Renault XR25PC : XR25 based interface and software

XR25PC is a xr25 (wallet) based program for old renault cars

the program is based in visual basic 2008 express and .net framework 3.5 sp1

the interface is based in ftdi232 chip, easy to build from usb>ttl 5v converter available on ebay, just add some resistors and transistor

it only got two wires to car 12pin dlc conector: ground (pin2) and k-line (pin9)

it's free! it is read only: errorcodes and live data

it also works with kkl interface for models with obd2 16pin connector

it needs .net 3.5 sp1 installed on your computer, which must be updated at maximum from windows update so that all fonts characters can be read correctly

i tried on my clio monopoint and works perfect

after some installation problems in first versions, that a forum user and myself help author to fix, v1.10 is last released

if you people ask author for the software through his e-mail (instead of downloading from rapidshare, etc), try it and e-mail him with feedback about results, maybe author see people is interested and add more functions to the program

tras unos problemas con el instalador de las primeras versiones del autor, al que ayud? a solventar, ya va por la 1.10

It seemed to select an odd baud rate and I could find a way to alter it.

renault old 12pin ecus work at 62500bps baudrate

some work at 10400bps:
For the megane 1 the KWP2000 protocol is implemented.
The cable is a standard ISO lead or ISO interface. In the schematic the Rx line must be divided to adapt from 12 to 5 Volt 10k//10k
Instead of the 62500 baud 10400 baud is used with a specific protocol 10.nJ

this is an example how the datastream read from ecu looks like: (it can be 43 or 39 bytes long)

some info by author:
The XR25 Protocol was known since 1988.
The car sends a continuous telegram based on the RS232C protocol
with the only change in voltage levels of 0 to 5 Volt.
It uses an open collector output with a limited sinking current. (-0,8mA max)
Do not put voltage on the pin 9 of the diag connector.
You can apply 12V on it wit a voltage division resistive network that limits
it to 5 Volt and max 12V/15kohm. Else your ECU com port wil be blown
(it happened to me 69HC11 fenix 3b)
With a voltage convertor it is possible to read the values with a PC.
The values are hexadecimal coded.
On the Renault fiches (yellow cards) numbers of the parameters are
given like #1 or #2. These numbers represent a value of for example
IAT = air temperature.
In the telegram sent by the cars ECU the value is always on a fixed
position. Each position has a decoding formula. For the temperature
it is the decimal value * 0.625 -40 degrees.

version 1.14 is out. author has debugged it and he came up with the timing problems of the laguna aircon. he made the timeouts larger and it works. Similar was the start of the megane airbag. A continuos loop checks for it. The fiches are still auto-detected and can be unlocked.

he still has to debug it so that it does not give errors.

If your car has extra functions you need a 12pin to 16 pin K-L adapter cable with K-line = pin 11. You also need a VAG-com USB-KL convertor FTDI based.

he uses the AGV4500. There are cheaper versions available.

Soon he will mail the link for the complete version.

i have done it this way:

naked windows XP system with SP2

installed:

windows installer 4.5

dotnet 3.5 sp1 (+update)
you can get from microsoft homepage

then i readed the readme.txt
(it says you have to copy some files, and make
some directorys...)

then installed xr25pc

maybe the software reads the resolution and fitts the

i'am in contact with the programmer, he also send me
the information with gimespace but i doesnt work
in my case...

you can also use xr25pc with kkl interface like cheap vag com 409.1 from ebay

I messaged the author, he said it won't work on mine as my ECU is Fenix 5 and I should try DDT2000. Just downloaded the software and bought an ELM323 from ebay in the hope that it works.

Edit** Would the 323 cable work OK or do I need the KKL one you mentioned :hmmmm2: or do you know if the 323 will work with DDT2000?

yes, it is SUPPOSED that ddt2000 will work with that kind of vag com 409.1 kkl "blue cable" cheap interface (also sold in black colour but is well known as "blue cable")

The vag-com 409.1 cable arrived today. Plugged it in, installed drivers, checked it was working with vag-com software, all fine. Started DDT2000, plugged cable into the car, LED lit up on cable, in DDT2000 I could select COM3 but it doesn't seem to do anything at all. is there any way i can tell if DDT is using the cable? or a link to a DDT2000 manual? Also what driver should I use with the cable as DDT2000 has its own drivers... I'm totally lost.

You must select the COM that appear by plugging-in the cable you bought. DDT works only on COM ( USB - serial COM in control panel ), you can`t tell DDT the type of cable you are using, or original CAN interface ( not your case )
I never use cables bought, I use cables ( interfaces ) made by me because I know what I am doing .

If I knew exactly what sort of interface I need and could find the schematics for it I'd build it.

My cable has COM3 set in device manager and DDT shows that COM port on the Hardware > Diag port bit. I select it, click OK then it takes me to Scan part of DDT. I click the binoculars for all, DDT starts scanning flashes up with 'ISO8?' on every test then says none.

What drivers do you use for your cables/interfaces used for DDT?

My ECU is Fenix 5 if you know of anything that will read it?

I installed it right as far as I know. I used a 2008 database that came with the download, It's v2.3.0.1 and v2.0.9.0 I've tried.

@spikyhercules : I use if USB - serial with FT232 ( the only one chip I found to work with DDT ), if with USB - serial converter with PL2303 do not work, DDT is very sensible on time delays by this chip. I attach for you the schematics I use with success, made this and you will be OK.

I opened my cable and the chip on the board is FT232. I think I just need the right drivers. It came with VAG-COM drivers and nothing else. It was the bloke who makes the XR25PC that told me the cable 'should' work. Just trying things on XP now to see if that makes a difference.

I plug the cable via USB, not serial. The layout depends on the case you use. I put all that schematic inside the case of the OBD connector. You must find an OBD connector and make the layout according to your OBD conn.
The drivers for FT232 you find on ftdichip.com, the manufacturer of that chip, actual ver 2.08. Down the drivers from them and it will work no doubt, it is the best chip for that kind of applications, very little delay, OK for DDT2000

@spikyhercules blue kkl cable does work with ddt I got one. go to ddt database and have a look how big is your data file max available for download is over 400mb. Also use ddt drivers for cable it's in instalation folder. I don't think ddt works with vag drivers as I think I had same problem untill I have used ddt drivers.

Tried it mate, I always have the cable plugged in before I load DDT, Yes I get the activex popup which I allow.
I have noticed my car is ISO8 and the icon near my ECU is pink ...These cables do support ISO8 right?

Are you installing v1.15 first?
Also in the readme file it says at the bottom...
copy ftd2xx.dll to c:\windows\sytem32
make a directory c:\website\CLIP\resources
copy the image files in this directory (resources.rar)
copy the font files c:\windows\fonts
run setup

try uninstalling ftdi drivers first with ftclean:

that driver wont work with your interface whose ft232 chip is factory set to VID_0403&PID_6001
cheap vag com kkl interfaces dont have eeprom
if your ft232 interface had an eeprom, maybe you might edit it with mprog to any vid and pid like above

Xp pro and 2.3.0.1 Not sure on iso8 as the only cars I've connected was various kangoo diesel, 1 petrol kangoo and Laguna 2 2001, I know it will not connect to early kangoo pre 2000 diesel with lucas hom ecu.[can't remember if it's due to lack of data] I couldn't get com port to work on dell inspiron 4150 but works a treat with hp nc6000.
Just had a look at your pic did you try a scan for all cars? I couldn't get lag 2 to connect by scaning laguna 2 but did connect after scanning for all cars.

Also, the icons near the clock, blue one is always blue. But the yellow one, do I have to be plugged into the car to get both arrows or can I get both arrows by DDT finding my cable before being plugged in to car?

I finally have this working with my car! Bin mailing the author and he sorted me out with v1.26 and once i realised i had to switch the ignition on while the prog was loading it was connecting lol Now just to findout why the details aint going into the main xr25 window.

Anyone know how I enter 'G01' as only # seems to work :/

I can confirm a 'blue' vag KKL cable off ebay works with the xr25pc on windows7. I was messaging the author of the xr25pc as he added my ECU, Which is also 16 PIN OBD2. When I connect to the car I get an error box that I just move to the side and its fine.

Maybe you need to set your cable to COM1 in the properties of the cable in device manager.
Also you need to findout what Fiche your car uses, Will probably be Fiche 27 or 28.
1 - Load up xr25 - as it loads switch on your ignition.

When you select Fiche 27-1, 27-1 or 28 it should auto select OBD then the new window should auto select your ECU. ECU scan doesn't work for me.

Hello folks. I have problem with installing RX25_PC. on Windows XP SP2. I did like the Readme file says: installed dotnet 3.5 SP1, updated my windows,create the needed folders, copy the files and still doesn't allow me to install it. Do you have any ideas why? copy the font files c:\windows\fonts means you must COPY the fonts files (not in version 1.41, you must download the original version 1.15 and use the fonts directory included), copy all this fonts to c/windows/fonts and ??? voila !!!!, it works.

Hi. I have tested as you said and work:

Twingo 1998 1,2 (55 CV), blue cable KKL, adpater 12 to 16. You can comunicate whith the ECU Magenti 6.2 (fiche 23) and you can see rpms, temperatures, inyection, advise ligths, etc.

You need to get the last full version which is ecu-gauge-141 then get v1.50 and unzip it to the same folder.

I think you would also need 115 so you can extract the fonts.

In the download PDF there are a pile of versions listed. Is there any reason to use any older version than the latest one? (unless of course if latest one has a bug... :) )

There are 2 types of adapters (12pin to 16pin) on eBay, one with all the 12 pins and one with a pin from the corner missing (11pins) to 16pin connector.

Do you know if there is any difference in them? (perhaps the pin in the corner is not used?)

It does not look like not having a pin will help connecting the connector wrong way? because also in the car there is a hole without a pin where that goes (it is not blocked), so it will fit any direction anyway. But on the side of the connector there is 1 hole on one side, and 2 holes on the other side which should be for connecting it correct way.

More info:

Well, there is no such thing, but it doesnt matter I guess. I attached a photo. I will let you know if the 12pin cable with 12 pin's work or not, later after I try it...

There are two types of socket fitted to the early and late cars before the 16 dlc was used. One has the pin 3 location with a moulded bar across it so you can't fit the later plug with all 12 pins. I have drilled this out on some cars i wanted to use the conector on with K and L line via pin 10 and pin 11. All the later ones have like your picture. You have to make sure the 3 lugs on the moulded plug casing align. Some of the "EBAY" adapter plugs need some trimming with a sharp knife to fit nicely.

Yes 10,11 will do all systems on the later cars. Each module has a different signature if you can call it that, the ecu your trying to interogate will respond and start communication with your scanner / software and interface.

I already tried that. But I am not able to 'decode' his emails.

I asked about this and he replied:


the Magneti Marelli ECU of this type was not known. If you can give me the about values i can adapt the program.
i copied the Fenix 5 setup and i am still verifiing it.

I asked what he means by 'about values' and he replied. (I sent some images earlier but I am not sure if that was what he meant)


air temp at start is outside temp (start image)

Then I asked if I can provide what his program is showing by fooling the ECU by attaching different resistance values which were known to produce the correct temperature (there is a renault twingo manual where is mentioned what resistance values to expect at what temperatures: http://www.uas-bg.com/twingo/MR305TWINGO1.pdf ). Then he replied:

i have checked and changed the values.

i am out of everything except the RPM and injection ms signal.

i overwrote all fonts, including 3 that were in use: micross, tahoma and tahomabd.ttf

if fonts inside fonts.rar are extracted with winrar directly to windows\fonts, fonts are not installed
what i did is extract content to a folder, select them all, copy, go control panel/fonts, paste -> so that windows install fonts and informs you when any font is already installed
in some computers, if you go c:/windows/fonts, that folder looks like any other normal folder, with side panel
you must go control panel/fonts and see that the folder looks different, without side panel, then paste all fonts there
you can also use a wizard going control panel/fonts/file menu/install new font

very happy now!!!!

fonts inside rapidshare file are the same that the ones included in ecu-gauge-1xx.rar, they have the same crc32 (also called hash or checksum number)
you can check it with winrar

it solves 3.00 CAN-1 and CAN-2 fiche selection error and it adds two new fiches xr25CAN1.gif and xr25CAN2.gif, that are the same than xr25271.gif and xr25272.gif (you can alternatively copy and paste xr25271.gif and xr25272.gif in the same resources folder in c:/website/clip/resources and then rename them to xr25CAN1.gif and xr25CAN2.gif respectively)

xr25pc 1.01-3.35 final easy installation

1. install .net 4.0 and reboot:
Download: Microsoft .NET Framework 4 (Standalone Installer) - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details (http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=17718)

2. if after installing .net 4.0 your computer becomes slower when booting and network interfaces doesn?t appear after a while, run this in a console (cmd or make a .bat file with this):

c:
cd C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727
ngen update
cd C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319
ngen update
pause

if you are not sure if your system has become slower, you can do it anyway anytime, it will not harm your pc, it just reorganize-optimize .net 4.0, makes booting faster, fix things, doesnt make any bad

then you can additionally run services.msc and disable these two services: .NET Runtime Optimization Service v2.0.50727_X86 and Microsoft .NET Framework NGEN v4.0.30319_X86

3. here is "xr25pc -all versions- easy installer", install and follow the instructions (it is important that you copy-paste the fonts through 'control panel' > 'fonts'):

maybe it needs administrator rights to install
