How do you guys find this receiver?

Thinking about getting one but can't find much out there!

Is HD decent? Is it reliable? Is it easy to set up & does it need any TLC?!

Cheers

Loading ccam files can ONLY be done via usb and google card sharing to see the big card sharing websites, ask for a 24 hour test off them first to see if they are any good before you decide to pay them ????

Freezing - thats not good, change provider although to be honest most main cline providers have problems with blocking/freezing they are putting too many accounts on

I use a local group of no more than 50 members, no blocking / freezing ever occurs

Firstly what file are you using to create the channel list

Secondly the channel list (tp) must be from the cprrect firmware version or you will encounter problems

Are you sure you are using the channel editor correctly as i use this process quite often without any problems

You don't need to dump your c**am. Just load your details back onto the box when you upgrade the firmware, the same way you did it before. I.e through your usb
when you change the firmware your details are erased so you are just loading them on again

1st post here, so be gentle!
I'm going to get the S9 and thought I'd get some stuff ready in advance. I've tried the PVR 800 editor with a channel list file, am I supposed to see channel names or just the frequencies listed, when opened in the editor? I'm only seeing the frequencies, so editing out the unwanted channels in advance of uploading the list to S9, is a bit tricky.

Ok here is the updated Sly Uk Channel list

All HD channels are now first in line in all the categories

Ive added more HD channels too many to mention with a handfull into the movie section

Added a few more adult

Also moved the channels around so best part of them follow the sky planner

I think this list is now complete and wont be altering it until Sky decide to mess around with the frequency's or new channels are added.

bit more info needed, what were you using before? I.e were you having hassle before or is this a new install. Did you load a channel list, are you using a quad lnb, could you try a different box there, or can you bring the box to a mates and test it there. These few things could narrow down your problem

Try rebooting your box switch it off at the back switch for around 30 secs

yes guys ive done reset and rescan

but i have noticed that the openbox picks up 19,13, and 28 sat using the sky dish, but they all come up with same channels just none of the above said channels

could there be a fault with the box or any sort of settings ive got to set as ive not had the box long, about 2 weeks,

using a sky dish with 8 outputs
sky+ cant record
sky+hd - cant record
2 other sky boxes that kids uses for kids and music channels
and old manhatten 3000 box
working fine with all the free channels

im hoping to replace the sky+hd box with the openbox so my partner can record her programs in HD, but she wont use it if some of her channels are not there

cheers

Has your openbox got its own sat lead direct from your box to the lnb or are you using the loop through or a splitter as this tends to cause issues

Its best fo your openbox to have its own, if it hasnt then remive one of the leads from your sky boxes and try that im pretty much sure this is where the problem lies

I can send you a dump from my box that works perfectly

hi kevhky thanks for helping

I taken the lead from the record side of the sky+hd box as its not need there now and attached to openbox so yes the box does have its own lead

I download the above file and installed on my box mtv cbs most of the itv HD channels and movie HD channels are listed but they just come up as no signal

when I do a scan i get list of channels that are just numbers so dont know it the channels are there

when I have time I will list all channels that have no signal
and if we can work from there

once again thanks for advise that are given here,

hi there i need some help setting up my dish. Will the openbox supply a quad lnb by itself?? Will it know how much power to provide, depending on whether im receiving horizontal or vertical transmissions. Also i need to know the polarity of the LNB, just so that i can attatch a battery pack to it through the SATFINDER. Thanks a lot

huge thanks for all this info on this forum.

My openbox is in transit, I am also getting a quad lnb so I can share a dish with an empty flat nextdoor as it seems easier than putting a dish up myself.

Any heads up on the obvious noob mistakes? From reading I may have to set the LNB to universal and also it works better with one feed.

I see a few posts on here with channel lists, keeping in mind this is a fixed dish will it still be a good idea for me to download the channel lists?

Hi Guys , had an S9 for a few days now and suffering from a problem with it. Every so often the screen will go completely black , for a few seconds , quite often . The box remains booted and doesnt power off , and signal seems ok 79% ,
i originally thought it was a hdmi issue , however i am now connected with componant cable , and issue still happening,
I have searched for this issue but doesnt seem a common problem ,
Can anybody advise me , online searches reveal nothin , other than "problem channels". Is this the problem channels issue , as happens a lot more on kids nick channels . Will another firmware fix this problem
currently on NM_HDS2_CMT_1101030405
If anybody can help in any way , i would be really gratefull ,many thanks in advance

(http://www.yojiatech.com/a/about/News_Center/2011/0110/53.html) it is just firmware no channel list so if you want to keep your channel list make a backup then install this firmware there are a lot of different firmwares out there this one comes straight from the the factory that makes the s9

Well thst firmware should be fine

You could either try reinstalling it as may be corrupt or drop back to the november think it was 3/11 or 16/11 not quite sure, befor you uplad firmware in tool restore box to default then upload firmware

Hi,
Im a new member to this forum although i have visited many times. The info on here is great. I've had a dm 500s for about 3 months now and its been great (except epg). I have now ordered a openbox s9 to take advantage of its high definition (and perhaps equally bad epg??) It should arrive in the next couple of days, i've read up on how to update firmware, channel lists and enter cline details etc. But what is the actual latest firmware that everyone uses and where did you download it?
Thanks alot

Think I figured it out, you have to use the - and + on your keyboard, you can't just click and drag them.
A bit cumbersome but better than using the remote and doing it on the box I guess.

Yeah, had no problems with that part, just make sure the naming of the file is bang on CCcam.cfg (two Capital C at the start) and make sure it is in the root of the USB.

isn't it about time they addressed the box rebooting problem. It is been a problem quite a long time now and until they get this problem sorted I would not recommend this box to anyone.

maybe they will concentrate their efforts on the openbox s10 and not bother about sorting out problems on the openbox S9.

I check every day in the hope that they've released firmware that resolves this problem, but to no avail.

does anybody even know whether they are working on the problem?

Hi you have to rename the favs yourself for the first time after that if you continue using the updated lists the favs names will remain, only takes a min or two to rename them

You will have to add asian channels yourself as i dont require them, just rescan the transponders that have them and voila they will appear

Hi All,

Thought I would introduce myself !

I'm Rob from Liverpool UK

I have just ordered my Openbox S9 from Ebay so I will probably need some help when it arrives.

I decided to opt for the Openbox rather than the Dreambox due to the information I have read saying that its really a no frills box, I am not yet ready to tinker so we will see how it goes.

Am i right in thinking its relatively straight forward to configure ?

Can I update firmware by USB drive or do I need to order a special cable ?

No lead needed bud unless your using an external drive then youd need a usb lead or you could just use a usb stick

Openboxes are very easy to use and configure

Cheap boxed but fantastic HD picture

Cardsharing works like a charm

If you need any help or advice shout up

Used the Sly Uk Channel list from page 7 of this thread but not all the scanned channels appear to be in the fav lists.
Alibi and Alibi+1 are not in there. There seems to be quite a few in the scanned sat list that aren't in the favourites.

How do I edit the channels in the scanned sat list and organise them into favourites myself?

Hi ill check my list for the alibi channels and if missing ill add them for you

I'm not complaining and I appreciate the work you've already put in.

If I want to delete all the channels and start again would it be better to do it manually or just do a factory reset and scan again?

Thanks again for the channel list, saved a lot of time. I have a couple of questions:
1 - I am getting glitching but only on HD channels, they were fine on the first day i used the box, but now are unwatchable, sd channels are fine.
2- i am getting irish tv adverts for some reason! This is happening on discovery channel and maybe others (cant remember now) Does this channel list have irish versions of the channels?
Thanks

Here's a complete Listing.

1.Entertainment
2.Movies
3.Sport
4.Discovery & Adult
5.Music
6.Kids
7.Lifestyle & Shopping
8.News

Based on kevhky (http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/members/227470-kevhky/) list, I've done a full scan on 28.2 and added all the missing channels, and rearranged everthing into the correct fav groups,.

Took me a while, but worth it I think

You will have to rename favourites yourself, when you put on a channel list sometimes the names don't transfer also

Hi mate appreciate the reply.

I have tried that, read that suggestion somewhere else as well so I changed the volume on the box to the lowest setting.

Still get the crackling through my tv and speakers.

You can switch the audio channel but most of the time the second audio track has audio commentary which can be even more annoying.

Any other ideas?

Cheers.

I turned the surround sound off my tv but it still crackles.

Only seems to happen with channels that use ac3 audio tracks though.

The other audio channel won't crackle but also isn't surround sound and usually has voice over commentary.

What firmware are you using? I'm on 1101030405 without this problem, either via hdmi to TV (downmixed by the telly) or optical spdif out to amp. There is some setting in the menu about digital sound I think, with 2 options to select. I have a feeling though it's something to do with turning AC3 off, which might cure your crackling, but will also remove any surround ability which kind of defeats your object probably.

Hi mate.

First had the problems with older firmware but they still happen with the newest firm from last month.

Yes there is two audio options but both have the problem unless I switch to non ac3 but they usually have commentary.

No mate, I'm talking about an option in the Setup menu under TV System, where you can set Digital Audio Out to BS (AC3) or LPCM. If you set it to LPCM it converts a Dolby stream to PCM output. This does work as I've just tried it and watched the Dolby symbol on my amp change to PCM after changing this setting on a channel that puts out AC3 and with that soundtrack selected. As I say before, you'll lose any surround but it might mean you can watch any channel without that scratchy audio you're getting

Hi, regarding subtitles just enable / disable using the sub button on the remote

Hd no sound, it's not the image causing this as I've not had any problem with any image, have you had sound before with earlier images, if so just reinstall or check settings
