Logged on this morning to a page that said my password had expired, and I needed to put in a new one,
I was a bit wary at first but put new password in anyway,
I'm just curious why this is, I've never seen this anywhere else, even with my online banking.

for obvious reasons m8 to reduce the risk off your account being hacked, this happens to every one who dosnt change the pass after a period of time. a wise precaution. and it does happen, imagine what kaos it would cause if admin or a mods pass was hacked.

ya i was gonna say its depends on the server and forum and hows it setup
whether it has the password expire setup and the mods or admin would of
been the peeps to ask but its sorted it now ^^

that's fair enough, to stop my account being hacked,
but there's one big flaw with the system
my current password was already there, all I needed to do was put new password in, how is this going to stop anyone hacking/hijacking my account, wouldn't an email notification be more safe

all that can done though the settings with the server they just need to enable them but changing your password on the site is more secure than sending an email which is less secure because they dont maintain the security of that site and email accounts can be compromised thats why some important sites dont email stuff like that to them. the best defense is protecting the password and keep renewing it every so often.

Some kind of warning would be nice, had a choice of missing a bus, or changing DK password. HAD to change password - missed bus.
It would not let me use the last password again (Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious)
So ended up changing it to this:-

I tried that, but it wouldn't let me have a previously used password,
I just think it's a bit to much having to change password every 90 days,
not even my online banking, or paypal, doesn't ask me to keep changing passwords.

Oh ok, so (MAKE THIS BIT UP FOR SECURITY REASONS)

what I'm having to do now is,
say my password was, "jigglybits",
I'm now going to use "jigglybits1", then "jigglybits2" and so on,
it's the only way i will be able to remember them, this way I only have to add or change a number,
I still don't get why we have to change the password every 90 days.

tshirtman, if you can associate some event to coincide with the need for a password change then you are flying.
Me, how I remember is that every time I change my underwear I remember to change my password.:thrasher::thrasher::thrasher:

yes that's basically what I tried, it said something like
"you cannot use the same password you have used within a 365 day period"
or something like that.
anyways I'll use the way i said on earlier post.
gotta get my daily DK fix
thanx for the suggestions.

*BUMP*
Meant to say a few days after the last post in this thraeds.
At the time this thread was 'active' my password was 'dietcoke*'
it expired and the server accepted 'digitalvideo*' - now expired again and just used my original password of 'dietcoke*'.
So perhaps other members of Team DK could add to this thread
* I'm lieing - if you hadn't guessed

WHAT why leave the worlds BEST website.
VERY VERY simple answer - what ever your password is now - just reverse it next time - then forward the time after.
Say your password is tesco next time make it ocset - perhaps you could write you password on your credit card - whrn you have it out to donate to the best website.

No idea that was like 2000 posts ago and over a year.
it was either using a nicked bus pass or a milage problem caused by a set of jumpleads

Most people have dynamic IP addresses though nowadays, so it changes each time you post etc.
Good for somethings, but a pain in the ass for others.

OFF TOPIC:-
So how come i never got back onto the "Meat-City Car Club" website after being banned - using a fictious email and user name - not that will ever need to go anywhere else
OFF TOPIC FURTHER:-
Can't find it - but was a thread called 'mistake' or something - user was 'banned' from DK at work - worked at home - lost the thread no idea what Admin's reply was.

racecar now 3 months time reverse as suggested so it reads like this
RACECAR
DAMM - ask member Kalpol - he hates europe - rumor has it - and can keep it - that all password login things MUST be able to notice the difference between uppercase and lowercase
Here play with this:- Password Strength Checker (http://www.passwordmeter.com/)
