Yes m8, i was interested in that also, but sadly it was in Automotive software which sadly has gone for now. If you could give detailed review when you get it and try it that would be great.

Much thanks obd.

Communicates fine with everything I have tried it on but only generic as all the pcms were not supported US models. I purchased it only to learn more as I have IDS already.

OK, what about software? Does it need registration or device is enough like dongle? Device when installed, does it create Virtual Com-Port or everything goes over FTD2XX.DLL?

They said that the interface has an serial to activated and you can install it on every pc you want using same serial.
The interface seems to be elm327 based but it is different that chinese clone.
That's what they told me.
And the upgrading you can do it from their web site using that serial withou any password.
If Fordracer4life wants to share this sw will be ok we will figure it out how it works and what it can do.
Good luck

Thanks to Fordracer4life I can tell that it dosen't work with a normal elm327 interface. the driver is the same but the inetrface it is different.
The sw it dosen't seen it.
The original one has an serial for activation and how i said in a post before you can install it on everycomputer using the interface like a dongle (ipejasinovic said that in post before) and need the interface serial to activate the softwear.
Good luck

Hmm, solution can be done, but not pretty but who cares. One software must be created between FoCom and basic ELM device, something like virtual com port with application to convert and create missing commands. One proper port log could be enough.

I tried to pop the interface open today to take a picture but it seemed like it was gonna break. Would it be possible to add a serial number to a clone elm or do you think there is a hardware diffrence.

Please try to read it with MProg and share the file.

No need to open. Difference is noticeable for sure. What I saw without device are new commands to device and also speed of communication with device.

What we need is one full com port log with all functions tried, from registration to reading DTCs etc..., then we can make some software layout to avoid differences of normal ELM327.

I used it on a few more modules and found the coding function is never available even on the supported ecus listed. I read all the instructions and it states a additional licence is reguired to use coding function. I did not see any mention of this on the web site.

They don't mentioned this but let you to understand.
This is from they web site:FoCOM (http://www.obdtester.com/focom)
Key features
?Support for wide range of ECUs and models (ECU selection screenshot)
?Easy connection via smart USB to OBD2 interface
?Wide range of communication protocols and buses covered: J1850 PWM, ISO, CAN
?Automatic ECU recognition
?Automatic vehicle scan (screenshot)
?ECU Identification (screenshot)
?Fault code (DTC) reading (screenshot)
?Fault code clearing
?Measured vaules / live data (first, second and third screenshot)
?Live data recording
?Diagnostic protocol printing
?Actuator tests (screenshot)
?Control unit coding (screenshot)
?PATS Immobilizer operations (timed & coded using PATScode.com) And if you need to PATSCode you'll see that you need a licence for that.

No, it is an interface based on ELM327 but it is different than a chinese clone one.

Maybe best way to say is: FoCom uses it's own interface, but communication between interface and PC is very similar like communication between ELM327 based interface and PC.

Nice
And did you could dowload?
It is just for that guys who purchased the FOCOM, you need the interface S/N to dowload, no password need it.
By the way I have it thanks to one of our forum mate but it is unusefull without dedicated interface ( based on ELM327 chip).
Good luck
P.S. BTW if you have the password to download please downlaod for me this softwear

I must say the software has locked up my laptop at least ten times to the point of having to power down manually to get any where and I have not used it a whole lot. When first installing it the first thing that pops up is that it is not windows tested or approved. I think you would be better off spending the money and buy a vcm clone or not.

M8, do you have more information on this extra license, is it just the incode outcode license

PATS Code Main Page - PATS (immobilizer) INCODE authorization for Ford and Mazda cars (http://www.patscode.com/en/index)

or is there more because here it says, you can do coding?

Q: Can FoCOM perform key (immobilizer, PATS) learning? (http://www.obdtester.com/faq/focom-ford-mazda/can-focom-perform-key-immobilizer,-pats-learning)

So, if i read this thread good enough. You say, that VCM is a better offer than FoCOM and it does not work with for example an Elm SCAN 5 (including Elm 320,323,327)?!? Right? Because i was looking for FoCOM several hours and found nothing. Was would me cost a china cloned VCM IDS? Where can i get it cheap?
Greetings from Bavaria Germany

Just thought id bring up old thread and ask fordracerforlife or anyone else. How is this tool going as it really does appeal to me as i have not got good coverage of ford at the moment and really dont want to buy a CLONE FORD IDS from china, cause at the moment im cured of china clones. And i dont want to buy original IDS as too expensive.

Many thanks

FoCom is an interface based on ELM327 but it is diffrent and preatty new.
If you need this sw you need the genuine interface too.
Well the easyest way is to buy it..... at least for now.
Good luck

I mailed them today, with questions about programming/flashing and if there are enhanced licenses available/needed

Got this reply:

some of expert functions (e.g. PATS) are in basic version, some(e.g.Flash) in enhacement.
*
Flash programming *
For flash programming you need

1/ a new interface with wider functionality, which will be available in
January.

2/ enhancement version of FoCom, this enhancement version with new
interface will cost around about 785EUR.
If you have old FoCom already, upgrade including new interface and
enhancement software will cost 785-255=530EUR.

Best regards

Thanks for that dutchguy, why do these firms try to decieve us, there is no mention of this on there website.

Im in the market for some good ford stuff , so its either between clone IDS or wait and see if this new interface is out on time in jan2010, (next week),

Bet its not.:pcguru:

I'm agre with you.
Look in the ToCom or FiCom or others interface they said that will be on market in December this year. Did you saw them on market? I don't think so.
Well I suppose we have to wait much more time for that interface.
Good luck and see you in 2011.
X-mas regards and happy new year

I need a interface for diagnose but not a chinese VCM clone.
Thank you.
