hi posting for a friend who needs a bit advice, his daughter owns a nissan almera 2001 uk plate,of recent times its started jumping out of 5th gear,is there anyone here had similar troubles and what was the cure to the problem, any pointers where to start looking for to resolve it,my friend is mechanically minded and will be able to fix the problem, but 1st wants to find out if it could be something simple, before he starts removing parts from the veichle, and before he goes down the route of gearbox change ect
thanks in advance

That fault is internal gearbox fault, so there is no simple or quick solution.
Don't now how much they are cost from scrapyard or how much would be repair original one. I would go for another used gearbox.

Probably LARUE is right with internal fault of tranny. Nevertheless your friend might wanna check the linkage first and the spring loaded gear retainers, which could be weak. On this model I think they can be serviced without pulling transmission.

As Teuton said check the linkage first before pulling the box out, have a look under bonnet get someone to put it in 5th gear see what moves what way on g\box and then make sure its in 100% by moving rod \ lever on g\box
