Hi all

My g/f wants to update her tomtom, and has asked me to sort it for her..

So is there anything i need to find out from her tomtom before i download anything?, model no's etc etc

And as far as updating im assuming its a relativly straightforward procedure after linking tomtom to computer?

any advise would be cool

thx all

I maybe wrong here, so others please feel free to correct me if I am..

Ideally you'll need to know which model she has if your wanting to update maps which I assume you are:
i.e. Are the maps saved to SD Card or has it got a built in HD where maps are stored

Make Sure You Back Up Your TomTom :)

Finally make sure you got the product key for your tomtom and you manage to get one for the one you download as you wont be able to activate the maps without this for the new maps.

Good Luck

you would need device name app/navcore version and ram size, if you have tomtom with you tap bottom right of screen then version info should be there
what do you want to do just update maps or navcore or both

Chimaera: First identify and make a note of which unit you have, then you should download a program called "TomTom HOME" from their website TomTom, portable GPS car navigation systems (http://www.tomtom.com/services/?Lid=1) There is a list of models on their page that you can use it with. Then connect to your computer via the USB dock that came with the unit. This will identify and connect to your TomTom, and enable you to do all you require, and more! If there are any questions, TomTom will be able to answer them. Its the way I do it, with complete success.

need to know app/navcore version tt is using first, then you can check map compatability chart.

your navcore should be 7.903 if updated through tomtom home i think, so you want map uk & roi 850.2820 which is latest map for your tomtom model

it looks like you got navcore 8.010, if you just want map you need uk & roi 850.2820 which is the latest map.

iam confused now, map 855.2884 & map 855.2931 are different maps.
map .2884 will not work on your navcore 8.10 but map .2931 will, so if you have the 2931 you can use it.

you can use map 855.2931 if you like, if it is what it say's it is, or map above.

then you need to do the following to patch map :

1 delete old map fromm tt

2 copy new map folder United Kingdom & Republic of Ireland to root of sd card

Digital Kaos > Downloads ? Satellite
3 download this FastActivate_04.08.2010_Premium_edition_v1.4

4 download this speed cams 25/08/10 open file & copy Safety_Cam_UK_Premium.ov2,Safety_Cam_UK_PremiumOv2 .ver 2 files to your map folder

5 Copy "FastActivate.exe" to your sd card root directory and Run "FastActivate.exe" clickupdate metatxt, when done run map then ttsystem patcher

remove sd card from reader pop in tt

done

Alright chim, did you say your tomtom has a SD card slot m8?

If so, you can leave your original stuff untouched on the internal memory and just put a separate navcore and map on a SD card.
You MAY have to up your bootloader if you want to use a card bigger than 2gb, or a SDHC card. But be careful with bootloaders coz they are pretty much irreversible.

It's pretty easy, and certainly to a man of your calibre. If you see me on facebook or here I will guide you thru.

iam confused now, map 855.2884 & map 855.2931 are different maps.
map .2884 will not work on your navcore 8.10 but map .2931 will, so if you have the 2931 you can use it.

As taximan says Chim, 855.2884 will not work with your navcore, you need at least 8.2xx navcore.
855.2931 will work with pretty much any navcore, but if is not feature rich, ie no lane guidance, speech recognition (if it would work on a one)

But as I said in the last post, if you have a separate card slot, then you can put on a navcore to suit, I can find you a 8.4xx that I have used in other tomtom ones. And you will then run your card separate to the internal memory.

No mate. Explore your TT in windows. You will have a map folder at about 200Mb, and the rest of your navcore at maybe 200Mb ish.
Make a full back up using windows, ensuring all hidden folders and files are enabled.
Click properties of your TT device and see how much free space there is. You will need 160Mb for your 855.2931 map.
You will probably find (if it is a 512Mb device) there isn't enough room to fit the map, so delete the old map (you have a back-up right?)
Make a new folder called 'tomtom' on your root. Put in this folder
1 Your new map
2 My Meta Digital Kaos - Downloads - meta.txt (http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/downloads/satellite/13/meta-txt-1335/)
3 Keygen tool Digital Kaos - Downloads - Easy activator (http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/downloads/satellite/13/easy-activator-1109/)
4 a copy of your ttgo.bif file. (or open your ttgo.bif with notepad and jot down the Device ID AN4LL ASH0L).

Run the keygen to make dct file. Inputting everything it asks for. And everything is in your 'tomtom' folder.

Bobs your uncle... hopefully.

for 2884 to run on your sat nag, you need at least navcore 8.2xx. What are you running?

taximan

navcore is the app your tomtom is using, tap tt screen bottom right, then version. then let use know app No.

better still connect tt to pc and in exployer locate tt drive, then r click on file ttgo file /properties then change to open file in notepad. then copy & paste details in post.
