hi there,

my three year old hp notebook (dv 6870 eg) has no Spdif - out for digital audio, only hdmi which is not compatible with my marantz amplifier.

But i realized the original docking station has.
Looks like the signal should exist on the hp expansion port.

I cant find any possibility to connect to this port by additional hardware (something like a simple adaptor).

Does anybody know a simple way to use a digital audio output on this notebook??

The HP-Hotline told me that it is not possible, but they didn't even tell me something about the docking station.... :o(

Thanx so far...

Does it mention in the manual how to get this to work.

Options I can think of:
- USB sound card (with spdif output)
- HDMI Splitter (that may split to a the conneciton you need)

Notes from the Manual only refer to HDMI:
Important audio settings
For best results, when you connect an audio or video device, such as a high-definition TV, to the HDMI
port on your computer, follow these guidelines:
● Use QuickPlay as your software application.
● Set S/PDIF (Sony/Philips Digital Interface) as your default audio playback device.
Otherwise, you may hear audio only through your computer speakers, not through the audio or video
device.
To set S/PDIF as your default audio playback device, follow these steps:
1. Select Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound icon.
2. Select the Playback tab.
3. Select S/PDIF Interface > Set Default, and then click OK.
4. Start QuickPlay (or restart it if it is already running), and you should hear audio on your device.
