what does FTP mean?

Sorry I am a complete newbie, can somebody tell me what FTP means?

It means File Transfer Protocol.

Its a method of transferring files from one medium to another.

For example, transferring files from your PC to the dreambox or transferring files from a PC to a web server.

Here's a guide for the dbox2 but it's the same for the dreambox.

Thank you very useful, this might seem like a silly question but does the dreamboxstill need to be connected to the TV and NTL to be able to do this or can i just unplug it ake it to another room where the PC is ?

No it doesn't need to be connected to the feed. It's advisable if you are flashing it using the menus to have it connected to a TV lol.

But if you're using the Dreamup and null modem cable method then you don't need a tv or cable feed.

Direct connection will be fine mate. :)
