Just got my 500hd today and decided to flash it with
dreamlite for this model. It seemed to be flashing not
the green lights on and nothing else happening. Tried
3 versions of dreamup but even though i have the
correct ip ect its not connecting.

Now i googled it and i'm surprised the amount of users
who have had the same problem and ended up sending
it back.

I've read a few posts here and tried a few things but
its just staying green. The dreamup connection was
no problem with the null cable but i just set the usb
as i would the null.

Breifly....do i send it back and blame it on a plugin or
try and fix and hope it holds out, i'm sick with this after
only getting it today.

Thanks.

dont send it back saying it was a bad plugin as thats a lie, why not just ask the seller how to fix it?

Dude i'm not looking for advice on the things i do in
life and how i should behave in life, i'm looking for advice
on how to get a receiver going if u follow.

I've now read this has happened while flashing and while
d/l and installing plugins...just try dreamup again but
after trying 3 different versions i dont hold out much hope.

would say just fix it as you knew the risks of flashing it and
if you send it back saying its down to a bad plugin then would that not be a lie ?

Flashing DM500HD with dreamup - what you should be aware of

NOTE: Normally I would not flash using dreamup; use a browser like with the DM600:
a. Switch of DM500HD, press the front switch and hold while powering on.
b. Connect with a browser to the DHCP supplied IP.

But if the box has been flashed with a bad image, use dreamup as follows.

The DM500HD does not have a serial port. It has a mini USB port instead. When using dreamup, it expects to use a COM port to set the box in flash mode. This had me confused for a bit as the DreamMultimedia website did not have any explanation of how to get around this problem.
1. On the off-chance something might happen, I connected the mini USB (dreambox) to a USB port on my PC and got 'new hard found DM500HD'. I then let it install the software for the 'new hardware', which was reported as a 'composite device' with nothing in the name to indicate it was a dreambox. I let it go through all the installing software rubbish until it said ' new hard is installed succesfully'.
2. Connect your dreambox to the LAN - FLASHING USING THE SERIAL(USB) CONNECTION DOES NOT WORK But you have to have the USB also connected to use dreamup.
3. I switched off the dreambox.
4. I then opened dreamup and a new COM port had appeared (COM15). I selected this COM15 and clicked 'connect' at which point dreamup wanted me to switch on the dreambox.
4a. Tick the box 'Network Connection' and set up the correct IP addresses.
5. Switch on the dreambox. It will now upload the flash loader to the dreambox - wait.
6. Click 'Flash' and select the image you want to flash. Then wait until it reports it has completed flashing.

If the network does not connect for some reason, then you will get an error 'Bad Request 400' in the dreamup window. This will happen anytime you try to flash using only the USB connection. Remember to tick the box 'Use network' in dreamup.

First of all Do not flash with Dream-Elite use Gemini 5.0 or 5.1 follow this to recover your Dreambox.

1. Connect with DreamUP 1.3.3.6- use both miniUSB and network cable, make sure the IPs are configured.

2. Switch on dm500hd while holding the Standby button and flash an image of your choice- I recommend original 2.8.4 or Gemini 5.0 just to be on the safe side.

3. After succesful flash, do not yet switch off!!! Light is still green; hold Standby button for ~5 seconds + press the button a couple more times with short presses + hold for some more seconds. In total you should spend at least 15 seconds fondling the Standby button, lol!

4. Now switch off dreambox, unplug the miniusb cable and then replug it.

5. Fire up Hyperterminal, switch on the box and see it boot up, resurrected from the Green Light of Death! After this you should be safe to flash with any image again, using normal methods.

This will kick your Dreambox back into Life (Might take a few trys untill you get it right) stay away from 3rd party Images (Dream-Elite have serious Issues on the 500HD), as there understanding of the new architecture used by Dream-Multimedia differs from all other Linux E2 receivers.

7am.......days holiday planned for...well seem to have it
up and running again. Dreamup would not recognise the
dm untill i d/l this http://http://www.silabs.com/products/mcu/pages/usbtouartbridgevcpdrivers.aspx
without this driver i had only 1 com port on dreamup then
when i installed this i had 2 and dreamup worked, flashed
the gemini image and have it so far back up and running.
I am using winxp sp3 and as said the above driver helped
with dreamup.

I will post later on how it goes.

Apologise for my earlier harsh comments.
