If you want to hack a wireless connection, piggy back or monitor someones activity, OR test your own network security, RUSSIX is the one (needs the right network card).

aircrack is the dogs dangleys but aireplay for packet injection doesn't work on xp, only linux, so you could be waiting a while to get enough packets :(

Russix does not install, it is what is called a live cd. You have to BOOT from the cd.
Russix uses aircrack-ng and kismet to hack wep and wpa but it is made simple and straight forward with Russix. I Now use backtrack 3 beta for compatability reasons which is fun and can be installed or even better can be installed within windows using VMWARE.
Remember the right wireless hardware is essential, the wireless adapter has to be capable of injection otherwise a simple 4 minute wep key could take weeks to break.

What your referring too is hardware capable of entering promiscuous mode. I always throw out the card that comes with any laptop, and replace with a CM9 or such and add a secondary BNC socket to the rear of the laptop for "other things :)"

I am referring to network devices supported by backtrack or russix driver support.
here is a list.
http://wiki.remote-exploit.org/index.php/HCL:Wireless
Also just as crucial is that the device not only goes in monitor mode but also is able to inject packets at the AP, injecting packets greatly speed up wep crack from say possible 4 weeks....guess......to say 4 mins lol , also injection is used in other attacks
tutorial for aircrack-ng (included in backtrack and russix)
looks a bit comples at first sight but does become clearer

'It is not a script kiddy phishing tool and as such, while it will allow you to break a WEP key in 6 key strokes and conduct an "Evil Tiny Twin" attack in less than 5 ...'
is it really this simple and what card would this work on?

Which interface you after?
PCMCIA
PCI
USB
I bought a new laptop that did not support PCMCIA so I had to buy a USB adapter
