I am trying to use DDDL using a Nexiq Magikey and a USB to serial adaptor with no luck. The J1708 light on the magikey is flashing so that side is ok. I have installed the drivers for the magikey and the usb adaptor.
Is anyone out there using this combination successfully?
I currently have the magikey to
female/female 25 pin gender changer
to 25 pin/9pin adaptor
to 9 pin male/male cable
to usb adaptor to laptop (xp pro)
Confusing I know, but I'm not sure of a simpler way of doing it without shelling out the $700US for a new nexiq usb interface.
I'm not sure if I have the correct male/male 9 pin cable. Should it be null modem or something else?
I have an inline 5 adaptor which works fine on insite but cant get it to connect on DDDL. It initializes for a few seconds then stops.
Any ideas or tips would be gratefully received.
Cheers

If the light is flashing, then you don't have power on your truck side connector. I would check to make sure that your power is good on both sides. Also make sure that you have the correct adapter selected, according to the software that you are using. Hope this helps!

OK, an update on this. I have set up a test bench at home consisting of a 12v battery a DDECIV ecm and wiring to try and get this Magikey PDM working so I don't have to be out on a truck every time I want to test it out. I have tested it with my Prolink so I know it works.
When I connect the Magikey I get an error message
DX121032 Initialization Failure Error number 279.
I haven't had much luck finding info on this on the net.
The power light is on and the J1708 light does not come on.
In DDDL I have the device set to PDM J1708. In device manager I have the usb/serial converter set to Com 2 and the J1708 set to Com 1.
I get the error message whether i have the Magikey connected or not.
Anymore advice greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Universal EULA | NEXIQ TECHNOLOGIES (http://www.nexiq.com/node/113)

Greetings

in XP you must check the device's administrator
seen in that port (COM1, COM2 etc.) was configured adapter cable
has not reviewed any question mark or exclamation mark
It indicates that there is any conflict at the hardware level
If properly installed and says that it is a COM3 or COM4, COM 5 etc.
you should change the USB input so you can be on COM1 or COM2
because the controller handles only those ports

Once you have properly configured and this option, you can enter the configuration of the connection interface of the program and bring KEN MOORE COM1 or seek to Nexiq

I work here with an identical connection

usb adapter and PDM Nexiq
