Hi guys,

I have a problem with my vagcom 704. We accidentally upgraded to the new version and it killed it.

Now, I tried the method where you edit the inf file add %USB\VID_xxxx&PID_xxxx.DeviceDesc%=FTD2XX, USB\VID_xxxx&PID_xxxx etc etc

However, when it's supposed to be detected by the system (windows xo), it says that something is wrong with the inf file and the driver cannot be installed.

I double checked everything in the inf file and every entry and is correct.

How do I proceed from here?

Do I have to program the atmel chip on my programmer? Anyone knows the exact steps as the thread I found in here does not have any instructions.

Thanks in advance
George

First you download new drivers from ftdi web site, then change vid-pid values in all 3 inforation files in all places! Then update driver thru device maneger, if everything is ok, then program interface with correct .ept file with Mprog. And yes you will have to programm Atmega too.

Try to install on other pc or laptop. Maybe you have problem with windows. If you cant install virtual serial port drivers you cant programm ftdi eeprom. Then try to erase 93c46 with eeprom programmer.

I tried on 3 different pcs running XP,Vista and Win 7.

Same problem everytime.

Do I have to completely erase the serial eprom?

Unless I am not doing something correct with the inf file.

I followed the instructions already found on the net. Adding two lines under ftdihw and at the end of the inf file.

Send me inf files on PM I can check, and Vid/pid numbers of interface.
Maby its problem in eeprom but I doubt it, when I have similar problem I just erase him or put new one.

After reading your post again, I think you did not write vid/pid in all 3. .inf files (one is .ini) , or am I wrong?

What 3 files?

I have only edited the inf file. Do I have to edit the dll and sys as well? When I open with notepad I don't see data I can change. Only garbage that don't look like ascii

In my case it's RT-USB.xxx

No my Friend you must download usb- serial port emulator drivers from ftdi website and then chage vid pid numbers in information files of that driver you downloaded, and then install that driver for interface, when the driver is installed you can erase or program interface with mprog or ftprog or some other soft.

If it was 704 polish version of soft or any other and you use newer software it is not enough to rewrite info in ftdi, because it is very probable that soft changes content of atmega. You will need to reprogram it. I had the same, so I know a little bit...

Update:

The drivers from ftdi site contain 2 inf files which I edit with the necessary info.

Same result as before. Unable to load the driver for this device.

I attached a few screen shots to help find the solution.

Use vidpidfix.exe to reset the lead.

Then use MProg to reprogramme.

Guys,

I am looking for the 704.1 ept file.

I don't want to upgrade to 908. I just want to make it work.

Anyone?

I passed the drivers problem with UDFixer.

I am able to program using Mpog but I don't want to be bothered with programming the atmel etc for newer version.

Here is all you need. I repaired dead interface 2 years ago with Ponyprog.
