i have the same problem. i have smart forfour 2005 and not work read etacs with enigma. mesage is error bdm is not active

it must work !...
but you must see there is 2 versions of ETACS , one is continental and one is vdo , both of them can be reading very simple even with UPAUSB.

i did this car earlier this year biggest mistake ever enigma totally screwed it up my advice put it back together if its starts and runs more than 20 minutes then never touch it again ,let some one else have the hassles its not worth the 120 quid wages

Knok right this is easy and not protect
upa ok for this with 4 wire
connection easy see nyo4 ok
