Spent most of the day yesterday messing around with 5 dm800's, mainly to swap over rev J \ K tuners with the L3 tuner.
What I noticed was that on some of the 800's i changed, the boxes would reboot soon after the boot screen. At first I thought the tuners were not sitting correctly, so I double checked and tried again and same problem.
So i thought maybe could be a sim issue and tried 69\70\2.01, same problem. So then i thought could be image problem, tried gemini, dreamelite and PLI, same problem. By now I'm thinking ok i got some faulty L3 tuners, So I pulled out my main 800 clone that I had put a L3 tuner in back in May and tested it and tried the tuners, they all boot and work fine. ( more about that at the end).
I then went back tried the L3's in the boxes and same thing, constant reboot, so I put the rev J tuner in the boxes and they boot fine, no problem. Weighing up everything I could only come to the conclusion that the mainboard was the problem. So I opend up all 5 boxes and noted all 5 said Revision J on the mainboard. 3 of the 5 boxes would keep rebooting and 2 were fine with the L3. I did note however that the 2 that booted fine had fan pins in different locations to the 3 that didnt. The 2 that booted fine had the fan pin just above the heat sink, where as the 3 I had problems with had the pins by the internal usb slot. I have stuck two photos up of the boards. Hope this is of help. L3GOOD being the board that worked with it.

BTW. this L3 tuner rumour that it fixes the Discovery HD glitch seems to be untrue !! Tried at least 6 different houses with various boxes all with the same result, including changing the echo number.

Thanks

A suggestion.... try fitting decoupling capacitors across the fan wires... 100N or 100uf 16V . See if that cures the problem..

I disconnect the fans as default as they tend to sound like helicopters after a week or so, and use laptop coolers instead.

No problem mate, I did some more testing this morning tweaking the lnb and still no joy (using promax tv explorer). From reading various forums and other responses, this L3 tuner fix is definitely vaporware with the odd exception. That and the different mainboard variations I would definitely suggest people save their money.

was there any improvement in HD stability with the boxes that were able to use the l3 tuner mate

Currently got a modded revk , with long run of cable to dish 30+ metre , and gettin slight breakup/glitch on HD ,

many thanks

Noticed no difference at all tbh. All HD chans with the REV J\K seem to be stable except the for the 12324.00 V frequency

Right the L3 tuner has about 5 revisions latest revisions have major faults, and main board has now changed from rev J in cloned to rev L.. the faulty L3 tuners that are not working with in-line amp are from 6/2010 to mid 7/2010 this is direct from ukdreamshop guy so for those buying clones be careful and buy from a reliable source that has tested them with the in-line amp to make sure no problems with hd, i'e the guy that told me this info..!!

Anyway of finding out from the tuner when they were manufactured. I see no markings or dates on the board other than rev L3

I have the same problem on my clone, so I bought a Tuner REV L3, because I have read in here that this would help on my freezing. So I installed the REV L3 on my clone 800, but it rebooted and rebooted no matter what I did. Ok, it must have been a defect tuner i got, so I bought another new tuner Rev L3, but this one had the same problem. So now I have my old tuner installed and still have a lot of freezing and I have 2 tuner Rev L3 for sale, if anyone wants to buy them.

Just a quick update. Received some 800's from Tony today, which have the rev L main board as well as L3 tuner, and all chans including Disc HD, Disney etc are glitch free. Box came with 2.01 BL 76A, Gemini 5.1 image. Will experiment later with these Tuners that did not work on my original tests.

too many variables to suggest a certain tuner glitches or doesnt glitch , for instance length of cable run , quality of cable , quality of lnb , dish size , signal strength , etc , therefore what may glitch for one setup may be perfectly glitch free on another persons setup ,

For anybody thinking of replacing tuners ,from my experience, your best chance of glitch free HD dm800 is to speak to bubbles , as his supplier seems pretty up to date on latest revs in the tuners scene

If you can solder you would be better off doing the fix you get for the rev j/k tuners rather than wasting ?30 or more on a new tuner, you could sort your one and stop the glitching for less than ?3.

Could be numerous things mate. Overheating is commonplace with these tuners, so foremost I would check that the box has enough room for ventilation. I would recommend a usb fan or cheap notebook cooler. Could also be the tuner, these REV L3 versions are very poor. The new REV M ive been testing seem to work in every model mainboard. good luck.

I have to say that isn't the case. Since I did the testing on theses boards, the new REV M has model fixed every problem the L3 had. Boots from all sims and images. The L3 tuners I had were tried in a variety of scenarios and the result was always the same. In fact if anyone has 5 rev J tuners, Id be happy to exchange them for L3's.

Finally, I replace the L3 tuner, my new k tuner solve this problem, now boot fine.

The L3 tunner I think is of bad quality.

If you only just bought you should have a new version the dm800 pro, there will be a sticker/hologram saying dm800pro on the box.. if not the seller has been naughty and sold you a old box that he knew has problems

Tuner DVB-S2 BSBE2-801A for DM800HD PRO Latest (PRO REV M) satellite - ukdreamshop (http://ukdreamshop.co.uk/product.php?id_product=62)

?45.59 delivered...Quite pricey these are 28 quid delivered from the China suppliers...even less if you buy in bulk.

But you do have to wait for delivery..and have hassle if you have a damaged or faulty tuner and have to send it back to China..

Still seems steep when a complete DM800 PRO reciever with Rev M Tuner can be sourced for 130 quid delivered...and your paying nearly 50 quid for just a tuner !

As long as your dish alignment and cabling is good and you dont have any low signal issues, then yes you should not have any HD glitching issues on the New DM800 Pro units with Rev M tuners.
