I have an spare ECU I want to able to use in my Smart Roadster. A guy building race cars told me that they always remove a chip in the ECUs that contains the VIN-code (the cars identity), by doing that they could change ECU between the race if they needed. Is that possible with my spare ECU? I have attached some pictures of the ECU, don't know if it helps.

you need a eeprom programmer and a flash tool for this job
the vin is in a pic 24c02 near the flash

Should I erase the eeprom or reprogram it with the VIN from the original ECU?
Can you mark it out for me in the picture?

Thank you for marking it out for me!! But you need to explain what you mean with "change the line". Do I need to change the VIN with the VIN from the original ECU?

Yes mate
You only need change the line 030 with VIN from your car (Orginal VIN) and make key adaptation With Star Diagnosis
Or you can read Pic 24c02 from original ECU and Write it in Spare ECU.

If you dont have skills read the entire contect of 24c02 and programme it in the 24c02 of the spare you have.
It is easier for you and will work perfect.
WSC is right, do it and it will work 100%
Regards to all.

HI!
Is it a solution desoldering the original chip 24c02 and solder it in the spare ECU in the place of the similar chip?
I read this method on ebay...

thank you for all!
