Hi Guys,

I had a TS Astra G today that we had to replace the ignition barrel in.
Turns out the actual switch was also faulty. We replaced the Ignition switch but had to use part of the old switch.
This is the part in the photo's.

It's an electro-magnet this much I know. I also know it stops me from turning the key all the way back to lock.
I removed it and everything works ok but I need to know if it's important. Can it be left out?

Many thanks

Got it, it's a faulty gearbox park sensor. Problem solved, thanks to all those who played along at home!

cool, nice photo, some members on here work all day, dealing with dibbers, donners and assholes, so we don't always get to view our favorite website.

It's the time zone that shafts me every time, how dare you guys sleep while i'm hard at work!
Is this a common part to fail?

Never seen one before, normally on auto boxes, it's a cable off the linkage.

I would susspect that

a) Some dim wit has wrenched the key back not putting it into park (if
faulty box switch fair enough)

b) Possibility the ignition switch has melted and somebody wrenched it back

What time zone and/or area are you in?

Thanks

Meaty.
