Hi guys, first of all, this isn't new but all info is spread over there and it's a bit difficult to get all info together so i made this post

1# buy some Vagcom cable KKL 409.1, just 8 ***8364; + shipping from ebay, ask the seller if it has the chip FT232RL. why? well basically because that chip support software mods.

2# As my 530d do not have odb2 connector, I order a cable adapter from obd2 to 20 pin bmw, ebay seller is ( Car.Doctor ) another 8 ***8364; + shipping.

I preferred to catch it on ebay, because it was more comfortable and cheaper than going to catch the pieces out there, also for those wishing to DIY, I leave the chart with specific connections.
http://shop.diagt.com/images/categories/automovel/bmw20-obd-conv-sch.jpg

3# Open your vagcom and solder obd2 pins 7 and 8, which are the K lines, otherwise you will not be able to access to all modules from the car
http://img708.imageshack.us/img708/1346/abcd00121.jpg

4# If you have buyed vagcom with ftdi 232 rl, for the software mod, you will need this driver "CDM 4.2.1916 WHQL certified" (http://tech.yostengineering.com/servoFolder/servocenterUSB/cdm-2-04-16-whql-certified.zip/at_download/file) , so unpack it, connect the cable, and install all with this driver.

Now we need to adjust the serial port, press the Windows key and Pause (both), then follow these images (sorry my XP is in spanish language)

Select com1 and 1 or 2 ms of latency
http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/5674/image011rq.jpg

5# Download the "M. Prog 3.5" (http://www.ftdichip.com/Resources/Utilities/MProg3.5.zip) to modify the programming of the eeprom FT232RL,
we need to invert RI # and DSR # signals to fool the detection of battery and ignition, in order to be able to encode.

Run mprog and follow this steps

check your I / O Controls settings, them must be like this:
#C0 = RXLED
#C1 = TXLED
#C2 = PWRON
#C3 = PWRON
#C4 = SLEEP

and do this
http://img717.imageshack.us/img717/6008/image017n.jpg

now you should see black dots
http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/4439/abcd00151.jpg

if your vagcom comes with ft232bm/bl chips, don't worry you only need to do some work

for those chips

pin 17 is GND
pin 18 is RI
pin 20 is DSR

so you need to solder pins 17,18 and 20 of the FTDI chip (this applies to the BL and BM) like this
http://a.imageshack.us/img37/5155/image385v.jpg

but if we want some REAL battery and ingnition detect, we must do this circuit
Note: if you don't do this circuit you will not be able to do CAR KEY MEMORY

1 resistance of 4.7 kohm
1 resistance of 10 kohm
1 transistor BC546

http://www.clubebmwportugal.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/ign-circuit.jpg

in ft232bm/bl, it look like this
http://a.imageshack.us/img199/8725/image395m.jpg

http://a.imageshack.us/img401/674/image396d.jpg

In case anyone wants to do it in the FT232RL here are the outputs of the chip.
http://www.socalbavarians.com/bmwecu/viewtopic4.php_files/ft232rlextviewoo2.jpg

Note: This interface supports cars from 96/98 to March 2007

it work's with inpa,dis,sss, carsoft 6.1.4 (http://rapidshare.com/files/209569042/Carsoft_BMW_6.1.4_wrls.rar) and navcoder also

For the navcoder you usually need a RESLER interface but you don't really need it

The Resler interface works with 4 outputs (ibus, 12v, gnd and NTSC) NTSC signal is used to the camera and as we don't have the chip for its management, just forget about it.

With this in mind, connect three cables as follows

http://www.bimmernav.com/images/ibus.jpg

OBD2 connector pin 16 to 12v Positive cable
OBD2 connector pin 7 to I-Bus cable
OBD2 connector pin 4 or 5 to negative (gnd) cable

Anyway just plug it into your obd2 and start navcoder or connect it to your cd changer or radio, whatever.
you could search in wds for your car wires you will need 12v, gnd, and i-bus wich is usually a white and yellow cable
now you can use navcoder or other i-bus software

FTDI232BM/BL DON'T SUPPORT SOFTWARE MOD, so you need to do it hardware, that's why you must solder chip pins 17,18 and 20.

thank you
after i write the message i find the answer
yes,i soldering the pins 17,18,20 with rezistance and transistor an it`s working.

the test machine it was a BMW 320TD 2004 and the software i use is ""BMW INPA 5.02 & EDIABAS 6.47 "" (63 Mb) - i confirm its working fine

thank`s for usefull post

3# Open your vagcom and solder obd2 pins 7 and 8, which are the K lines, otherwise you will not be able to access to all modules from the car

one more question:
in case of FT232BM/BL based interface, do i still need to solder obd2 pins 7 and 8?
thanks

edit: soldering pin 7 and 8 of interface is only necessary in case you connect interface directly to car by means of its obd2 16pin connector (pin 7 and 8 are k lines of 16pin obd2 connector in your car).
if your car has round 20pin connector and you use 16pin to 20pin adapter, it is not necessary to solder because pins 17 and 20 (k lines of round connector in your car) are internally soldered to pin 7 of interface (k line of interface)

yes sure, you MUST do it, otherwise you won't be able to access all modules from the car

Siempre hay que soldar los pins 7 y 8 del obd2, corresponden a las dos lineas K de bmw, si no los sueldas no puedes acceder a todas las centralitas del coche (solo podras acceder al motor y la caja de cambios)

hi yorugualoco,
some questions,
i have modded my vag com kkl interface with ft232BL (not RL) as you said and installed inpa (loader 4.4.7, bmw group rectification programs uk v3.01) but when i connect interface to computer and start inpa (_.ipo) i only get battery on = black dot (ignition is off = white dot)
i have conected interface to 220v/12v ac/dc power adapter (+12v to pin 16 and gnd to pin4+5) but i get the same results
will ignition dot turn black when connecting interface to car so that pin1 is also powered? or what is the problem?
thanks
edit: exactly! it works! i have powered pin 1 of interface and i get both black dots!

in your picture both dots are black without connecting interface to car ?????
edit: sure, because your interface got no transistor, so it doesnt depends on pin1 to make ignition dot black
http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/4439/abcd00151.jpg

for car key memory we must do next circuit but it says pin 1 is ignition (instead of +12v by pin16) so i understand that in bmw cars pin 1 gets powered when turning the key to ignition position
http://www.clubebmwportugal.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/ign-circuit.jpg

edit: according to pinouts.ru, pin 1 is +12v (power) so i asume it only got power when key is turned to ignition position, BMW OBD-II diagnostic interface pinout and wiring @ pinoutsguide.com (http://pinoutsguide.com/CarElectronics/bmw_obd_ii_diagnostic_pinout.shtml)
i suppose that in car key memory process, inpa must detect in certain moment that key is turned to off position but with interface still plugged to car, showing battery black dot and ignition white dot.

if so, what about cars with round 20 pin connectors? in 16pin-to-20pin adapters, pin1 of obd2 side is not connected to any pin of round side so that it will never be powered, so car key memory is not supported?
http://shop.diagt.com/images/categories/automovel/bmw20-obd-conv-sch.jpg

edit: according to pinouts.ru, pin 16 in round bmw connector is +12v ignition but it is not taken into account in obd2-to-bwm adapter, so i suppose that for car key memory we should also solder a copper wire from pin 16 of bmw side to pin 1 of obd2 side
BMW OBD II vehicle diagnostic connector pinout and wiring @ pinoutsguide.com (http://pinoutsguide.com/CarElectronics/car_diag_pinout.shtml)

in adapters from ebay, it seems round side can be opened but not obd2 side, so it is not possible to solder a wire between them.
http://imgs.inkfrog.com/pix/musician/bmw_20PIN.jpg

i think for cars with 20pin connectors only solution is:

- we dont need transistor circuit anymore, just add a switch between pin 20 of ft232bm/bl and ground (pin 4 or 5 of obd2 connector in interface, or pin 17 in ft232bm/bl chip, or black wire of usb connector in interface, etc... but pin 17 and 18 must still be soldered together): switch it off when you are prompted to turn key to off position, in other conditions keep it on

- in case you wanna keep your transistor circuit (for obd2 16pin connector compatibility, in case you need it in the future or interface is also gonna be used in other bmw cars with 16pin obd2 connector), solder the 10k resistor to both pin16 and pin1 of obd2 connector in interface, BUT you MUST insert a switch between the resistor and pin16 in order to simulate key is turned to off position when prompted: switch it off when you are prompted to turn key to off position, in other conditions keep it on (except when used in bmw car with 16pin obd2 connector: keep it always switched off because pin1 will be the one powered or not when turning the key to ignition position or off position respectively)

SAY THANKS!!

it funny but i have updated inpa to 5.0.2 and it has different behaviour when connecting interface to pc:
now it always shows both dots white, until i power pin 1 of obd2 connector in interface, moment in which it turns both dots into black
with inpa 4.4.7, battery dot was always black (with interface plugged in pc, of course) and ignition dot turned into black only when powering pin 1 of obd2 connector in interface

when updating, i have selected "com1" and "usb to serial adapter", maybe it got something to do with all this???????
i see new installation has copied ftdi drivers (very old, v1.00.2115) to C:\EDIABAS\Hardware\OBD
maybe it is the only function of selecting "usb to serial adapter"

manocao, don't need any switch for 20pin.
cut from above obd connector where pin1 is and solder wire and to 20pin obd. Melt little plastic over it where you solder wire and cover it. Works here.
As for usb inf, you need to restart soft to get both dots, or enter in some model and return.
Both bl/rl can be made to detect real bat and ing as normal inf does, use same diagram for other pins.

As for usb inf, you need to restart soft to get both dots, or enter in some model and return.

it doesnt work for me
both dots always white, even with interface pin16 powered, they only come black when powering pin1 (ignition)

edit: i found out the problem:
when upgrading i chose "usb-serial adapter" which modified a line in obd.ini (it wrote USB instead of OBD):
Hardware=OBD
i have edited obd.ini like above and now i got always battery dot black, and ignition dot gets black only when powering pin1
this is normal behaviour like before
if i edit Hardware=ADS then both dots are always black (this is for other kind of interface)

i have realized that upgrading hasnt erased previous 4.4.7 instalation because it installs inpa 5.0.2 in different directory:
inpa 4.4.7 ---> C:\INPA\BIN\INPALOAD.EXE
inpa 5.0.2 ---> C:\EC-APPS\INPA\BIN\INPALOAD.EXE
so i can use both versions :)
although if i try some cars in both versions, i got errors, i think there are some .ifo files missing :(

well, the reason to make Ignition circuit, it's to be able to do CAR KEY MEMORY and some others features in DIS or SSS.

If you don't do ignition circuit you still can diagnosis and clean error memory.

In ftdi232 BM/BL pins 17 and 18 are #ri and #gnd, if you solder them you will have allways battery ON, meanwhile pin 20 is #dsr and goes to ignition

Boys, chino obd2 to round connector is not fully populated (not all wires are connected, pin20) that's why is not working.

retry: Repetition in the event of an error made by EDIABAS already, should therefore be made.

mode: In KBUS DS2 frames in K-bus messages are converted. Communication only at the individual DS2-control device on the K-Bus permitted.

ubatt: In UBATT = OFF, the battery status is not determined by the hardware but firmly "available battery voltage" on set.
Workaround for the hardware failure of the LAPTOP DELL LATITUDE D600.
This is not really in a position to recognize the battery status.

of course, interface must always be installed as COM1
i asume you have added to path ;c:\ediabas\bin

also check it exists this system variable some lines above path (i think this is only created by inpa 5.0.2 update, not 4.4.7 instalation):

name: ediabas_config_dir

if your vagcom comes with ft232bm/bl chips, don't worry you only need to do some work

for those chips

pin 17 is GND
pin 18 is RI
pin 20 is DSR

so you need to solder pins 17,18 and 20 of the FTDI chip (this applies to the BL and BM) like this
http://a.imageshack.us/img37/5155/image385v.jpg

but if we want some REAL battery and ingnition detect, we must do this circuit
Note: if you don't do this circuit you will not be able to do CAR KEY MEMORY

1 resistance of 4.7 kohm
1 resistance of 10 kohm
1 transistor BC546

http://www.clubebmwportugal.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/ign-circuit.jpg

in ft232bm/bl, it look like this
http://a.imageshack.us/img199/8725/image395m.jpg

http://a.imageshack.us/img401/674/image396d.jpg

In case anyone wants to do it in the FT232RL here are the outputs of the chip.
http://www.socalbavarians.com/bmwecu/viewtopic4.php_files/ft232rlextviewoo2.jpg

Note: This interface supports cars from 96/98 to March 2007

it work's with inpa,dis,sss, carsoft 6.1.4 (http://rapidshare.com/files/209569042/Carsoft_BMW_6.1.4_wrls.rar) and navcoder also

For the navcoder you usually need a RESLER interface but you don't really need it

The Resler interface works with 4 outputs (ibus, 12v, gnd and NTSC) NTSC signal is used to the camera and as we don't have the chip for its management, just forget about it.

With this in mind, connect three cables as follows

http://www.bimmernav.com/images/ibus.jpg

OBD2 connector pin 16 to 12v Positive cable
OBD2 connector pin 7 to I-Bus cable
OBD2 connector pin 4 or 5 to negative (gnd) cable

Anyway just plug it into your obd2 and start navcoder or connect it to your cd changer or radio, whatever.
you could search in wds for your car wires you will need 12v, gnd, and i-bus wich is usually a white and yellow cable
now you can use navcoder or other i-bus software
very very well

i once installed the one you got, it lacks many hardware folders

use this, packaged by me after installing inpa 4.4.7 and updating to 5.0.2 from original .iso files (339mb + 325mb)
ediabas is also updated from 6.4.3 to 6.4.7
full version, only 21mb to download (thanks to .uha compression)
it extracts 2 folders: inpa and ediabas
includes instructions
easy install and run!

at least battery dot should be black with interface unplugged to car, only plugged to pc
check ftdi pins 17 and 18 are soldered together
pin 17 is ground, check continuity between 17 and other ground in the pcb (black wire of usb cable)

ground is ok,only led of interface turns on when putting interface to power

maybe will desolder en test it first as kkl on VAG or FES to see if it works like that.

mate, your car have 20 pins diagnosis interface connector or obd2?

if you got 20 pins and you are using some adapter maybe there is the problem! some adapters got one pin missing

dont desolder yet
check if interface is ok by means of vag-com 311.2 or 409.1 or vcd-lite 1.0 -> options > test (interface must be plugged to car or +12v ac/dc adapter)

It states in the title "BMW K+CAN INPA..." but this cable does not work with cars that do not have the can-K-line intepreter built in the OBD-interface. (I have e60 2004 that has the can-bus, but the OBD-output is K/L-line cause it has the intepreter)
So this works on BMW?s manufactured before 3/2007. Models manufactured later on need the CAN-bus cable, so this solution won?t work. I haven?t found any DIY for cheap CAN-bus cable, they are quite expensive compared to this 409.1 VAG.
You can find this same post from bimmerforums link, actually it is the original one. (Posted Aug 2010):wink:

My DIS/INPA/SSS/CARSOFT/NAVCODER Interface. - Bimmerforums - The Ultimate BMW Forum (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1505990)

That post is made by Locum, and he should get the honor of the modification. I contributed some myself about the modification with RL-chip, wich is little different.

Go check it out. :ciao:

Oh, cable works well with INPA, DIS (with VMWare), does not work with DIS native installation, cause DIS needs the ifhserver running on windows side (To cheat DIS that the OPPS head is installed)

You can find this same post from bimmerforums link, actually it is the original one.

That post is made by Locum, and he should get the honor of the modification. I contributed some myself about the modification with RL-chip, wich is little different.

Hi mate, this is why you should read all the thread and not just first page -> look here (http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f166/bmw-k-can-inpa-sss-dis-carsoft-navcoder-usb-interface-idiot-proof-161771/index2.html#post828259)<-

Btw the original thread is on spanish language

Actually, Koogle is the the brain behind all this, and this is his idea and his research!

Not really, but he helps a lot

dont desolder yet
check if interface is ok by means of vag-com 311.2 or 409.1 or vcd-lite 1.0 -> options > test (interface must be plugged to car or +12v ac/dc adapter)
good advice manocao,tested it on vag and was ok,my vag is on another com port;on the side of laptop,com 1is at the rear and was renamed to com4,that must have happend during last reinstal of OS,so my problem with that is finally solved thanks to you.
another question is,if the car has a 16pin plug do you need all the mods?

Sorry about that mistake. I should have read the thread more carefully. And I didn?t try to take credit and say anything about that I am responsive of this invention. I just said I contributed to bimmerforums, like pictures and advices to other people who are trying to build the cable themselves. Bimmerforums thread does not clearly mention that when RL-chip is used with real ignition detection, the invertion on RL-chip must not be used. I had to figure that out myself.

Still, my mistake, and I also apologize my mistake! :vroam:

Thank you

i left the bridges in place, because i did try to remove them for testing but found "pcb tracks" under them so put those bridges back in..
No other changes to cable, just followed exactly what was in this thread,

the faults i had was
a, using wrong version of inpa,
Fal sorted that for me, now using 90X version of inpa..
b, i was trying to conect to car via OBD until i looked at connector and only saw 4 pins in the obd socket,

i can confirm bridges are ok, and connected to car with
1, 409 cable with Ignition Sence & 20 pin adaptor..
2, 409 cable without Ignition Mod & 20 pin adaptor..
Both work fine,
409 cable with ignition sense never throw "ignition on" dot on screen but still connected with car..

I need to make New 16 Pin OBD to 20 pin BMW adaptor
which has pin 1 of OBD connected to the 20 pin, so i can have Real igntion sense,
but not really nessasary, i would just like it...

I would just like to say again, that this is a FANTASTIC thread
and a big thanks to everybody for the great info :top:

Hi guys i found some old video tutorials that i made sometime ago, about software configuration (ediabas,inpa and dis) but they are in spanish language.

Anyways maybe you will find them usefull

here we go

Advice: i remember there's one step missing in ediabas and something else that i can't remember but DIS configuration is ok lol

1? Set environment variables (http://www.multiupload.com/NU26ULWUV3)

2? Installation of bmw-tools (ediabas) (http://www.multiupload.com/0NMCZJUTGP)

3? Installation and configuration of the USB port (http://www.multiupload.com/4GP60O09JD)

4? Installation and configuration of INPA (http://www.multiupload.com/B8K4WY7Y9T)

5? EasyDIS and VM Ware installation (http://www.multiupload.com/68YT5A9XX9)

6? DIS v44 installation (http://www.multiupload.com/EO69FHK43K)

7? Final configuration of DIS (http://www.multiupload.com/A5XAY11C5W)

If your car/model/year, is covered by the description of the modified cable coming from Romania... it's supposed to work yes!

Going on for it, and trying... is another different think!

My personal advice:

1/I wouldn't play my money for an 80$ difference.
2/ There's a very good explanation on this thread, about building this interface from a vag_com cable very cheap and quick. & It works ;)

Hello,

D-CAN works for:

- E60, E61 od 03/ 2007
- E83 od 09/ 2006
- E81, E87 od 03/ 2007
- E90, E91, E92, E93 od 03/ 2007
- E70 ( new model X5)
- R56 ( new model MINI)

Protocol " BMW OBD interface" for older cars:
- from 1995 to 1998 ( don' t need K-line).
- from 1998 to 03/ 2008 ( all models)

After my personnal informations:
Inpa K+can costs about 100$
D-Can Scanner costs about 250$

Anyway, there's no need of using on a virtual machine! Don't remember reading about it on this very good thread! ;)
"About modified interface from this thread > Note: This interface supports cars from 96/98 to March 2007

it work's with inpa,dis,sss, carsoft 6.1.4 (http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/redirect-to/?redirect=http%3A%2F%2Frapidshare.com%2Ffiles%2F20 9569042%2FCarsoft_BMW_6.1.4_wrls.rar)and navcoder also<"

I have a transparent cable like that and it's not like inpa that we all know, it's D-CAN and works great with both types of protocols K+CAN and D+CAN.
the inpa or modified KKL described in this topic only work on K+CAN meaning not on newer versions of BMW made after 2008.
What I don't know is what could be the differences between what I have and this: http://www.kingbolenobd.com/Y201012499M390P79646Fa/D-CAN+GT1+INPA.jpg
untill now I only think it's a design and price difference.

Hope this info helps.

I connected succesfully with Visa uniscan to the engine. I do not have problem with diagnostic socket. I bridge 7-8 pin of obd and have K line in to 17/20 pin on 20 pin connector.

Where is the problem? In software configurations? How config this?

from what I believe you are missing the Ignition wire from PIN1 to Pin16 in the round 20PIN adapter (PIN20 it's in the round part and PIN1 in the other end). this is common on most chinese adapters.

I am going a bit crazy about this whole thing geting it work ;)
Have found so many softwares and instructions,downloaded them and now it is a full house ;)
So I am useing Inpa EA-90X from FAL(looks to be the best choise couse there are so many versions of Inpa)
The pain in the ... is the geting DIS to work so I have a couple of questions for Dk members who nows something bit more about it...
I have kkl modified like in the first post( RL chip) and did all like yourgualoco explained.
I have attached some instructions I have and link to some video instructions I found(if anybody interested PM).
I have managed to install a lot but a litle scared to try it couse after all these are expensive peace of machinery,this BMW;)
QUESTIONS:
1.Can I do some damage to a car if I did not installed everything ok or the program yust dont work,I am talking about Inpa an Dis?
2.Do I still can work whit Inpa when I ajust EDIABAS INI for DIS
3.Do I need 2 aditional network adapters in VMWARE setings?
4.Can I use obdfemale to bmw 20 adapter whit DIS (I am talking about adapter from the first post)
5.I new I hade some more questions but better to ask now couse if I dont I will forget it ;O)

are you using 16 pin OBD socket or 20 pin under bonnet??

if using 16 pin--then check that the 16 pin housing is fully populated..If not then try connecting under bonnet..

Sorry...Yes socket in car......some not fully populated..

yes can access live data, DTC's, control actuators etc....
And lots more.......................

But certain you need adaptor to convert youre KKL cable to BMW 20 pin ( under-bonnet ) to get full access to all units..:beer:

Hi peoples!

Can you help me ?

I mod 232RL with hardware mods (2 resistors + BC546), now INPA say me (BATTERY ON + IGNITION ON) when i swith on ignition and say me BATTERY OFF + IGNITION OFF when i swith off ignition.

This is correct ? Or BATTERY ON must be all time when adapter plugged in to OBD2 and text IGNITION ON\OFF - depend from ignition ?

Problem solved. I use soft mod - it enought for E46.

i think you use wrong version (64mb?)
i once installed the one you got, it lacks many hardware folders

use this, packaged by me after installing inpa 4.4.7 and updating to 5.0.2 from original .iso files (339mb + 325mb)
ediabas is also updated from 6.4.3 to 6.4.7
full version, only 21mb to download (thanks to .uha compression)
it extracts 2 folders: inpa and ediabas
includes instructions
easy install and run!

Tried this severally and kept stopping at 14.8MB reporting content failure, please post to rapidshare

look inside the socket in car see how many pins are in it???

if you can connect to engine then sounds like you need to connect under bonnet into round plug......

you need software and hardware "bmw scanner 1.40 for km"
via cable....
chinese one will do.......:top:

But I can't find 20 pin connector under bonnet. The car is BMW 320D 2003 E46. I can only diagnose the engine. Should the pins 7 & 8 be shorted on my k +dcan adapter? With the same interface I succesfully connected to E39 via 20pin connector under bonet and everything was fine? Also is there some option to read original km from ecu not from dashboard like some TDI cars from VW?

You have to change it in INPA.ini file to have it in the Menu
You go INPA/CFGDAT and open the INPA.ini file and repalce just these part:
F2 = E39
F2_Text = E39 (All Models / M5)
F2_ARCHIV = SGBD_E39

F3 = E46
F3_Text = E46 (All Models / M3)
F3_ARCHIV = SGBD_E46

F4 = E60
F4_Text = E60 (E63, E64) / 5er, 6er
F4_ARCHIV = SGBD_E60

F5 = E65
F5_Text = E65 (E66, E67) / 7er
F5_ARCHIV = SGBD_E65

F6 = E70
F6_Text = E70 (E71, E72) / X5
F6_ARCHIV = SGBD_E70

F7 = E83
F7_Text = E83 / X3
F7_ARCHIV = SGBD_E83

F8 = E85
F8_Text = E85 (E86, E89) / Z4
F8_ARCHIV = SGBD_E85

F9 = E87
F9_Text = E87 (E81, E82, E88) / 1er
F9_ARCHIV = SGBD_E87

F12 = E90
F12_Text = E90 (E91, E92, E93, M3)
F12_ARCHIV = SGBD_E90

F13 = F01
F13_Text = F01 (New 7 Series)
F13_ARCHIV = SGBD_F01

F14 = R50
F14_Text = R50 (R52, R53) Mini
F14_ARCHIV = SGBD_R50

F15 = R56
F15_Text = R56 (R55, R57) Mini
F15_ARCHIV = SGBD_R56

F16 = BMW_ALT
F16_KNOPF = Old
F16_TEXT = Old Modells
F16_ARCHIV = SGBD_BMW

F17 = Motor
F17_KNOPF = Engine
F17_TEXT = Engine
F17_ARCHIV = SGBD_MOT

F18 = Getriebe
F18_KNOPF = Trans
F18_TEXT = All Transmissions / Gearboxes

I was just about to place a question for missing E39.ENG file, when I saw your reply. So extracted what I needed and created a new E39.ENG file. Seem to work ok. Will test tomorrow on my car and Thank You for the tip.

Speaking about E83 (X3, 2.0d, 2003), I have troubles connecting to the engine. It says version mismatch. INPA has 5.0, while on the car is 5.5. Is there any way to update the required file to get connected?

Also Google gave me link to this page (http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f104/bmw-inpa-ediabas-7-0-a-113621/) for newer version of INPA. But I cannot access it for some reason. :( Is it the version I need, or 5.0.2 is actually the right one and just a few files need to be updated?!

I haven't the required files.
Try with Automatic search or use BMW DIS v57
Sorry I cannot help you more
Good luck
No problem. I'll try to extend my search as so far Google gives nothing usefull.

In the meantime I found BMW Standardtools 2.11, thought to update my .exe files... result - it actually did update the INPA to 5.0.6, but also erased completeley all my previous settings and other configuration files.
It is too late today. I will do this tomorrow and hope to get all back nice and working.

Thanks for all your help.

Hi guys,

I could use some help here. I have a china clone K+D Can interface that I bought a while ago but never figured out how to make it work.

I've been reading all posts and got a few things sorted already, like my ediabas.ini file.

I have the dots OK with INPA, battery is on and Ignition is on when I turn the ignition, just as it should be.

When I run the program my interface is not shown in the Connection Setup. What I'm missing?

Thanks in advance!

Think about this and start searching the detailes
Good luck

Thank you m8!

1. didn't actually try to connect to the car as my interface is not shown in the setup yet. I have a question, should I configure my interface in the obd.ini as Hardware=USB or Hardware=OBD ?? I'm confused, my interface is USB, but manocao said to configure it as OBD?

2. My INPA is 5.0.2 Im using the version that came in the CD with my china clone.

3. I did try that, but my interface is not there like it should.

I think there's something wrong in my network connections

Will post a few pics. Thanks a lot!

Mate what are you doing here?
You sadi before that you try to use INPA and now you show me the BMW DIS and the GT1 emulator.
Mate stay calm and install INPA ( I don't know what version you have even you sadi the it is 5.02 because this cannot say anything ) and try to use it.
Do like this
Install INPA
Then install the driver for your interface
Set the virtula com port to com 1 and the Latency to 1 or 2
Then open it obd.ini and set the interface as manocao said OBD and com1
Now you interface will must work
For DCAN you need the aplication for DCAN
Well if you want to use BMW DIS you need a moded version for your DCAN or KKL tool
As I saw in the pics maybe you have a wrong version of DIS which works just with GT1, OPPS or OPS
The INPA can be a wrong one because I saw a lot of 5.02 version, most of them dosen't works
Good luck

Sorry, m8! As you can see I don't know s%$ about the beemers! I work mostly with italian cars.

So, there are 2 different programs? I was under the impression that I could use both with my interface? Guess not.

There's a video in the CD that came with my interface, it shows how to run it and I can see that they open INPA and then open GT1?

You ahve to do like this:
1. Install the INPA
2. Install the drivers of the DCAN tool and set it to com1 and Latency 1 or 2
3. Replace the this two file that you find in the attashament after you extract item into the EDIABAS - BIN
4. Plug the interface to the car and open the INPA to see if the Baterry and Ignision buttons in INPA are "BLACK"
Now you can shut the INPA off
5. Go in the Control Panel and Deactivate the Firewall
6. Deactivate the Antivirus softwear as well
7. Go to EDIABAS - BIN and double clik on ifhsrv32 ( for futhure make a shortcut on Descktop to be easy to handle )
8 Run the GT1 Emulator
Now you run the BMW DIS in thw VMware and go to Settrings - Admin Diagnostic Head
There in the right you'll see the diagnostic head that you have
Now you ahve to push the button "Connecting" and after few second the connection will be established and you'll see the diag head in right down corner
Now you'll be able to use your tool
Good luck

Thanks mate, but no luck! I did exactly as you said:

1. Install the INPA OK
2. Install the drivers of the DCAN tool and set it to com1 and Latency 1 or 2 OK
3. Replace the this two file that you find in the attashament after you extract item into the EDIABAS - BIN OK

7. Go to EDIABAS - BIN and double clik on ifhsrv32 ( for futhure make a shortcut on Descktop to be easy to handle ) OK
8 Run the GT1 Emulator (this is the DIAGHEAD, right?)
Now you run the BMW DIS in thw VMware and go to Settrings - Admin Diagnostic Head but my Diag Head still does not show in the list of free heads.

Maybe there is a problem with the IP configuration in the network settings?

Could you PLEASE elaborate a little on that?

Thank you!!!

First of all mate your tool cannot acces DCAN because it is not a K+DCAN tool it is just a K+CAN and this one can acces just PTCAN
What you share firts it is the FTDI and if you have all buttons black ( Ignistion and BAttery ) then thi is good.
You problem it is that you cnanot connect to the DCAN thats all

As you show me if your battery and ignision are "black" that means that you have't any issue with the FTDI
I didn't said that that tool not work on CAN BUS, I sadi thet it is not a DCAN and it is working on PTCAN
Try to to select this option in the DCAN tool
Try to extract the ept with MProg not with th FTProg and share it here I will look at it and make some comparation.

What version of INPA do you use sir?
Maybe the package that you have it is damaged
How did you intalled the INPA? Do you have it on DVD/CD or you boot it from your computer?
Or did you installed from your computer? Did you installed from C:\ ?
There are a lot of question about installation of INPA that you have to find the answear.
What OS do you tried to install?
And I can continue with the questions about how did you installed.
So maybe more details will be helpfull for us to help you

This is what I sent it to you
If you want to use BMW DIS you need the EDIABAS version 6.47 and some modifications
To have EDIABAS 6.47 you need to unisntall all INPA and then install just step 1 and 2 ( whithout step 3 ) and you ahve what you need to work with DIS

Hello Monacao,
I allow myself to contact you because I downloaded your software which is on page 4 on a post.
I have a transparent interface with 2 buttons "obd; ads" in RS232.
I can install the software without problems but I can not configure the port and when I run the app I have an error API-0015.
I'm sure it's port 1.
I installed it on Windows7pro on a Toshiba CF19 because it's the only laptop I have with a RS232 port.
My cable is a straight cable "2 to2 and 3to3" .
I must imperatively syncronize the immo of a 740i with this soft because my model has "GM3".
Do you have any idea of the error I'm making on the install?
Thank you in advance.
