Put bran, sugar and milk into bowl and mix.
Set aside for at least an hour,(my mother used to mix it on saturday evening and bake it on sunday morning, I mix it on sunday morning and bake it sunday teatime)
After it has stood for the alloted time, mix in the flour and the egg, it needs to be a slightly sloppy cake mixture, if too dry, add a little more milk, if too sloppy, add a little more flour.
Pour into greased bread tin and cook in preheated oven at 180c for 55mins/1 hour
Allow to cool on a wire tray, keep in airtight container, (will keep for at least a week)
