has this vehicle got mechanical fuel injectors, like the k-jetronic system. have a look at your fuel pressure. could be low. what is your engine number.

Cant be fuel pressure, if the engine kicks in at 2500 rpm,

Hello,
According to his post this car is 1.6 Petrol so, there is NO question of (mechanical fuel injectors, like the k-jetronic system).
paul1960,
When was the Fuel filter and S/Plugs been last changed on this ?
Also is the Throttle Body clean and basic Settings been done for Throttle Body.

Just for the record: the K-Jetronic system is for petrol cars and was very common in 1988. Since 7:38pm today we now know it's not a 1988 model but a 1998. The guy changed his post. Check his other post where the model year is still 1988.

had a similar effect a few years ago with akl engine 1.6 sr, very sluggish at low rpm, catalytic converter were block. not sure about the high idling, maybe air leak in intake system.

paul 1960 Good afternoon
here in Brazil runs a golf 1.6 petrol injection Simos, good is on this basis that I will comment, check probe and air mass, preferably unique, these are probably your fault sensors

hi buddy. he mentioned that he has already changed the airmass meter. usually if the lamda probe is faulty, the vehicle will have jerky effect. cheers.
