I've got the chance of a Mondeo 2.0 TDCi (mk3) for my Vectra V6 which I would seriously like to get as i'm doing about 200miles a day now and cant afford that amount of fuel in a v6 petrol.

The problem with the mondeo is it cuts out, he says it can run for about 20mins then cut out, then it will start up first time straight away again, he has had it on the diagnostics and got the following print out.... he's changed the fuel pump and its still doing it.

P0251 is just a generic fault code that appears in conjunction with another code, in your case P1211.

FIX ... correct P1211 and it will go away. (HINT.... read TSB46/2006, just like it said)

If I remember right, that TSB is about injectors leakbacks test. How to do it.
So dissconnect injectors electrical plugs and leakback pipes, disconnect plug from fuel metering valve to alow fuel pump give maximum rail pressure, connect leakback test tool ( clear plastic pipes) to injectors leakbacks and crank the engine for five seconds......there is a test in IDS for that to monitor rail pressure. If fuel amount in pipe is longer than 20 cm, replace injector. Hopefully only one. I would recomend after replacing injector retest again. This test can't be done NOT more than two times to avoid damage of fuel injection system.

just got off the phone to him and now it doesn't start since he changed the fuel filter today, he said it was just turning over then eventually fired into life and kept it running for about 20mins then when hes turned it off it wont start again.

I would check the rail pressure and injectors leakbacks first. These injectors are just....bad.
They are giving loads of troubles and symptoms sounds like there is a problem with them.
Anyway. Needs more checking and testing to sort out what's wrong with Your car.

If I were to get this and say some of the injectors needed changed do they need to be programmed or just simply changed?

They are programmed.

Hi mate
Replace the fuel filter and clean the tank as well. By the way it is the cheapest and the fastest thing you can do.
Cheers

I had a transit van with these issues. What is happening is that the desired and actual rail pressure are not following each other, that there is a difference of +/- 50 bar. Watch it under datalogger when driving.

So it can be caused by air in the supply system, a fuel restriction, poor injectors with excessive leak off or sticky nozzles or an issue with the common rail pump.

It will need a systematic approach starting with the simplest things then getting to a possible pump replacement. The tsb mentioned details it quite a lot.

The ids will allow you to do leak off checking for injectors as well as a pressure test of the pump. This will help you tell what is at fault.

Hope this helps

So how much would I be looking at to get a garage to do it as I don't have a computer to do it unless I can buy one, similar to opcom for vauxhalls?

I don't think there is any cheap tool for ford. In my opinion it would be better to get in some garage to do job properly, because these faults are not wery easy to diagnose and labor costs will be depending from what's causing a problem. If it is some of injectors, they ar not difficult to diagnose and change, but if there is some another thing what's causing a problem, it will take a longer time.
So I would recommend get car to some garage and don't mess with it by Yourself, because it's nearly impossible to diagnose this without tools.

think i could end up giving it a miss then as no doubt it will cost hundreds upon hundreds for a garage to sort

look m8, Ford Mondeo 2.0 tdci has INJECTION DELPHI, im Diselest and almost time i have like this problems for Ford : mondeo, Focus .....TDCI and for renault too 1.5Dci with injection delphi. 100% the problem is the injectors u can go to a dieselest to check the injectors and their Leakback. if u want not to change all the 4 injectors completly there is other solutions to change just the Control Valve inside the injector it will be cheaper.

by they way ask for the control valve 9308-621C it work good for injectors tdci for mondeo.

good luck

Where in IDS do you find the leakback test and rail pressure test for the tdci ?

Its under the toolbox heading, then engine or driveability from memory
