If you have tried another speedo then it's computer issue or sensor issue.
Could be plenty of issues, dead driver wheel speed sensor, dying DSC module, or bad ribbon/cable. Your best bet is trying to replace the speed sensor on the car, however it might be hard to find for a E31.

hi
read faults (complete car)- inpa or gt1.
most probably another module caused this fault - if diag it's not working try to disconect one module(relevant to intrument cluster) at the time.
look in wds for instrument cluster and conections but choose the right model (year) !!! - see link

never have been good with diagrams
also in display it says "EEEE" not error
im wondering its something to do with the Body control module, where is that located?
maybe it cud be a fuse? also i cudnt find any blown fuses
very confusing this 1

if it is not fuse, then it must be sensor. it's quite popular for the e31 acutally. I remember reading about it on a bmw forum.

hi
Body control module ...A25 ... go to "component location chart" and then to "component location views" and look for A25 (ZKE- Body control module)
the conectors are marked with "X" and u can search for them in the same way.
have fun and good luck!

hi
read faults ... may point u in the right direction.
looks like a bus fault caused from another module or a wire problem.
disconect all modules except for instruments and motor...one by one.
have fun!
P.S.
car is a e31 - model? year?

Oh!
1) Hope you didn't pay for your currant avitar, it's paants
2) Suggest you get an owners manueal for it, and check every fuse 10 times - possable 3 fuses boxes!!??
3) A car like that will be a) Very easy fix b) Total bastard, nothing in between
4) Check for 'high reistance positive connection in the fuse box area' - blown fuse
4) Check for 'OPEN CIRCUIT positive connection in the fuse box area' -missing fuse
5) If the customer looks like Arther Daily, mentions horse or greyhound racing, smells of cigar smoke, mentions the tax man had him for 50K last year, says he can't read or write - TELL THE BLOKE IT WILL HAVE TO GO TO THE DEALER http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2008/07/31/article-0-033E31DC0000044D-146_224x423.jpg
6) As it's before 2000 but suggest you count the number of WIRES on the
head, count the number of inputs and decide if you can 'work' out
what it's got
Think if it's '95 think YouTube - Pulp - Disco 2000 (7' Mix)
