Hey guys/Gals,
I've got myself a dreambox, that was already set up and installed for me, but I wanted to re-arrange the channel set up as to be honest it's doing my head in. I have a programme dreambox edit and I have obtained the dreambox IP address and connect to it. But when I try to receive information from the dreambox the user and password setup is incorrect.
I'm assuming this was changed by the user who set my dreambox up for me. As I am a total newbie my question is, 1. Can I reset the password without losing any of my setup or 2. Does it have to be a total re-set and if so would I be capable of setting it back up and getting all my channels again.
Manyh thanks for any help I may receive.

it wont mess up your box only change your password
This is the easiest way to change your root password in DreamBox.
(Default username: root & Default password: dreambox)
IThis is the easiest way to change your root password in DreamBox.
(Default username: root & Default password: dreambox)
In PC any Windows version:
Step1: Click Start
Step2: click RUN
Step3: type: CMD
Step4: type: telnet 192.168.1.2 <-- that was an exemple write the ip of your Dreambox instead of 192.168.1.2
Step5: It asks for user type: root
Step6: It asks for password type: dreambox
Step7: type: passwd
Step8: type your new password
Step9: type your new password again
Step10: reboot your DreamBox and you have a new root password!

also try this
Follow these steps if you have forgot your password:
1) Install and run TuxBox Commander plugin
2) Change directory to edit /var/etc/passwd
3) Remove the encrypted password.
–> ATTENTION !!!! THE passdw file only !!! NOT the passdw-
3.1) In the file /etc/passwd is the line:
root:b:0:0:root:/root:/bin/sh or something as !!!
root:dkjhfhlksfdiueyr736592cigsdjgfj:0:0:root:/roo t:/bin/sh
3.2) the password field is the b or the encripted string dkjhfhlksfdiueyr736592cigsdjgfj
3.3) Delete the b or the string .
The line now is:
root::0:0:root:/root:/bin/sh
(for the DM500, if you are using an other DM keep the
root as it is, you must delete ONLY the string)
4) Save the file and exit
5) Telnet to your DB with root user without password
6) Create a new root password with the command : ” passwd ”
If you want put the original file with user:root and pas.:dreambox in one directory in your’s DM and if you forget again the pas. then just copy the file passw in the original location

Got a huge problem now, The setup menu on my dreambox is passcode protected, ive tried the usual 1111, 1234 but it's not any of those, so how on earth am I able to get Tuxbox commander as a plugin on there ?? Is there any other way to find out these passwords/codes without flashing the box, I do not want to lose my Cccam codes ??

Sounds like you have received this box from a pay service? If you don't want to lose your CCcam.cfg best getting back in touch with whomever you bought the service/box from.

I followed another tutorial on a different site and it didn?t specify between passwd and passwd- files. So I accidentally deleted the string in the passwd- file. What can I do? is there a code I can now put back into the passwd- file. Currently both the passwd and passwd- files read root::0:0:root:/root:/bin/sh. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Using a Technomate TM-500. Kind Regards

hi i have an old dreambox 500, it was from a paid service a few years back, but i no longer want this service nor do i ise it. i decided to pull it out the cupboard and i want to be able to reset the box maybe load another image or whatever, i want to be able to control it my self, can anyone assist pls.. i tried getting in through telnet but i dont have the password, i can see on the box in filesystem > var > root that tuxbox is there and when i enter i see config/ installer/ plugins/ & scce/ directories but it doesnt matter which directory i go into they are all empty.. the only one that has files is the picture directory..
i doubt i can do anything with it since i dont have setup password, but i would like to start fresh on it..

If you want to carry on with this yourself then all the guides for flashing and using the DM500 can be found here: DM500 Plugins & Tools (http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f215/)

If your just solely using it for 28.2? east then Commando image seems to be the Most Popular

not sure if i mentioned but i live in Australia, what is 28.2* east... I Googled it and wiki said something about it being Astra communications satellite for Europe..
Originally i was thinking of installing xbmc on it, but then i remembered i am using another box called xcruser and its connected to the dish i get quiet a few channels on it but atm the english channels are blocked..
so i thought i would teach myself how to setup the dream box to the dish and pickup channels that way since i already know how to use the basics of xbmc..
this whole thing is just a hobby/learning curve for me.. when ever i come across new technology i like and i dont know much about it, i like to teach my self how to use it.
and if it saves me a few bucks from having to pay someone to do it, its even better :D
thanks
