hi mate a DB9 to DB15..? This cable should be used to connect a 14.4kbps Speedster modem to a computer. The 15 pin end is for the Speedster modem..?

For a DB500s you are best getting one of these:

Null Modem For Dreambox (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/USB-2-0-to-9-pin-RS232-COM-Port-Serial-Adapter-Cable_W0QQitemZ220314393747QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_C omputing_CablesConnectors_RL?hash=item220314393747&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1300|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A13 18)

On a PC the serial port D connectors have pins, i.e are plugs.
Not all computers have serial and or parallel ports, USB is now more common .
Only very old computers have a 25 way serial port with pins.
Most modern PCs have 9 way D connectors with pins.
A PC parallel port also has a 25 way D connector but this is a socket.
A parallel (printer) port is unsuitable for connecting to a dreambox.
Below is a pinout for a 15 to 9 crossover cable,
It should be made using two sockets.
DB9-DB25 null modem cable

DB9 DB25
Name # Name #
RD 2 TD 2
TD 3 RD 3
DTR 4 DSR+CD 6+8
SG 5 SG 7
DSR+CD 6+1 DTR 20
RS 7 CS 5
CS 8 RS 4

Hi
Did you get a disc and load the drivers (usb to com port) for your bridge thingy? also are any com ports allocated in Device manager relevant to your USB thingy.
If you are using dreamup to flash the image, it needs the correct com port selecting as in device manager for your USB convertor/thingy.
T B O the USB to Com port adaptors can be a P I T A to connect and you may find it easier to goto a mates who has a PC with a 9 pin com port and do it there.

Hi
First don't use the USB Adaptor.
Are you doing it like this::??
Null modem cable needed, (are you sure its a Null modem cable, have you had success before with it before?) should be wired 2 to 3, 3 to 2, 5 to 5. hook it up between a pc's 9 pin com port and the box you are flashing, make sure com port 1 is allocated in Device manager, start software, select com port 1, and untick 'Use Network', click connect, plug power into box, should say box is alive and talking to us. select flash and away you go.

have you the drivers needed to run the cable..?
i needed to use drivers before my usb to rs232 cable would work..

plug you 9 pin into your pc then click on system in control pannel and then device manager.. see if your pc is recognising it..

Hi Thanks 4 the help

looks like things r slowly progressing LOL
have the universal dream up screen showing.

on the log it has recognised the box giving time and type of box plugged in
progress is empty
and the only command available is disconnect

get a green light on the dm box soon as plugged in.
flash and exit r both in a shade of grey not useable
B
any help most graciously accepted and a happy xmas to all
