i know the cable is OK as it still works with original software 908.0 and speaks to my car.

i know the chip is FDTI rev r as i have reflashed it before when original S/W killed my cable.

@ JMM and others who thing all cables are universal, so all kinda different SPECIAL software can be used for them : The interface only is made for the software with the same title. Vagcom cable -> vagcom software, Kcan cable -> Kcan software. I hope within time, people are starting to get this....

I can't do that because I have a 704.1 VAG-COM upgraded to the latest free english dump - 908.0.

If my theory is correct, there is a great chance to the 10.6 dump be available for all :D

This 10.6 version does not work correctly .

The most important function that was added in 10.6 version, is "Basic Setting" on UDS control modules , and this function require the 1.83 firmware to work properly , but the 10.6 uploaded here work with the 1.81 firmware , it mean that this version is same as 908 .

Mates even genuine interface has bugs, and we're complain that clones not works well.
I'm sorry but I can say that's the last 10.6 work great for a clone one.
So who complain about clones I sugest to buy a genuine one.
ross-tech waiting for you to take your money.
I did all the time a good job with clones ( most of the time ) and I cannot complain becasue I don't want to buy from ross-tech. But "Never say never" Who knows.
We can just talk about what wrong, bugs and something about that not that clone has firmwear 1.81 or not.
A clone never do like a genuine one can do.
I'm talking here about the Chinese clones not about the interface updated using programmer.

I flashed the ATMEGA162 using the new 1.83 FW (FLASH dump) and then I flashed again the ATMEGA162 with the last available 908.0 EEPROM dump from arash.

In conclusion, instead of flashing the uC with FLASH dump (1.81 FW) and EEPROM dump (908.0) from arash I used the the latest 1.83 FW (FLASH dump) and the 908.0 (EEPROM dump).

However, you CAN NOT use the 10.6 VCDS software because the key is store in the EEPROM dump and with this procedure you still have a 908.0 key which is banned in the 10.6.

Any question, just ask :) We're here to help ^^!

The EEPROM dump is encrypted and the Serial Number isn't visible just with an HEX viewer. You'll see a bunch of no sense ASCII characters.

In theory, I believe you can change the Serial Number but first you need to decrypt the dump and then you need a valid serial number (one which is not banned).

First download and install the original 10.6 setup from RossTech

Then a message will show asking if you want to install the driver and you choose yes.

If you want you can just uninstall the VCDS10.6 and leave the driver alone. (use the Add/Remove programs in control panel)

PS - You'll see that in Add/Remove programs you have an entry for VCDS10.6 and an entry for the RossTech driver ;)

That's what I did for my Vista 64bit.

Check cable's PID & VID. If they are PID 0403 VID 6001 - the cable is dead. You can see details from your cable by usbview.exe - free program from FTDI. Original cable's PID VID must be PID 0403 VID FA24.

Let's clear this subject.

The ATMEGA162 is divided in FLASH and EEPROM.

The flash1.83 is used in 10.6.1 and 10.6.2 versions.

BUT if you dont have the correspondent eeprom (with a valid serial number, that is, one that is not banned) for 10.6.1 or 10.6.2 this flash1.83 is useless.

So, if you only have the 1.83 flash and a 908.0 eeprom you can use 908.0 software

If you have 1.83 flash and a 10.6.1 eeprom you can use the 10.6.1 software.

If you have 1.83 flash and a 10.6.2 eeprom you can use the 10.6.2 software.

and so on...

The hard thing in this VCDS cloning is getting the eeprom (not the flash) because it's in the eeprom that the serial number is stored.

Your cable is with FT232RL inside.
Check this thread and you'll find a tutorial how you can fix it but you can't do it 10.6 again just 908.

You don't need vidpid fix, just use ftprog and rewrite eeprom, change extension from .ept to .xml

I think you need VCDS 908 cracked for your interface not 10.6.0

hi, I have a big problem with my VAG Com 106, he came to China yesterday, I installed it on my computer everything goes smoothly it is detected as ROOSSTECH USB driver installation goes well and I run VAG 10.6.0 program that came on the cd this morning I plug the cable into a hearing it is a communication error and then the cable is detected as "USB-SERIAL" in the device manager with a question mark yellow. I'm just not buying it and now he still use that making kidding?

Becasue the VCDS 10.5 clones from China has firmwear 1.81 and it works with cracked softwear.
To acces this protocols you need a VCDS 10.6 with firmwear 1.83.
Maybe there another reasons but with your tool you'll cannot acces that protocols.

Becasue the VCDS 10.5 clones from China has firmwear 1.81 and it works with cracked softwear.
To acces this protocols you need a VCDS 10.6 with firmwear 1.83.

you need a newer software version , post the exact VAG number of the control modul.

In the folder named "UDS_EV" in VCDS directory I have the two .rod files (EV_ECM30TDI0118R0907401J.rod and EV_ECM30TDI8R0907401J.rod).

In the folder named "UDS_EV" in VCDS directory I have the two .rod files (EV_ECM30TDI0118R0907401J.rod and EV_ECM30TDI8R0907401J.rod).
But you tell me that the ASAM protocol need 1.83 fw...
My 10.6.0 clone have fw 1.81...

firmware 1.83 is needed only with version 10.6.1 and above to access basic setting on UDS protocol

Try to do this this procedure before try top connect to your car:
1. Plug the interface to to the car and put the ignition to ON ( not start the engine )
2. Plug it to the USB
3. Run The VCDS softwear
Sometimes the softwears ( if you don't do this procedure ) the sw not become Fully Activated , maybe will a cause
And try to acces another controler in your car to see if you can to connect to it ( like ABS )

I can real all modules (like ABS) but I don't read Engine module...

I tried this with my Chinese 232rl clone and showed cable not connected or ready, I forget. Reinstalled 908 that came with cable and it worked. Got it out today to use and VCDS says cable not found. It finds a new device and asks for drivers.I have uninstalled and reinstalled VCDS many times. No change. I can not see it with ftprog as it's not installed.
It is listed as Rosstech Hex-USB. Any ideas? I've tried to read up, but with past posts being blocked and the others are kind of all run together. It's a mix of all different adapters with different requirements. Any help would be much appreciated.

You'll fnd everything you need.

If you want to reflash the FTDI you can use MPROG or FTPROG with an *.EPT file that you find in the link above.

You don't need to do anything in those chips: 93c46, mcp2515, mcp2551,x548810z5.

If you have a FT232BL you dont need to reflash the PALCE16V8H. If you have FT232RL maybe you need to reflash PALCE16V8H. Read the link above and you'll find that out.

Are you sure, ross-tech has same prices from a long time.
But never mind with this, one of us bought their interface for themselves. I can't say it is a fortune to buy from ross-teck but if I use it from time to time why should I buy from ross-tech, that's because we have this oportunity.
Ok if you have a garage and use it for your bussines, yes, the best solution it is a genuine tool.

I downloaded and repeated all the above operations.

for each version of the program at startup I get the message: Error cable not found = -1;

If you have interface with ft232bl it will not work with that china program. Use original program and drivers.

Like German, French,Romanian, Russian, Polish, Czech from what I know but take care you haven't item for free.
For example I try to find the dumps for 908.2 in romanian but I haven't find it with or without money. So... what can I wish you?

This tool works just with VCDS Lite
Ste the virtual com port first between 1 and 4 and the lattency at 2. Do not try to select the USB just com 1,2,3 or 4 .
Then plug the tool into the care and make a test.

What you have to do nest is to change the latency at 2
Taka a look there that it said "Latency Test Poor"
The latency is at 16 and you have to change at 2 and you'll have a good latency.

Go to the Device manager, the go to the Com & LPT to your virtual com ( let's say com1) - right click - properties - Advance - and then chang teh latency from 16 to 2.

M8 now go to plug it into the car and then make a test and after that test you'll be able to accest the modules.
What modules you want to acces if you don't plugg the interface into the car?

What you have to do next is to try to see if you can connect to other car becasue if you did this setting and you have that replay when you tested with the interface plugged into the car it is not ok.
I mean it is something wrong with the interface.
The led in turned on, that's indicate that the interface is plugged and you have 12V, if you don't you have also 2 choices:
1 the interface is burned I mean the K line or the care dosen't supplie 12V for it.
What you have to do next is to check and to try into another car.

This is it you have nothing to do to upgrade it.
I haven't seen a solution for this kind of interface (ft232RL inside) for upgrading, just for 908.

Let me understand, did you also reprogramm the GAL or just this is need reprogrammed when you did an accidentally update.

Redump Gal is normally only needet if using vcds interfaces with ftdi...rl...after update no need...

For me the interfaces work...with 10.6.0 but i ordered old ones..5xx..but they are also new pcb with stc protection chip..but still on ftdi bl-bm...

I dont know much about..Normally redump Gal is only need together with modding wires between gal and ftdi... if used ftdi ..rl...

But have also had some interafces 805 which after replacing each piece on pcb and redump every eprom atmega..etc didnt work...

I am not using 10.6.0 with this kind of rl based pcb..

But i am running 5 vcds with this rl based pcb on german and french language with no problem..

redumped Gal Atmega162 ftdi and works...

For interfaces with FT232Rl , there is two cases:

1 - if your interface is designed to work with original software , you need only to reprogram Atmega and FTDI eeprom and to use original software ( the version that correspond to your Atmega dump).

2 - if your chinese interface is designed to work with modified software , you have to reprogram Atmega and FTDI eeprom and Gal (Gal dump is available in other forums) and to desolder some components and to solder some wires (as i explained in a previous post ) , you need also a modified software that correspond to your Atmega dump (i posted it in a previous post for 908 version).

don't buy Chinese interfaces that work with modified software , they have also other problems , like transistors that burns when we use the interface for a long time or in a car with bad voltage or bad connections.

Those interfaces are better quality :

Yes it's true that the connector break , but for me a broken connector is better than a broken interface.
In those interfaces , there is two models of PCB , both are good.
I know that this model has transistors , but they don't burn.
I sold a very big quantity of those interfaces with 12 months warranty , and i never got a problem with transistors.

There is not only single color led in this model , you can ask the seller to send you interfaces with bicolor led in this model. the difference of price between signle color and bicolor interfaces is small.

I said that this model is better but not the best , because the best interface is the original :top:

The GAL dump is the same for all original versions.

The difference between cloned versions (805 , 908 , 10.6) is the content of the Atmega eeprom (serial number , encrypted serial number , production time and date , and checksums ) , for a newer software version , you need a newer Atmega eeprom dump , because Rosstech add the old serial number to blacklist in the new software version.

How Rosstech detect that a serial numbers is used in cloned interfaces ?
when you use a cloned interface in a computer , the serial number is stored into hard disk (dX.bin files) , and when you start your computer with an internet connection , the VCDS is executed in hidden mode and send serial number of the interface read from hard disk to Rosstech server . when Rosstech find that the same serial number is used in lot of computers in the five continents , they know that is a cloned interface , because each original interface has its unique serial number and can not be at the same day in 100 different country.
As soon as the serial number is blacklisted , the Rosstech server send message to your computer saying that the interface is a clone and that the interface should be damaged , the next time you connect your interface to this computer , a counter in the Atmega eeprom is initialized , after this initialization , the interface works about 20 times ( or less if you use autoscan function) .
This is the reason for why , you must add address of Rosstech server to the host file. to prevent communication between software and Ross server.
In the next version this serial number will be add to software blacklist (encrypted and stored in vcds.exe file).

also this model is with transistors and single color led

but in Chinese the appearance of the product means nothing
may put different pcb in same connector box :proud:

For breaking problem you can use obd2 female- obd2 male extender, in this way you prevent plugging interface directly to car (it cost 4 $)

it will work if you solder bicolor led but the value of the resistor is not the same for red and green led , the value should be calculated.

Yes , i got this problem but with only one interface like that , and i got it also with another original interface with FT232R. it can work only with 704 version. for higher versions you need a modified soft without reprogramming GAL.

The value is not tabu. if on resistor write 1k (102) is ok from 470 ohm to 2k...

On my VCDS the value is "681"=> 680 ohm.

The second resistor..680 ohm ... 1k is ok.
And on my PCB appear LED cathode to ground, so, use one "Bicolor Led Common Cathode"

yes this software works but with 908.1 and newer not with 908.0. And no it can not be modified to work with 232BL becouse it uses 93c46 eeprom and 232rl uses larger size like 93c56 but intergreated .

Ask seller send u pictures from pcb of vcds,and ask if u can get vcds with BM or BL ftdi instaead of RL...with this config u can always reprogram your interface to make it work again.

Before do an AutoScan take a look in ABOUT where is the licence and if there it isn't a message like Full Registred /Activated you can do a full AutoScan and it will scan just 2-3 controlers.
Make like this:
1. Plug the tool into the OBD connector, then into the USB and start the VCDS and then do an AutoScan.
Tell me if it's working.

Muahahaha...i can ...no problem...my vcds works...so...

What i mean is...put your vcds to receicle bin..and buy one ftdi bm or bl based...no rl and no 10.xx

Buy old style obd interface...unsolder stc chip if present..and good is..

The interfaces which need cracked soft to work are just crap...

if you want to have your interface working with VCDS 10.6 software, you need to refresh the interface with the correct dump for it. Means dump for VCDS 10.6 - not free up to now.

I also have a chinese clone 10.6 who didn't do complete autoscan
I opened the cable to see if is has an ft232RLor ft232BL.
Mine has ft232PL.
Any body knows something about it ??
The cable works fine , only scan stops after 3 modules.
I test almost all 10.6.2 that I could find here and there but the cable wont work in autoscan mode ( Passat b5 1998)

edit :Finnaly I believe that the part inside is FT232RL because FT232PL IMHO doesn' exist .

Chinese VAS 5054 is the same piece of crap.
Some tried it on a car with UDS protocols.

Genuine or good clone interface for VCDS is much better than VAS-PC.
