have a look underneath ecu m8, see if theres a multi function relay, these are prone for failure and dont log fault codes.
if you have pp2000 go into bsi, if multifunction relay faulty, sometimes in bsi fault codes there is a fault saying no communication to engine ecu intermittent because the ecu isnt powering up due to relay.

yes m8, they just plug in.
Even if they have one depends on year and engine code and engine management system aswell m8
later 206 dont have them m8, early ones do.

agree with obdmaster.
M-H-M had one same shit diff day, we was 90% sure under bonnet fuse box (later one)
*THINK* If it's grey it's early, black later ones - see if yopu an annoying 'he-har' key in noise from the foot well or steering wheel.?
You could always string a wire from the fuel pump in the back, to the horn under the bonnet, or a Henna Beacon or something, so if the fault occurs customer can have an idea, also cranck sensors from pug are like 12 quid reatail, easy to fir, make lots of money.

PLUGGED it in today and have code 170 canister purge valve circuit , would this cause a starting fault ?

Unlikly, unless the valve has gone dead short, or jambed and filling inlet with LARGE amounts of hydrocarbons..
'Circuit' eg 'broken wire', 'plug not quite in'.
If key in buzzer from footwell, suggest twa*tting mentioned rely, if later, twa*t fusebox under hood
