Now type in :- loadb 120000 115200

You will get the following message

## SWITCH Baud rate to 115200 bps and press ENTER

in Hyperterminal stop the connection
Call -> Disconnect),
click File -> Properties ->
change the Bits per second to 115200.
Click on ok and leave the menus.
Reconnect with Call -> Call on top of the hyperterminal window.
Press enter on keyboard.

you should now see this command : - ready for binary (kermit) download to 0x00120000 at 115200 bps
http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff308/aftermath_0377/pic11.png

NOW TO TRANSFER THE IMAGE.

On top of hyperterminal window click on Transfer then send file,
Choose your image (image without bootloader)
Then choose the "kermit" protocol.
Click on send.

you will get a screen something like this.
http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff308/aftermath_0377/pic12-1.png
This will take about 45 minutes.
Hyperterminal shows the transfer process inside a extra window.

After transfer u-boot announces
## totally Size = 0x007E0000 = 8257536 bytes
## start ADDR = 0x00120000
## SWITCH Baud rate to 9600 bps and press ESC

Hyper Terminal has been removed in vista.

there is a different version in Vista, but ive never tried it yet, so hopefully someone will try it and PM me if it works or not.

But if you click on Start/All programmes/Accsesories/Command Prompt

then type in winrs /?

this is supposed to take over from the old Hyper terminal, just follow posts 1 and 2 using that.

EDIT : download a programme called puTTY here (http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html) , give that a try.

hi aftermath my first time ever never seen as dbox2 before lol
followed your guide worked perfectly first time only thing is i seem to have installed a german image
little question do you have to load u boot every time or just once
i would like to thank you for making my life easier you the man

Fergal
10th October, 2008, 09:27 PM
If you have a ethernet crossover cable you can flash it using a ftp proggy to transfer the image to the /tmp folder on the box and use the dbox menu's to flash it
or you can use IFA to flash it you dont need the uboot file with either of these procedures plus it only takes about 5 minutes to do.

Just a quick follow-up to say It Worked! Even though I got a "Bad Magic Number" error message it didn't seem to matter.

Saved my ass here after a flash by ftp crashed half-way through last night leaving me with a dead dbox :)

Thanks for this guide, it worked a treat.

Just one point seeing as you have held our hand all the way through this.

At the end, once hyper terminal says done, it might be worth pointing out that you restart the dbox just incase like me:embarassed: you think the box is going to reboot by itselflol

This is in no way any criticism as without this guide I would have been up sh1t creek.

This is a great tut man. The crossover cable wouldnt work for me for some reason. I dont know much German but I'm pretty sure it told me I was using an active firewall which I definitely wasnt.

Posting now in an attempt to download the uboot file required. Having troubles.

Sorry I never joined these boards sooner.

Also, if laky pro was the best image last time round, is the new laky the best idea? Cheers

Hi, I followed all of the steps and when it had finished everything it said "copy to fash... done" on Hyperterminal. I then unplugged everything and on the LCD display on my Dbox2 it says "loading kernel" and it has been saying that for ages. What do I do???

If after reboot its still saying that, try re-flashing the box with a freshly downloaded image. there may have been an issue with the image you flashed.

also it takes about 2-5 mins to say flash done or whatever it is supposed to say.

If your box as gone into klein system and will not boot up then you need this program>>>>>>>>>>>Digital Kaos - Downloads - Image Flashing assistant (http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/downloads/others/7/image-flashing-assistant-506/) this will refresh your image just follow the guide from post 1 that should sort you out.

Have you tried flashing a different image as this might be corrupt. I don't know much about boot logs as i use just a xover cable. Are you sure the image is fine?

Hi there,

I recently tried this and the mistake I was during the 'transfer file' part. Make sure you are using the correct transfer protocol. One file you need to transfer as 'text file' and the other as 'file'

Hope this makes sense.

Don't think it matters. It greys out when you select your com port.

part 2.

now type in dl 800000 . Then press enter

you should see this : S Record Load, offset: 800000

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff308/aftermath_0377/pic7.png

Download the attached u-boot.mot file

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff308/aftermath_0377/pic8-1.png

Next click on Transfer on top of hyperterminal window, select "send text file", select type of file "All files",
select the file u-boot.mot (attached here) and click on "open" to start the transfer.
The file transfer take about 5 minutes and in hyperterminal no announcement appears about the process of the transfer.

You will now need to type in the following command and hit enter.
This will start the u-boot file we just transferred.
As this is starting it will try get a network connection, as we do not want this, we need to break out of it. You do this by holding down the control key on your keyboard and pressing the ?C? key at the same time. This needs to be done before 3 attempts at the connection. You will be returned to the command prompt again. So type the following command.

chorus 800000

Keep control key pressed when its trying to connect to the network and press the ?C? key and you will be returned to the command prompt. NOTE: the command prompt has changed a little bit and now looks like =>
This is normal :>)
should see a screen something like this.

http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff308/aftermath_0377/pic10.png

Now type in :- loadb 120000 115200

You will get the following message

## SWITCH Baud rate to 115200 bps and press ENTER

in Hyperterminal stop the connection
Call -> Disconnect),
click File -> Properties ->
change the Bits per second to 115200.
Click on ok and leave the menus.
Reconnect with Call -> Call on top of the hyperterminal window.
Press enter on keyboard.

you should now see this command : - ready for binary (kermit) download to 0x00120000 at 115200 bps
http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff308/aftermath_0377/pic11.png

NOW TO TRANSFER THE IMAGE.

On top of hyperterminal window click on Transfer then send file,
Choose your image (image without bootloader)
Then choose the "kermit" protocol.
Click on send.

you will get a screen something like this.
http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff308/aftermath_0377/pic12-1.png
This will take about 45 minutes.
Hyperterminal shows the transfer process inside a extra window.

After transfer u-boot announces
## totally Size = 0x007E0000 = 8257536 bytes
## start ADDR = 0x00120000
## SWITCH Baud rate to 9600 bps and press ESC

in Hyperterminal stop the connection
Call -> Disconnect),
Click File -> Properties -> Configure and change the Bits per second to 9600. Click on ok and leave the menu.
Reconnect with Call ->
Call on top of the hyperterminal window.
Press ESC on the pc keyboard
u-boat prompt appears again "= >"
Type in .
protect off 10020000 107fffff
Press enter then type in
erase 10020000 107fffff
Press enter then type in
cp.l 120000 10020000 1F8000
Wait untill it says Done.
The procedure take about 2 minutes.

just out of curiosity..why is this method better compared to using a cross over cable?

Null Modem (RS232) method of flashing is supposed to be safer than using crossover (RJ45) methods, though faster.

We do not support modding CC equipment it is against the rules.

A Dbox is not VM equipment but an old box which can run Linux, which then can be programmed to recieve / decrypt channels.

Welcome to DK Tasker :) Do you need to flash the box this way ? This is a last resort TBH. Have you tried IFA ? Have a read m8, there are quicker ways too flash the box than this method.

Make sure you are doing it exactly as the tut says
NOTE: All of the following is case sensitive. Make sure you take note of the case!

Type in the following and hit the enter key on your keyboard:

dl 800000 (the l is a lowercase L)

You should now get the following message returned in the command window.

S record load, offset: 800000

You will not get the command prompt back at this point; it will just be stating that message above. At this point you need to click on “Transfer” from the menus at the top of the hyper terminal. In the drop down list click on “Send Text File”

You will now get a browse window to find a file. Change the ‘Type of file’ to be “All Files” from the drop down list at the bottom. You now need to navigate to the place you extracted this guide to as it also come with the files you need. So when you have navigated to the correct place, click on U-BOOT.MOT then click on open. It will now start to transfer. This will take about 5 minuets and will not show any information about it on the HyperTerminal. After about 5 minuets when it has completed, you will get the following message on the HyperTerminal and be returned to the command prompt.

DL: start ADDRESS 0x800000

Try this uboot file

NOTE: All of the following is case sensitive. Make sure you take note of the case!

Type in the following and hit the enter key on your keyboard:

dl 800000 (the l is a lowercase L)

You should now get the following message returned in the command window.

S record load, offset: 800000

You will not get the command prompt back at this point; it will just be stating that message above. At this point you need to click on ?Transfer? from the menus at the top of the hyper terminal. In the drop down list click on ?Send Text File?

You will now get a browse window to find a file. Change the ?Type of file? to be ?All Files? from the drop down list at the bottom.

I think I need that file too.
I have a dbox2 (Nokia 2xIntel) and it stuck at enigma boot picture. I have to give a try to flash with a null modem cable, since it doesn't want to communicate via ftp. :s:

So please, someone help me to get that uboot.mot file.
Thanks.

I have IFA, but as I said there's no communication via lan.
So I would like to give a try to the "nul modem cable only" method. That's why I need that u-boot.mot file, but I can't find anywhere to download.
Please help me to get that file.
Thanks
