Hi, hope someone can help me with my Starview box. I have Virgin and in the Birmingham area. Not sure what model box but the serial no. is 61012076 so I am guessing its a 6 series.

I dont know how to set it up, it has never been connected to a PC and now all the channels are gone. Have read some places thats its due to Virgin changes but now need to know if its possible to get the Starview box working again?

Again help please?

Thanks

if it's got a lan port and you have internet connection then you can get it working

I have checked the connections on the back of the box, they are as follows:
1) Cable in and out
2) Ant in and out (I know thats the aerial ones)
3) S-Video
4) Small 9 pin (5 top 4 bottom) connector - Is that it? Marked RS232. If this is it where do I get the connection cable from that goes into the PC and Box?????
5) 3 usual audio coloured wires
6) 2 scart connectors, 1 VCR 1 TV.

Also managed to find out that on the bottom of the box is a barcode which states Starview SP61012076 (Would that mean its a 6 model)?.

We have had it between 1 and 2 years so it shouldnt be so old.

Can someone please help advise me on what to do next, sorry for being so useless but never done these boxes before I only usually mess with the PC or laptop as I know what I am doing there. Hopefully with your help at least once I have some guidance on doing it once I will be much more confident second time around!!!!

Also we have kept our OLD Virgin card in their box and not the new updated one they sent us, oops its still in the envelope.

Thanks very much:wavey::wavey:

doubt if it a sv6 . not been out that long.. check, menu, system info, this will tell you what f/ware is on box...
putting new card in gen box will not affect the sv...
think your sv is a bin bag job.....

Thanks for that, I have checked the system info and it has given me the following:

Starview API Ver 2.57e_E

Bootver 7.0

18 Aug 2006

Does that now mean its a Starview 2???

Thanks

Your box is a SV 1,2 or 3.
If theres no Lan port then it will not work. SV's have USB after Version 3 and versions 6 and 7 also have Lan for internet connection.

ON CABLE....
- Starview 7 SD cable receiver with c/s access--?110 pounds--

- Starview HD combo box with lan, An HD cable and satellite receiver with cable c/s access with some HD channels (satellite c/s access is all up to you) --?220--

- Kryptview A780 SD cable receiver with c/s access --?160-- (also this box is quite hard to find, but from what I've heard has great a great c/s server with minimal disruptions)

ON Satellite.... (please note on all satellite box's besides the spiderbox require you to find your own pay c/s server)

-Dreambox 500 SD or 800HD, dreambox is the most popular name in the satellite market and their box's perform very well with their linux based software running on them.

-Spiderbox 7000HD and 9000HD, also a popular box but its a pretty new box... this box is different to other because it includes a "GIFT" of access to a number of packages on a number of satellite's for 1 year. -- starting at ?165--

----------------------------------------------------------
in my opinion the starview HD combo box works pretty well with satellite TV but sometimes has issues with the cable side which i know will be fixed in the near future. Problems such as the server not working, loss of picture from time to time because of the server that SV provide. Overall it' a great box and i can only really give you my opinion on the box's i own.
