View Full Version : Revs drop below 500 when changing gear?

Hi folks,

Wonder if anyone has an idea about this.

When I change down a gear, or put clutch down, the revs drop below 500 and the car labours like mad and when I'm stopping it cuts out if I don't get the clutch up quick enough and get the revs up.

Volvo C70 2.4L (non-turbo) 1999

I don't want to put it into a garage and have them rub their chin at it then rape me up the ass with bullshit! ;)

It's recently had a 100,000 mile service and a new battery.

Cheers

does the clutch slip?

No, clutch is fine.

If I'm in 4th and then drop the clutch it falls to below 500 revs and if I don't catch it, it cuts out and I need to bump start it.

sound like the Ventura is coked up m8 ,, it needs a good cleanup , the ventura is the bit after the air filter where the accelerator cable goes m8 . remove the plastic tube going to it and clean with brake cleaner m8

im no expert, but it sounds like a fuel problem, or maybe the timing is out? does the car tick over ok when started without having to use accelorator to much?

Thanks smirnoff m8, I'm not that good with cars but the wifes dad is so I'll tell him what you said.

Thanks clit, it starts fine, first time, every time, no need to accelerator.

Maybe a synchromesh issue? Or the Idle Air Control Valve? I had something similar happen with my Honda Prelude and it turned out the IACV adjustment screw was missing altogether =s

hi , dont want to be a scare monger but vollies did have a lot of trouble with there throttle bodies failing (the butterfly for opening and closing the throttle), could be worth volvo having a look, just give them half hour diagnostic, then when they give you the answer either fix yourself or find a volvo specialist. These parts are about ?700 +. If volvo diag this wrong then they will have to fix it.
