I'm a little confused.. So.. if you use this program, you don't need lego indiana jones or wheelie breaker game to mod your 4.3E wii? What i realized is that with this program i can downgrade my wii 4.3e to 4.2 without any game. am i right?

Cheers for this (including the confirmation of the Glee working - for wifey!).

Same as others on 3.2E and not used for ages. Its just softmodded already. . . but seems an upgrade is worthwhile.

if your backup wont work on your 4.3 but will on another then the chance is that you have a d3-2 drive that cant play backups from disc.
if its an older wii thats been updated try burning a quality dvd-r like verbatim burning with imgburn slowly.

Why did you update HackMII which is HBC if it was working ok?

You can get the latest Homebrew here (http://bootmii.org/download/) thats the one I used.

Which USB Loader did you use and did you have to re wad anything?

Welcome to the forum.

Fingers crossed, don't brick on me.
You won't brick it providing you install Homebrew then install BootMii then Prepare the SD card (must be a 2GB SD card), then from Homebrew have Priiloader in the apps folder on the SD card and install that.

After you have done that you should be able to run BootMii from Priiloader is you press the Reset button and select BootMii then use the Power button to navigate to the arrow button on the right then press Reset. Then press Reset again to copy your NAND to the SD card.

You need to put your SD card in a computer and copy the bootmii folder and keys.bin and nand.bin of the SD root to somewhere very safe as you will needs these files to un-brick your Wii should it happen.

I've never seen a bricked Wii but if everything is unusable then you won't access anything. You press the Rest button then power it up to run Priiloader then select BootMii.

Keithuk

Does this work with sdhc cards???
No, even though v4.0 and above are setup to use SDHC cards up to 32GB its HBC that doesn't recongnise them.

I softmodded my friends a couple of weeks ago and I put HBC on his 4GB SDHC card. I copied the save game of the SD card to the Wii no problem and ran LEGO Indiana Jones but when it searched for info on the SD card it couldn't find it. I went home and fetched my 2GB SD card and put the same files on it and it worked perfectly.

Once HBC is up and running you can use an SDHC card?

Hi folks,
Just joined the site, seems like the right place for me!

Had a Wii for about 4yrs, got a Wiikey shortly after the kids trashed a disc and been running back ups since.

Until recently that is, when they all stopped working. Originals are fine so I presumed, 4 yrs on, I could trust them with the originals. Didn't take long for them to prove me wrong despite warning them to take care of the discs!!:banghead:

Just need to find a suitable SD card and a little time now.

I updgraded my Wii to version 4.3e after it was softmodded beforehand. Do I need to use the LIJ game to softmod it again, or just extract to the apps folder and follow the instructions?
Hi, I'm in the same vote. Usb loader no longer works, and I have to remod. What method did you end up using, TIA

My kids accidently updated their softmodded wii to 4.3e. Lost homebrew but can still use uloader to play games. If I use this will I be able to use the 4.2e softmod guide to reinstall homebrew or would I be better off using the 4.3e method. I don't have any of the games needed but i'm sure I can get them.

So you have softmodded it but you need to sort out your USB Loader now?

What system menu are you using?

I'm not sure what you mean by

"Got stuck with the remote disconnecting when running the USB Loader"

My remote works on all 3 of my USB Loaders?

Got so stuck I have formatted everything.

You haven't formatted the Wii have you?

Digital Kaos - Downloads - modmii 4.3.4 (http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/downloads/wii/16/modmii-4-3-4-1405/)

I've had trouble with slow accessing the web for the last day or so on my desktop computer so I decided to do a full Malwarebytes scan and the only thing it brought up was a Trojan.Downloader in ModMii.exe from this rar file. Now I haven't used any files in this rar download so I deleted it.

I've made the same comment in the download section but it hasn't shown up yet, if it will?

The very nature of the modmii file is an exploit so I would be surprised if it didn't show up on virus/malware scan but I will keep an eye out for anything strange thanks for the heads up

Hi
For last two days I was trying to softmod my wii 4.3U, for the first time. Initially I was so confused with IOS cIOS and wad etc.. Now after two days all I got is HBC and GX Loader V1.0. I got WD 500 GB HDD and for trial i have 10 GB partition which i formatted using WBFS Manager.

When I plug my hdd to usb port near the edge of wii and start GX Loader it shows my games from HDD however, when i click on the spinning disk of the game, the black screen comes for infinate time. so on next day i tried many u-tube tutorial etc, but no luck. Do you think I should erase everything from my SD Card and use this guide instead? or it will uninstall my HBC? Also, I dont have any games which can be used to exploit the wii, so Will this guide work without those games?

I may be asking too many questions, but I m quite bewildered by this wii world.

Hope to get answer soon.

PS: If you guys have any video guide let me know that too.

Welcome to the forum.

Now after two days all I got is HBC and GX Loader V1.0.

Well I assume your talking about USB Loader GX but I've never heard of v1.0. You can download the latest version from their own web site USB Loader GX 2.3 (http://usbloadergx.koureio.net/downloads). Its an exe USBLoaderGX_Installer.exe that you run from your computer is doesn't install anything on your computer it just installs USB Loader GX on the SD card so make should its plugged in before you run it.

You may as well delete the \apps\usbloader_gx folder on the SD card so as not to confuse the setup. It also makes a [config] folder on the SD card to store settings and game pictures you may as well delete that as well then you will have to download the game pictures again.

Never believe any videos on YouTube some will give you an indication but there is alot of bull on there.

USB Loader GX tutorial (http://gbatemp.net/topic/149922-usb-loader-gx/)

Now the only IOS you have to install for any of the 3 main USB Loaders is cIOS249.

I got WD 500 GB HDD and for trial i have 10 GB partition which i formatted using WBFS Manager.

A 10GB HDD partion isn't really big enough it will only hold a few games use all the drive.

There is no need to uninstall HBC.

I use USB Loader GX 95% of the time the only little niggle with it I don't like is downloading the game pics. You have to click on the 5th icon along the top the one with text and a line down the right. Click on any picture and you will see Cover Download put a tick in each box then click OK. You will see a message saying Found missing images.

With the other 2 USB Loaders you click on the Main button on the bottom. Click on Updates and click on Download missing covers at the top that will download all missing images.

So hopefully this will do it.

Yes this is getting an old thread by todays standards.

If you have softmodded 4.3U and 4.3E consoles with LetterBomb then you should be up to date verison wise as 4.3 is the last one made, as far as I know.

Do the online 4.3 update then you can use LetterBomb (http://hackmii.com/2011/08/letterbomb/) which will softmod only then you need to sort out your USB Loaders.

Oh Excellent thanks, I was just reading the letterbomb page when you posted this.

R4 has just stopped being recognised.
Stripped it down and cleaned the contacts a bit (just using an earbud, no chemicals) screwed it all back up and nothing.... shame :( just got her a couple of good things.

So I basically do an online update to 4.3 then letterbomb?
The loaders I assume are the ones available on the main page?

Thanks for all your help, the last wii I had was 1 week after release date and was hardware modded lol :)

Yes LetterBomb will only softmod the same as Hackmii does. Now the LetterBomb site doesn't give you alot of instructions but the LetterBomb.zip txt files do. Now I haven't used LetterBomb but with the older Hackmii 1.0.8 you had 3 options to install.

1. Homebrew - softmod
2. BootMii on IOS with 4.3
3. Prepare SD card - this write the [bootmii] folder on the SD card so you can do the NAND backup which is the very first job you must do after softmodding.

In README-Bootmii.txt it says how to do a NAND Backup/Restore but the instructions are limited. I have talked about this last week http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f16/4-3-mod-157379/index19.html#post1391963

Then you need to install PriiLoader 0.7 on the same page.

Then you need to sort out the USB Loader there are tutorials on here. There are 3 main USB Loaders but the best one is USB Loader GX in my opinion.

Then you will need a large external hard drive preferably a mains powered one to add all your games onto.

I went onto the LetterBomb site before Christmas so I could download the LetterBomb.zip to see what files were in there. I entered my MAC number and downloaded the zip file.

I looked on my Wii for the LetterBomb message but it never came.

Excellent, thank you very much.

I've gotten up to the priiLoader install but don't seem to be able to get any further. The SD card never seems to be recongised as having anything on it.

"Press any button to continue"
Be sure all the wads install, very important

Well I forgot to mension in my other post you need a 2GB SD card to softmod even though 4.0+ Wii's will take a 32GB SDHC card.

If I try and install PriiLoader now I get errors stating something about CIOS....

Also don't seem to be able to get MMM to actually appear and load :(

You may notice at the top of the PriiLoader screen is says something link uses IOS58 did you install that with MMM first?

If MMM doesn't load then download it again, just extract the MMM folder out of Digital Kaos - Downloads - Usbloader gx 2.3 r1128 and d2x v7 with mmm 13.4 (http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/downloads/wii/16/usbloader-gx-2-3-r1128-d2x-v7-mmm-13-4-1872/)

Does PriiLoader install at all? It will show can't find password file but you ignore that.

Put sysCheck (http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/downloads/wii/16/syscheck-v2-1-0-beta-11-1918/) in the apps folder on the SD card and post the report.

I have a Kingston 8gb drive which is seen, so i know what it should do.

But when I plug my "Maxtor Personal Storage 3100 300GB" which is listed in the compatible drive listing USB Devices Compatibility List - WikiTemp (http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/USB_Devices_Compatibility_List#300GB)
it just reboots. I have tried plugging into both ports, with and without the "COPY_TO_USB" files and plugging it in once I load the USB loader program.

The drive is formatted as NTFS and is full, so I don't want to format until I know it is going to work.

Any help would be most grateful as I don't want to buy a new drive is possible.

This hack won't but you could try WiiMC (http://www.wiimc.org/) on your SD card and run it from HBC, if it plays the DVD you could install the forwarder channel from the Download section on there.

I have tried at least half a dozen "tutorials" and have yet to have one that works on a 4.2e
I keep trying to use a Loader GFX and it says I need cIos 222 i have tried 5.1 installer to update to 222 but it locks up... any ideas?

Well I don't know whats that different with 4.2E but USB Loader GX and the other two use cIOS249 by default or cIOS222, cIOS250. I've said before I wouldn't bother with Uloader 5.1.

Which tutorials have you been following?

Right, I have followed the modmii tut to the tee. I have USB Loader channel, I have used WiiBackupManager to format the drive (I am using a 16gb Sandisk Cruzer Slice) in WBFS and to transfer a Wii back up game (007 Goldeneye). When I point and click on the channel page, USB Loader says 'Please connect a USB drive'. If I click on start it shows a splash page for a split second and resets. Any Ideas? Also as a noob is there a Glossery for all the WAD's, cIOS's, IOS's? If I had an idea what they did It'd be a start!!

make sure that you have the drive in the correct port if its lying down its the bottom one.
try using Digital Kaos - Downloads - wbfs manager 3 (http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/downloads/wii/16/wbfs-manager-3-1085/) to format the drive and to load your isos

I have playing with loads of drives over the weekend - mostly with no luck, various USB controllers.

You need to remember to make the partition active and have the 2 folders ("apps" and "usb-loader") on the drive.

Thanks guys. So just a sanity check. The USB drive has to have 2 x partitions, one FAT32 partition to house the usb-loader and wbfs folders and another WBFS partition to house the game image? I have just been formatting the USB drive in WBFS and using WiiBackupManager to put the game image on.

Just format the whole thing as FAT32 and WiiBackupManager will put the images in the WBFS folder

Not really if it is a small drive format it all to fat 32 wii backup manager will create a wbfs folder on the drive to house the games and usb loader gx is happy to read from a fat 32 drive, but remember your gx folder must be inside your apps folder on the drive

Almost that simple, just read and follow the instructions to the letter but you need to use a maximum size of 2gb sd (not sdhc) card for the install it cannot be done via usb flash drive

You don't need a game to softmod a 4.3 Wii anymore just use LetterBomb (http://hackmii.com/2011/08/letterbomb/) which ModMii tells you to use.

Now the strange thing with ModMii (http://code.google.com/p/modmii/downloads/list) is when you select USB Loaders it only adds CFG USB Loader and WiiFlow to the COPY_TO_SD folder. I wonder why they don't add USB Loader GX which is the best of the lot?

Welcome to DK poolprop.

If you didn't have a NAND backup before then you may as well redo the softmod with LetterBomb (http://hackmii.com/2011/08/letterbomb/) but this time install PriiLoader 0.7 (http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/downloads/wii/16/priiloader-v0-7-1603/) so it won't do anymore updates as you can block disc and online updates.

If USB Loader GX used to work ok before then install d2x v.7.0 Final (http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/downloads/wii/16/d2x-v7-final-1913/) with MMM.

Are you still able to play and use skylanders Portal of power within a backup of the game?

No you need one of the USB Loaders along with the appropriate wads installing so you can play games of an external USB HDD.

There are plenty of thread on here if you search, the common and the best one is USB Loader GX.

You first job is to softmod with LetterBomb (http://hackmii.com/2011/08/letterbomb/) and do all the 3 install options then do a NAND backup (http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f16/4-3-mod-157379/index16.html).

Thanks Keith for the help and welcome.
Had a look at Letterbomb site which seems pretty straight forward. By all 3 install options are these part of the Letterbomb install?
Is there any need to install modmii with Letterbomb?

Thanks again

Keithuk
20th August, 2012, 01:51 AM
Well the 3 parts to any softmod are:

1. Install Homebrew.
2. Install BootMii.
3. Prepare SD card - this writes the [bootmii] folder with 3 files on the SD card so you can do a NAND backup straight afterwards, don't forget this part.

You will need a 2GB SD not SDHC card to add the Letterbomb.zip files onto after its been formatted FAT32. You need the SD card in the Wii before you click on messages.

Letterbomb in ModMii has been talked about before on here they don't call it Letterbomb they call it something else. You shouldn't need to use ModMii I never have only for the sysCheck.csv update afterwards.

20th August, 2012, 10:46 PM
Thanks for the reply Keith. Was playing around last night and managed to get the HBC and Bootmii installed no problem and did a NAND backup.
Had a problem with USB loader GX though (will ask this question in a different post too) but it seems to have installed ok it just won't detect the HDD thats connected. I think this will likely be fixed by installing another cIOS (which it says it can't detect at the start) but does the HDD need to be in WBFS format, FAT or FAT32 and do I just copy a disc ISO into the HDD?

Many thanks again

Keithuk

You really need to start a new thread as this one is for modmii 4.3.4 which is an older version but this thread has been going for a long time.

There are quite a few threads that talk about the HDD isn't recognised have a browse through those first. There are various reasons why the drive isn't recognised.

We will talk about that in your new thread that you make. Post a sysCheck (http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/downloads/wii/16/syscheck-v2-1-0-beta-17-2071/) as instructed in that link in the new thread. That will show if you have the correct wads/cIOS's installed.

after downloading make sure you run the update to keep you up todate

The New Interactive Download Wizard makes Modding Wii's Easier than Ever!

Complete With Custom Guide Generator

Use this program to easily, automatically and legally set-up your SD card with the required files to fully softmod ANY Wii, and up/downgrade to firmwares 4.3, 4.2, 4.1 and 3.2 (Support for all wii's: U,E,J,K and even Region Changed Wii's)

If your using 4.3 then use LetterBomb (http://hackmii.com/2011/08/letterbomb/) to softmod it. Then there are plenty of threads that talk about getting USB Loaders working, plus Wii downloads (http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/dlcat-wii-16/).

how about games that are more than 4GB on fat 32 hdd! can that work??

An average iso game will be 4.5GB unless its a wbfs which can be a quarter of that size. So your hard drive or flash drive has to be big enough to hold all your games. I've had 4 wbfs games on a 4GB flash drive and they all played as they should do.

If you use WBFS Manager then there isn't a problem only you have to convert any wbfs files to iso first. It you using a FAT32 drive I believe there is a limit to some on these double density games they have to split the wbfs file into two parts wbfs and wbf1.

So it all comes down to the size of the drive you want to store all your games. Think ahead if you have say 20 games then a 40GB drive will do but as time goes on you will need a bigger and bigger drive. Go for the biggest mains powered USB HDD that you can afford and it must be compatible as not all drives are.

how about games that are more than 4GB on fat 32 hdd! can that work??

As keith says iso's are 4.37 gb but the way it works is that when you add games to your fat 32 drive using wiibackup manager (wbfs manager cannot add games to fat 32 drive) it will automatically convert games to wbfs which as keith says is much less than iso (this depends on game content as they are all different sizes once converted) so the only time you will have a file over 4 gb is with a dual later game which wiibackup manager will split into two files but during playback of any dual layer game the transition from one file to the other is seamless so you will never notice it.....Which in laymens terms means the file size limit on a fat 32 drive isn't an issue

Skylanders Giants is a special game that needs a special controller which you buy in the package not a USB Loader.

I have no idea about any of this, I'm doing this on behalf of my son. Just want the disc or the USB version to play normally with the portal working normally. Thanks all and Merry Christmas!!!

Are you referring to the portal that is connected via USB? I've copied the game disc with the USB loader to get around the disc error problem, that worked BUT the portal is now not recognized. I'll post the syscheck shortly, thanks.

I downloaaded Skylanders Giants and it won't work without the portal that comes with the game package.

I've never seen a sysCheck with all those many Trucha Bug wads. It an old sysCheck because Homebrew is running on IOS61.

Because you have the sysCheck.csv from the sysCheck which is on the root of the CD card. Download ModMii 2.3 (http://code.google.com/p/modmii/downloads/list) and run it from Windows. On the main menu type in SU and type in the location of the sysCheck.csv. Its easier to put this on the root of a drive as it saves typo's.

That will download all wads and apps that are missing into a COPY_TO_SD sub folder. Add all files and folders to your SD card and run Homebrew with the SD card inserted.

First of run IOS236 Installer from Homebrew and install IOS36 as IOS236. Come back out and run Multi-Mod-Manager and select WAD Manager this will default to the wad folder install all wads in there. Watch for the Installed OK message after each one. If any don't install just try them again.

Now ModMii only installs 2 d2x v8.0 wads so you may as well install all the others. d2x v8 Final wad pack (http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/downloads/wii/16/d2x-v8-final-wad-pack-2048/)

Then post a new sysCheck.

Used the guides on here to setup up my Wii to use a HDD as the drive packed in last year, :)

After a year in the loft due to not being played I am amazed that it still works with all the news games such as Rise Of The Guardians without me having to download or update anything

I use WiiFlow to browse and launch my game and all seem to work

Will check my system version and decide whether or not to update

Thanks guys
