Basically yes. You'll need a mounting adapter so that it can fit in a standard bay and then appropriate connection adapters.
such as: http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/3518318/Hard-Disk-Drive-HDD-2-5-to-3-5-Mounting-Kit-Brackets/Product.html
There's also the ide/sata issue, but I'll let you do your own research on that.

if it's a sata drive (which it should be if it's a modern laptop) it'll work just fine with your computer (assuming it has sata also). Physically mounting it in the case might be an issue, but electrically everything is fine. The main exceptions are the 1.8" drives, which need an adapter for the power cable.
Even with IDE, it's just a matter of finding the right adapter for power/data.

He's wanting to put it in a PC m8. That's more suitable for external use.

I recently had this problem and sort it with SATA cable that cost me in the store about 2euros. You can do this. Just go to the store and explain your problem.

A USB adapter, just like the type in the caddies, can be used internally. Most boards have an internal USB connection.
There's also removable drive bays that could be useful.

You'd be sacrificing speed.
SATA has a better transfer rate than USB2, and, although on paper USB2 is quicker than IDE, in the real world on an internal connection, IDE is faster.

I have this from Ebay, it works well, but when you use 3,5" HDD or sata you need AC adapter. 2,5" HDD works out of adapter.
I have used a PC adapter from my old PC.

I bought an IDE/SATA hard drive enclosure when my laptop crashed. I was able to save everything from my laptop to pc. I only used it to save my life, not as storage.

as yet, we don't know if it's sata or ide. Sata is easier internally between drive sizes, but I just use them as external storage & backup drives

check your hdd specs sata/ide like the other peeps said
check if your case can hold 2.5 hd's securely and safely if not theres an external option
use a dock more simple and effective than the cable and keeps it safe accepts 2.5/3.5 hd's and 1/2 sata supported
