I am trying to apply for 1st line support in the I.T sector, even help desk related.

What is more useful to have. ITIL qulaification or a microsoft cert?

Obviousily I will try to get more credentials over the time when i save up. but what should i focus more on now?

you generally have to do a helpdesk position first, its like an apprenticeship or a right of passage.. tbh with regards to the certs it best to get the MS exams first... ITIL exams apply more to people who have been in the game a while as it is more about process rather than dealing with the tech support side... A+ exmas are quite common as well and some places like them.. Just stick with what you will be using for now as the hight ones will be irrellant for now. and the business changes so much they can be out of date and wasted by the time you get to a level that you may even use them..

YOu have to start at the bottom and support the end user, no systems admin guy will let you on his systems with levels of access that could bring down the company until you have a good amount of time on the job behind you...

good luck..

These two companys have test centres around the UK where you can sit the A+ or network + exams.

You can do all the study you want at home if you want, have a good search on the net for downloads of Comptia A+ and Network + study material. anything from ebooks CD/DVD sets of training material, and test engines.

Computer-Based Testing Provider for Certification and Licensure Exams: Pearson VUE (http://www.vue.com/)

Prometric Services: Testing and Assessment (http://www.prometric.com/Default.htm)

CompTIA (http://www.comptia.org/home.aspx)

will explain about the exams

No. they are the 1st steps in certs IMO. they can get your foot through the door though.

You used to be able to use A+ or Network+ certs as credits towards certain Microsoft certs, Don't know if you still can use them? someone else will know.

Think you still sit 2 exams (hardware and software) for A+ and sit one exam for network+

Also have alook at Cisco IT essentials 1 & 2, I think they are called some firms prefer these I've heard.
