages.

Well colleagues. We sent a ECM for a ISB in a 98 Freightliner FL 70.ECM Part Number is 3942858.What I would like to know is.Is there a different Part number that is Capable of controling and be flashed of course with running files? On another note, but relavent. We sent the ECM to a place called GoECM Diesel. It was supposed to be Two day turn around to rebuild and reflash. After waiting seven working days checked on status.First they had no clue on it.Get paper work in line call back. It's oh we're behind. Now today it's ten working days. They claim they have reworked it three time to no avail.Processor is bad.I'm not a rocket scientist, but I would have to think the CPU would be surface mount soldered on the board and replaced in the process.Any one deal with these guys before.Starting to feel we are being flim flammed.Thank's to who read this long drawed post.

That ECM part number was superseded by part numbers 3942860, 3944124, 3990517 in sequence. Most superseding ECM's can be calibrated with a calibration to suit an earlier ECM, (but not always the other way round)
Post your engine serial number if you need more info.
The VP44 pump engine should be around in wrecking yards to get a used ECM from.

your problem could be caused by a short circuit in the ECM. check if any fault codes are loged and again it could be your switch, if not test the wires to the switch for continuity using a multimeter.
if that doesn't work you can try to remove the ECM harness and clean the contacts with DW40

That looks to be a capacitor, similar to the pairs below. If the values are similar (or the part numbers are the same on the top) You could replace the component and give it a shot. Capacitors do were out... if you have a closeup of the face of the Capacitor next to the burned out one, I can give you the value....then you can order from Mouser.com etc.

Please replaced Idle Validation Switch guys.:hello:

475 is 4.7 uF
50K is not valid
507 is 500 uF
mouser part numbers are as follows:
4.7 uF - 581-TCJC475M050R
500 uF - 581-TPME477M010R0023
total cost would be $12.00 not including shipping.
Best guess would be the 475 or 4.7uF. remove the burned out cap and be sure to use flux to clean up the pad.
Best of luck m8

regarding the 2 plug celect above:
i once had that ecm and it was for a generator so just make sure thats the correct ecm for that engine. if so then celect ecm's pedal switch is controlled by a 6V cap located on that data board next to the ribbon cable....replace that cap and bobs ur uncle.
hope this helps.

Hi Ramianek,
You have to print out the full list of features and parameters, and change them one at a time.
The calibration on the DVD is a generic calibration, (for all engines) and has no Nissan features set up in it.
Whenever you calibrate an automotive engine always select save and restore features and parameters
The Insite job image you attached looks like an original image from the Nissan truck, it has calibration 90095.00.
If your job image was not from a footprinted ECM, to download all the reatures and parameters from this job image to your ECM is not difficult.
Do you have any other job image?
First you have to create a template from the job image.
To create a template
open Insite without opening a job image
click on work orders on the left hand task pane
click on the work order 3Z60327 Korduliak WO-20120418-102926
right click on the job image I-20120418-102926311 (initial - footprinted)
from the right click menu select transfer to template
Second you transfer the template to the ECM.
connect to your engine
right click on the template and select send to ECM

You will not be able to edit any parameter that has a padlock icon, if you try it will tell you "This Parameter is locked"
Troubleshooting steps are for an air operated system, if your truck does not use air, let me know.

There is a thread that describes what to change to use old InCal disks, also the new discs are on here.
Real time clock will not cause a problem.

In Calbration selection, highlight your calibration, right click and select properties.
All Cummins electronic engines later than Celect Plus are suited to high altitudes, the barometric pressure sensor senses altitude and adjusts fueling to suit.

I think you need to get the calibration for this engine from Komatsu, the genuine Komatsu calibration will have your excavator setup in it, a generic calibration will not work for your excavator.

If it stars taking the same calibration that is installed, when the message preparing ecm for calibration shows up and finishes, pull the 4 wire power plug. Make sure every epa cert is moved into the list. Don't wait the thirty seconds. Plug it back in and restart calibration right away using a fleet count. In 2007, I watched a Cummins tech do the same thing but the first ecm smoked <literally> when starting the engine before he caught his mistake.
